Haiti relief
« on: January 16, 2010, 08:00:46 AM »
Just reading the new and came across something I thought was messed up. The NBA and its players' association gave 1 million dollars to help Haiti. Sandra Bullack gave 1 Million dollars of her own money to help Haiti. Think about that. One person gave the same amount as an entire organization did. Thank you NBA for sending money to get your name in the news and not for actual support. :banghead:

That's highly generous of her, but a pessimistic could view that as an advertisement for herself, seeing as she has a new movie out. But fuck em, at least she didn't pull a Sharon Stone and pinned the earthquake down to 'karma'.

I know I'm preaching to the wrong crowd here and I don't even have to mention the idea to all of you as I'd say it's been done by a few here already, but please try and donate to the cause if you can:

If you are going to send money, please make sure you know where its going. There are already people lining up to try to rip you off.

I think Gisele Bundchen has given the most so far (as a celebrity individual)? $1.5 million

^ I dunno about that...but the aftermath is mindblowing.

When I saw Wyclef and Busta Rhymes tweeting and retweeting, you just gotta get involved. NFL Players Pierre Garcon and Jonathan Vilma have family there, wore the flag during the presser.

But fuck em, at least she didn't pull a Sharon Stone and pinned the earthquake down to 'karma'.

And yet, a natural disaster which has killed thousands still hasn't stopped some people from using it to spout total bullshit.

Rush Limbaugh: 'Obama will use Haiti to boost credibility with "light-skinned and dark-skinned community in this country'"

I'm not an incredibly religious person, but sometimes I wish there was a Heaven, because I know Pat Robertson wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Maybe we're being too harsh on Robertson, seems like he actually made a bit of a faux-pas:

Quote
Just hours after saying that God was punishing Haiti for making a "pact with the Devil," televangelist Pat Robertson retracted the statement, telling TV viewers, "Haiti?  I thought they said ‘Hades.'"

Source

Ya know, Hades? That famously ex-French colony of Hades, and not (of course) the Underworld of Greek, pre-Christian myth?

I think this letter by Satan himself (written by a US citizen to the The Minneapolis Star-Tribune) is pretty funny:

Quote
Dear Pat Robertson,

I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action.

But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished.

Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"?

If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll.

You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract.

Best, Satan

Sweet but... autotune in We are the World? Really?... >_>

I hope that all the artists in it sincerely care and donated a good amount to the cause.
