Chapter 48 “Everybody did their homework today, right?”
“Hai!”
“Okay, then!” Takahashi-sensei smiled, happily clapping her hands together. “Then will our iinchou please collect them from everyone?”
“Hai!” Risa answered, starting to get up from her seat.
It was another day at Haro Kotogakko in Takahashi-sensei’s history class. All the students bustled around and dug through their notebooks and folders, trying to find the packet that had been given to them as homework the day before. Eri rummaged through all her folders and sighed as she leaned back into the chair.
“I think I forgot it at home…” Eri mumbled, looking up at her bean friend with a puppy-dog face.
“Don’t look at me, I can’t do anything about it,” Risa whispered back, rolling her eyes. “Just hand it in tomorrow.”
“But Takahashi-sensei doesn’t accept late homeworks! She puts it down as an F right away!” Eri whined. “Can’t you put in a good word for me, at least?”
“What makes you think she’ll listen to me?”
“Well, other than the fact that you’re her star student,” Eri grinned, “you’re also her beloved girlfriend now, aren’t you?”
Risa rolled her eyes as she turned away from her friend to start walking around the classroom. As her fellow classmates handed her the homework as she passed by each desk, the bean looked up at her teacher in the front of the room, flipping through the pages of her gradebok. Although what Eri had said was true, Risa still found it hard to believe that they were actually going out now. And that her new lover had already met her mother… She shuddered, just thinking back to how she was embarassed by Mama Gaki.
The turtle had been even more ecstatic when she had found out over the phone conversation of that night when Takahashi-sensei had kissed the bean. Eri had screamed loud enough and was shocked enough to accidently drop her phone, hang up, and call back. She had expressed her happiness and joy for her friend who had finally gotten her first girlfriend was able to succeed in what seemed like an impossible love.
As Risa passed by her turtle friend again, Eri clapped her hands together in a begging position and pouted. The iinchou groaned silently and passed by. When she had finished collecting the rest of the homework, the bean headed towards the front of the room, where Ai was waiting for her.
“Thank you, Gaki-san,” Ai smiled, taking the pile of homework from her student.
“You’re welcome…”
As the teacher took the papers, she purposely touched the younger girl’s hand and peeled the fingers open. Then, she discreetly pushed a folded note into her palm. The bean looked up with a surprised face. The teacher grinned even bigger as she gave a wink.
Pretending like nothing had happened, the bean turned away from the board with a straight face, fisting the piece of paper in her hand. She sat down in her chair and looked straight forward, all the while ignoring her turtle friend who was attempting to gain her pity by acting as though she was melting off her desk by slumping her body this way and that with a miserable expression plastered on her face. After taking a couple seconds to calm her breathing, Risa looked down and opened the small note in her hand.
“Meet me on the roof for lunch today”, the bean read to herself.
“The weather is nice enough, and maybe we can get more privacy than in the courtyard”…
Risa looked up at her teacher who was counting the number of packets she had in her hand. After she flipped through all of them, she looked up at the turtle who was conveniently avoiding eye contact by staring into empty space by the ceiling. Ai smiled a little as she shook her head. Then, she noticed her girlfriend staring at her from the next desk and gave another wink, causing the bean to blush.
** ** **
“Sensei?” Risa called cautiously, opening the door that led to the rooftop. “Are you here yet?”
The bean looked around a little, the lunch box clutched to her chest, before completely walking outside. The floor was like green rubber with the edges outlined with a fence so no one falls accidently. There was nothing else on the roof except a tall electric pole for whatever it was used for. There was no sign of another person anywhere.
“Sensei?” Risa called again, starting to fear that maybe she had come too early. “Is anybody—”
“GOTCHA!”
“WAH!”
Risa jumped up in shock as she felt a pair of arms constrict her waist tightly. She felt a playful kiss upon her cheeks and a soft laughter in her ears. A familiar scent and warmth was in the atmosphere now, and the bean started to relax.
“Mou, Sensei, you scared me!” the student complained, releasing herself from the binding arms and turning around.
“Gomen, gomen,” Ai laughed, holding her girlfriend’s face in her hands and planting another kiss on her forehead. “I just wanted to surprise you a little. Nice reaction, though, very entertaining.”
“Mou, Sensei~!” Risa complained, pouting a little. But the blushes in her cheeks could not betray her true emotions as her teacher’s playful jokes and kisses made her happier than ever.
