Young aims to regain starting job

ESPN.com news services

Vince Young's agent says the Tennessee Titans quarterback, who lost his starting job to veteran Kerry Collins early in the 2008 season, intends to stay in Nashville and win his job back, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

Young's agent, Major Adams, told the newspaper that the re-signing of Collins to a two-year, $14 million deal has only fueled Young's desire to prove himself on the field once more.

"That decision has no bearing on Vince's thinking,'' Adams said Wednesday, according to the report. "He is just trying to get himself together, not worrying about what they are doing with Kerry. That doesn't matter to him.

"Vince is not upset. He is not asking for a trade or anything. He loves the organization, loves [Titans owner] Bud Adams, and he wants to be in Tennessee," Adams said, according to the report. "But he still wants to play, and is approaching this offseason like he's going to.''

Young started the Titans' first game of the season, but was booed by the home fans and injured his knee. He played in two more games the rest of the season as Collins took over as starter and the Titans went 13-3 and won the AFC South.

But Young, who won the BCS championship at Texas and led the Titans to the playoffs in his first full year as a starter, is hungry to get back on the field, Adams said, according to The Tennessean.

"Vince wants to be the starter. He has started all his life, so he wants to start,'' Adams said, according to the report. "And he is preparing like he is going to start, doing all the things he needs to do.

"He looks hungrier to me than ever before. I don't know that he is doing more than he's ever done, but this is as early as he's ever started.''

^ pretty much sooner, L-San

NFL.com just announced on their site(as well as NFL Network) that T.O. just signed a 1-year deal with the Bills.

Start your heckling here..think there's a better team for him besides them. Course, I don't blame other teams for not taking him

Longtime Eagles LT Thomas joins the Jags

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Former Eagles Pro Bowl left tackle Tra Thomas has agreed to a three-year deal with the Jaguars, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. Thomas went to four Pro Bowls with the Eagles and was a staple on the left side since the club took him in the first round of the '98 draft.

He wanted to stay in Philly, but the team didn't show a strong interest in re-signing him. The Eagles have shown once again that sentimentality doesn't mean much to them in terms of signing players. They didn't put up much of a fight (if any) to keep local hero Brian Dawkins and they weren't interested in paying an aging player to play left tackle.

So where does this leave Philly? Well, Andy Reid loves to talk about how he can turn guards into tackles. There's a chance the Eagles could move Shawn Andrews to left tackle and play his brother Stacy at right tackle, where Jon Runyan has played for years. I think that move could backfire. Shawn is trying to return after dealing with clinical depression and then a back injury last season. Is this really the best time to put him at the most important spot on the offensive line?

The Eagles have the Nos. 21 and 28 picks in next month's draft. You have to think they'll be thinking offensive line on at least one of those choices. But no matter what happens, the Jags ended up with a quality player. The only problem I could foresee is Thomas' adjustment to a more run-based offense. He's been used to playing in an offense that passes the ball about 65 percent of the time. At this point in his career, he's not an elite run blocker. And the Jags love to run the ball.

Rebuilding Rams release WR Holt

By John Clayton
ESPN.com

After they failed to gain trade value, the Rams announced Friday they have released wide receiver Torry Holt.

Holt had a $1.25 million roster bonus due March 17, and the Rams didn't plan to keep him at his $8 million salary. As they did earlier this week with left tackle Orlando Pace, the Rams parted ways with Holt.

"The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the field and in the community," Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom said. "He is an All Pro in every sense of the word. Over the past 10 seasons, Torry has proven himself to be one of the finest wide receivers in league history. This is a difficult decision because Torry has meant so much to the organization. In my mind and for all Rams fans, Torry will always be a Ram and we wish him and his family nothing but the best as they move forward."

The releases of Holt and Pace cleared out $14 million of cap room for the Rams. Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, ranks 11th on the league's all-time reception list with 869 catches. He started 147 games in 10 seasons.