“Come on,” the teacher urged, trying to hold her laughter in without much success. “Let’s sit down.”
The couple walked over to one side of the fence and sat down as Risa placed the bento in front of her. She opened the lunch box and revealed the feast that she had cooked up that morning. Ai gasped softly as she marveled at the various kinds of food in each section of the bento.
“You’ve really outdone yourself, Gaki-san,” the older woman said, amazed. “You don’t have to make so much you know. I don’t think we can even finish all this! Rice, chicken, salad, fish… is this kimchi?”
“It’s okay if you leave some,” the bean shrugged. “I guess… I just felt too happy this morning. I needed to keep on doing something… I actually packed Mama’s lunch today too, because I made too much. She usually buys her food.”
“Why were you so happy?”
“You know…” Risa mumbled, avoiding eye contact. “Just… thinking about you… and stuff… yeah.”
“… Kawaii,” Ai smiled, causing Risa to look up at her. “You’re really cute, Gaki-san. And all of that is mine now.” The teacher took ahold of her lover’s hand and tangled her fingers together with Risa’s. The bean slowly smiled.
“I’m glad you said that,” the younger girl said, sighing contently. “Everything still seems pretty unreal…”
“You think I’m beliving my situation right now?” Ai said, raising an eyebrow. “But that’s the beauty. It’s too good to be true but you know it is… reality is so much better than dreams.”
“Only when it comes true,” Risa added.
“Yes, especially when it comes true,” Ai grinned.
After the pleasant conversation, the two lovebirds decided to finally start eating their lunch. The more they ate, the more they realized it really was going to be impossible to finish the large bento. At some point, Ai decided to take Mama Gaki’s advice and baby her girlfriend a little. So she accidently knocked her elbow into the bean’s hand, forcing her to drop her chopsticks.
“Gomen, Gaki-san!” Ai apologized, keeping up a pretty convincing act. “That was careless of me… Do you have another pair of chopsticks?”
“No, I only brought two…” Risa answered, picking up her fallen chopsticks and putting it back in the utensil case. “Dou shiyou…”
“Well, then… here!”
The teacher picked up a piece of meat from the bento and held it up to her girlfriend’s lips. Risa’s eyes widened as pursed her lips tightly.
“Yada!” she said, shaking her head in disagreement. “I’ll just go down to the cafeteria and take a fork or something.”
“It’s such a hassle, just eat what I feed you,” the teacher grinned.
“No, it’s embarrassing…” Risa mumbled, frowning. “Stop that, Sensei.”
“Come on, just eat.”
“Yada!”
“If you don’t eat from the chopsticks, I’m going to make you eat from my mouth,” Ai threatened, smirking.
Risa’s eyes popped open even wider as she quickly calculated the odds of her lover actually doing what she threatened to do. The answer? Yes. Yes, she would. So the bean quickly grabbed the older woman’s wrist and brought it closer until she could eat the beef from the chopsticks. Ai laughed as she watched her girlfriend chew slowly and swallow, satisfied by her plan.
“There, happy?” Risa said, puffing up her cheeks a little, unintentionally looking cute.
“Kawaii,” Takahashi-sensei chuckled. “You look really cute right now, Gaki-san.”
“Am not,” the bean mumbled.
“Yes, you are,” the teacher argued. “This seems a lot more natural than your iinchou-image. I like seeing you like this.”
“I’m still me, there’s nothing different!” Risa snapped back, starting to blush.
“Kawaii~” Ai laughed. Without warning, she suddenly brought her hands up to take a hold of her girlfriend’s face. She leaned in closer until she could kiss the bean’s cheek and backed away again.
“W-what was that for?” Risa asked, her face turning bright red.
“Why? Am I not allowed?” Ai smiled, knowing the answer already.
“I-it’s not that you’re not…” the student mumbled quickly, looking away. “Um, I’m going to put away the bento now.”
“Yeah, we can’t finish it,” the teacher agreed, laughing to herself at her girlfriend trying to avoid delving further into the subject.
The two lovebirds cleaned up their lunch area together and put all the utensils away. Risa closed the bento box and set it aside before stretching her legs out straight. Her lover mimicked her action.
“We still have a little time left,” Ai said. “What should we do?”
“Well… we can just talk?” Risa offered, looking at her teacher next to her. “There are a couple things I’ve been meaning to ask you… you know, to get to know you better?”
“How about we take turns asking questions, then?” Takahashi-sensei suggested. “I’d like to know you better, too.”
The younger girl’s cheeks turned pink once more, as she smiled that beautiful smile of hers. “Can I go first?”
“By all means.”
“Okay, then… Who was your first kiss?”
“Maji de?!” Ai moaned, rolling her eyes. “Is this the direction we’re taking this thing?”
“I said I wanted to know you better,” Risa said calmly. “That involves your history.”
“Can’t we stick to the future rather than the past?” Ai asked.
“The problem is, Sensei, the future didn’t happen yet,” Risa grinned, winking at her teacher. She had definitely turned the tables around. “Come on, be honest with me. I thought we were over all the barriers now.”
“We are…” Ai muttered, glaring at the ground for a while. After a couple moments, she sighed and looked at her girlfriend again. “Okay, I’ll tell you if it’ll make you happy.”
“I’m all ears.”
“… It was back in middle school,” the teacher started in a low voice. “He was the first person I ever went out with, a senpai from high school.”
“Wait… ‘He’?”
“Yes… is there something wrong?”
“Nothing. I just thought that… you would’ve only had girlfriends…” the bean said hesitantly.
“I don’t let barriers like gender get in the way of true feelings, Gaki-san,” Ai smiled. “I fall in love with who I love. It doesn’t matter if that person is a boy or a girl.”
Perfect lesson for that Reina girl, Risa thought.
Good thing she learned it. “So, back to the story…” Ai sighed. “He was three, maybe four years my senior? He was pretty old, older compared to me, anyway. And he initiated a kiss on the third day we started going out and I just accepted it.”
“Is this during your… uh… yankii days?” Risa asked carefully.
“Yes, it was during the time in which I wasn’t thinking clearly,” Ai chuckled softly. “He was the first person that seemed to understand my feelings, you know? He was actually the one that brought me further into the delinquent world… I joined his gang too.”
“Um… did you two… you know…” Risa mumbled, feeling a little embarassed. “um… go further…?”
“Hell, no!” Ai yelled, her Fukui dialect slipping out a little, startling the bean in the process. “He became a real jerk later on… Actually, he was always a jerk but I just never saw it. I dumped him after a couple months.”
“What happened after that?” Risa asked, her eyes widening with curiosity.
“He got mad and tried to get his gang to attack me,” the teacher shrugged, looking up at the sky as she tried to recall all the memories. “But nobody did, in the end. You see, I had already proven my worth in the group and had unknowingly grown to have more influence on the members than my so-called boyfriend and leader. So they kicked him out and kept me.”
“Wow…” Risa breathed. “That’s actually… that’s actually pretty cool.”
“It felt good back then,” Ai chuckled. “But now, I feel like none of it was real. In the end, we were all just trying to rebel against ourselves. Everybody felt hopeless about life back then.”
“So… you didn’t go further than kissing with that guy?” Risa asked, referring to her original question.
“Nope.”
“So… you’re still… you know…”
“Hm?”
“You haven’t… uh… done that… yet…. Right?”
“… Now I didn’t say that.”
Risa’s head shot up to stare at her older lover who looked back at her with guilt in her eyes. Hundreds of questions ran through the bean’s head: Who? When? Where? Why? How? Wait,
how? No, that was a stupid question. She didn’t need to know
how… definitely not.
“You… you’re not…” Risa mumbled.
“Well, I’m 23 years old right now, Gaki-san,” the teacher tried to explain. “If I was still completely clean until this age… I mean, wouldn’t that be even odder?”
“I-I suppose…” As Risa tried to organize her thoughts, an awkward silence filled the air. Ai bit down on her bottom lip before breaking the silence.
“… She wasn’t that good, you know.”
“That’s not the point now, is it?” Risa yelled, making Ai feel even more regretful. “It’s just… I mean, I’ve never… you know.”
“I’m really sorry, Gaki-san, I really am…” Ai apologized, truly feeling bad about the situation.
“No, it’s not your fault,” Risa sighed. “I mean, I hate to admit it… but I’m actually really jealous right now… I just… I feel so behind…”
“I’m really sorr—wait, ‘behind’?” Ai asked, confused. “What do you mean by that?”
“You know what I mean!” Risa groaned. “Like you said, you’re 23. I’m only 17. And I’m still really unexperienced in these kinds of things… I wouldn’t know what to do when we… you know…”
“Chotto, chotto,” the teacher said, shaking her head as she narrowed her eyes. “So let me get this straight. You’re not upset because I’m not a… virgin… but because you think you might hold me back or something? Is that it?”