Tough off season. Much condolences to the families of the NFL players lost at sea: Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper

What also sucks, is that the Eagles began rebuilding. C'mon Tra Thomas, Lito Sheppard. Who they pick up?? Please get some fucking wide outs. Marvin Harrison for gun-in-a-bucket discount price!! Boldin if Kurt Warner doesn't give up enough money!

I'm a miss this frog splash, the intensity, the blood and guts. NFL is a business. Good bye John Runyan too.

I can't get over Dawk in Orange and Blue. :banghead: :banghead:

It'd be hilarious to see what T.O. does with Trent Edwards, I predict he won't last half a season.

Chargers HAD to reup LT. They be stupid to let Sproles handle the rock fulltime!

Jay Cutler has just been traded to the Bears per NFL.com. They gave up two firsts, a 3rd, and Kyle Orton for a 5th round pick and Cutler. Seems a bit steep but if they sign a stop-gap like Marvin Harrison or Torry Holt, they may just have a good offense. Article:

New home Chicago: Broncos ship disgruntled QB Cutler to Bears

NFL.com Wire Reports

The Denver Broncos announced Thursday that they have agreed to trade disgruntled quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears.

NFL.com's Steve Wyche reports that the Broncos will receive first-round draft picks this year and in 2010, a third-round pick (84th overall) this year and quarterback Kyle Orton in exchange for Cutler and a 2009 fifth-round selection.

The Broncos were trading Cutler on his terms, and there was no shortage of teams lining up to take a crack at acquiring the 25-year-old Pro Bowl passer.

Cutler had asked for a trade last month after his relationship with new coach Josh McDaniels soured. Their relationship began to disintegrate when McDaniels broached a potential trade of Cutler for Matt Cassel earlier this offseason.

McDaniels and Cutler likely will see each other again on Aug. 30, when the Broncos host the Bears in a preseason game.

Great draft. I like how the Eagles picked up Hobbs from the Pats. Tighten up that secondary with proven players. And not gambling on overpriced free agents. DO IT MCNABB!

An air-supported roof over the Dallas Cowboys' practice field collapsed during a heavy thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, leaving 12 people injured, authorities said.

About 70 people, including more than two dozen of the team's rookies, were in the facility when it was blown down shortly before 3:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. ET), team officials said.

Two or three suffered serious injuries, but none were believed to be in life-threatening condition Saturday night, said Dr. Paul Pepe, Dallas County's emergency medical services chief.

CNN affiliate WFAA reported Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, the son-in-law of former NFL head coach Dan Reeves, suffered a broken back. DeCamillis was seen on a stretcher wearing a neck brace.

A line of heavy thunderstorms was moving through the Dallas area at the time, he said, but no other damage to buildings was reported, said Mike Adams, a dispatcher for the Irving, Texas, fire department.

Arnold Payne, a photographer for WFAA, was shooting the Cowboys' practice session when rain began falling "tremendously hard."

"I noticed the walls started to waver ... and then I noticed that the lights that were hanging from the ceiling started to sway, and it wouldn't stop," Payne told CNN. Shortly after that, he said, "It was as if someone took a stick pin and hit a balloon."

Payne said Cowboys staff photographers were up in the metal framework beneath the canopy to film the practice session and "actually rode the building down with the storm." At least one was in surgery Saturday night, he said.

"There was nowhere for them to go, and it fell so fast -- it just collapsed as if it was being imploded," Payne said.

Video from CNN affiliate WFAA showed the roof caving in during a heavy storm, sending players, coaches and a handful of reporters and photographers scrambling to escape. Watch the roof collapse on players, coaches »

Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones told NBC that about 27 rookies from the NFL team and members of the team's coaching staff were inside the suburban Dallas facility at the time.

"They did not get good warning there, and the structure did collapse," Jones said, speaking from the Kentucky Derby in Louisville. "We're assessing who's injured at this particular time."