“Well… yeah…”
“You know, for a pretty smart girl, you’re being very stupid,” Ai scoffed, glaring at the bean. “It’s perfectly fine for a girl your age to not know anything about
that; it’s normal. Don’t speed up your maturation for me, Gaki-san. You’re already mentally old enough.”
“But you still see me as a kid, don’t you?” Risa argued back. “I don’t want to be the one who doesn’t know anything; I want to be fully aware of what’s going to happen when we… you know.”
“No offense, Gaki-san, but nobody can really see you as a kid,” Ai rolled her eyes. “Like I said, you’re mentally old enough. Besides, I don’t plan to have sex with you anyway, so we don’t even need to have this conversation.”
“You’re NOT?” Risa shrilled, getting on her knees now. “Why?”
“Because you’re still 17!” Ai sighed. “You’re not old enough to make sound decisions.”
“That’s a direct contradiction of what you just said a couple seconds ago,” the bean growled, glaring.
“You being mentally old enough is just an opinion,” Ai smirked. “But the fact that 17 isn’t an old enough age to make sound decisions is based on research. You see, the human brain isn’t fully developed until—”
“I know when the human brain develops!” Risa snapped, cutting her teacher off. “But… I thought we went through this! You said that you won’t let me go and I can’t turn back anymore, that I was making an adult decision when I chose you. And I told you I was ready. Didn’t we establish all this?”
“Yes, we did,” the teacher nodded. “And I won’t let you go.”
“Then what’s this talk about you not wanting to sleep with me?” Risa snapped.
“Is sex that important to you, Gaki-san?” Ai asked nonchalantly, meaning to tease her girlfriend a little to lighten up the mood.
“J-just answer my question!” Risa persisted on, blushing a little.
“Well,” the teacher sighed, hiding a small smile, “I said that I don’t plan to have sex with you…
now. I want to wait until you’re absolutely sure you want me.”
“I
am absolutely sure!”
“Nope. Your brain isn’t fully developed.”
“… Fine, I’ll go by your book,” Risa grumbled, finding her teacher’s excuse ridiculous. “Then when do you think my brain will be fully developed to make sound decisions?”
“Oh… I don’t know… maybe after graduation?”
“GRADUATION?” the bean scoffed, her eyes widening. “That’s a year and a semester away!”
“That’s enough time for your brain to mature, I think,” Ai grinned.
“Ugh!” Risa groaned, falling back to lean on the fence again, giving up. “I can’t believe you, Sensei. Do you even want me at all?”
“… I’d be lying if I said I didn’t.”
Risa slowly turned to look up at her lover again. Ai was gazing back at her with smoldering eyes. All the jokes and light-heartedness was gone from her expression, as she leaned in closer to meet the younger girl’s lips. The two kissed for a while, moving their lips against each other’s. Ai started to lick the edges of her girlfriend’s lips, begging for entrance. When admittance was granted, she immediately started to swirl her tongue around inside Risa’s mouth, getting the full taste of her. Risa could feel her teacher’s hand sliding up from her calves to her knees to the tips of her skirt. She played with the fabric for a whiel as they kissed, causing the bean to shudder whenever Ai’s fingers would just slightly touch the skin. When they broke apart, Risa’s face was bright red from the interaction while the teacher’s eyes were still half-closed, as though she was in a dream.
“I’m taking it slow because I treasure you, Niigaki Risa,” Ai whispered, letting her forehead touch with the bean’s. “I really want this to come naturally, not because of a sudden fling or something. And I’m definitely not in a rush because I plan to keep a long relationship with you. Can you understand my feelings?”
“… Un…” Risa agreed, nodding a little. She could feel her heart beating faster from her girlfriend’s sincere words.
“I’m glad,” Ai smiled. She then dropped her head onto the student’s shoulder and closed her eyes. “Can we stay like this for a little while? Just until the bell rings?”
“Okay,” Risa murmured, looking down at her teacher’s beautiful face. She seemed pretty satisfied, now that the bean accepted her point of view.
Sensei is right; it’s better for this kind of thing to come naturally, Risa though to herself with a small smile.
But there’s always a way to make it come naturally… faster… right? A year and a semester is too long…~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope that was kind of interesting to read... I guess the main thing for TakaGaki now is the whole secretive/age-gap relationship

Next is a jumbo chapter. Meaning it's not focused on one couple. But it's essential, you'll see
