It's a short chapter but it's still an update!
It seems like I've raised a lot of questions recently... they'll all be answered in due time of course, but you'll have to wait for it~

Chapter 60 Sayumi stared into blank space as she sighed tiredly. She leaned her chin on top of her hands as she swung her legs back and forth beneath the desk. The class was filled with noises and chatter as the students were talking within their usual cliques. And as usual, the bunny was left alone… completely. This meant nobody was trying to make a conversation with her, but it also meant no bullying. Sayum had come to school that morning to find her shoes without thumbtacks, her desk without graffiti, and her chair without any gum. She assumed that the previous encounter she had with the girl that was bullying her the most gave the other students somewhat of a different view on her. Sayumi didn’t seem too much of a stuck-up rich girl anymore. At least, the bunny had hoped.
Although this was a happy occasion that should be celebrated, Sayumi didn’t care for it so much, as a bigger problem was settled in her head. No matter how much she tried, she could not get that day when she invited her friends over to her home out of her head. And the way her sweet lover had smiled at her… Just thinking about it made Sayumi shiver. What had exactly happened? What had she done wrong? Wasn’t it originally Junjun who always wanted to take one step further, one step further, until there were essentially no steps left at all? And when Sayumi was ready to climb those stairs, the panda had run away. What did this mean? Was Sayumi not good enough?
As she groaned in frustration, the bunny felt a pair of hands cover her eyes. She gasped and tried to shake away darkness but the hands wouldn’t budge.
“Guess who!” a high-pitch voice giggled. Oh yes, that voice definitely gave it away. There was only one person Sayumi knew who could get their voice to that frequency.
“… Kusumi-san…?” Sayumi mumbled.
“Bingo!” the voice laughed. The hands removed themselves, allowing Sayumi’s eyes to readjust to the fluorescent lighting and a big smiling face in front of her.
“Ohayou, Michishige-san!” Koharu greeted brightly. “Genki?”
“Ah… un…” Sayumi mumbled, nodding.
“Uso da,” the tall girl accused, pouting. “Something’s troubling you, right? You can talk to me, if you want.”
“No, I’m fine, really,” the bunny smiled with much effort. Koharu was definitely nice, as she had willingly eaten lunch with the bunny before despite the rest of the class staring at her. But Sayumi couldn’t help but feel a little bit overwhelmed by the girl’s energy sometimes. “Thanks for asking, though.”
“… Mou, ii,” Koharu said finally, pouting a little. “But I’m always here if you need me, okay?”
“Ah… okay…” Sayumi nodded. Yes, this girl was indeed very pure. She was set on doing things her own way, but she was caring, in a way. But… why was she even talking to the so-called stuck-up rich girl right now? “Ano… Kusumi-san?”
“Hm?”
“Why are you talking to me?”
“EH?! You don’t like talking with me?” The girl honestly looked terrified of the fact that someone wouldn’t want to chat with her.
“No, no, that’s not what I mean,” Sayumi said quickly. “I mean… you don’t have to pretend to be friends with me because you pity me. I’m fine being alone; you don’t have to force yourself.”
“… What are you saying, Michishige-san?!” Koharu yelled, looking determined. “I’m not pretending here; we
are friends. I thought that was silently established when we ate lunch together the other day.”
“But that was—”
“No ‘but’s!” Koharu interrupted, putting her hands on her hips. “I already decided to be friends with you, so you don’t have a choice. So accept it.”
“But… what if you get bullied with me?” Sayumi asked, worriedly. “I don’t want that.”
“… You really are actually a kind person, aren’t you, Michishige-san?” Koharu asked, grinning. “Nobody would’ve thought that the ice princess would care about such a thing. But don’t worry; nobody can bully me.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s no fun,” Koharu winked. “I don’t really get upset by those kinds of things. If the prey isn’t affected by the attacks, it’s no fun for the hunter. So nobody really bothers with me that much. I’m just Koharu. That’s it.”
Sayumi stared at the smiling girl sitting in front of her. She never noticed before, but now, Koharu seemed to be irradiating light from every direction. The way she just claimed that she didn’t care about what other people thought of her, that she was just being herself, triggered some feelings of admiration from the bunny. Koharu was free; she was free from guilt, worry, judgement, distress, and pain. And Sayumi… she knew she was being severly affected by all those things.
“… We’re really friends?” Sayumi asked quietly, feeling her heart beat faster.
“Yeah, just friends,” Koharu grinned playfully. “If you want to be best friends, you have to start brightening up more. Koharu doesn’t do emo.”
“And if you want more challenges, we’re right here too.”
Sayumi whipped her head around to see two more of her classmates standing behind her, smiling. She recognized them immediately as the two friends who were with Koharu before.
“Kikkawa-san… and Kitahara-san?” Sayumi mumbled, blinking in surprise.
“Yup,” the girl with shorter hair grinned. “Well, I was going to say that if you’re so keen on making friends easily, I can be a challenge for you. Kikka and I aren't friends with you yet. Why don’t you make one out of me?”
“What Saya is trying to say,” Yuu smiled, “is that we want to get to know you better too. How about it?”
“There, you see?” Koharu giggled, causing the bunny to look back at her again. “I’m not the only one crazy enough to be friends with you.” Then, the girl took out something from her uniform pocket and held it by the string. It was a pink cell phone accessory, with a cute pink stuffed-bunny at the end. “So what do you say? Friends?”
“T-this… is for… me?” Sayumi gasped, starting to blush with joy.
“Well, you asked for it, right?” Koharu laughed. “Oh, but you still have to pay. Kikka manages the money—”
“Kawaii!” Sayumi exclaimed, taking the cell phone strap and examining it in her hands. “Meccha kawaii, chou kawaii! Arigatou, Kusumi-san! And Kikkawa-san, and Kitahara-san, arigatou!”
“You sure get happy about such a small thing,” Sayaka laughed. “Next time, we’ll show you how to make it, if you want.”
“Will you, really?” Sayumi asked with a smile, her eyes brightening.
“Only if you stay friends with us,” Yuu grinned.
“Because this kind of craft secret is between friends only,” Koharu laughed.
“Done!” Sayumi exclaimed, practically bouncing off her chair. “Friends…”
“And when you’re friends, you get rid of all formalities,” Koharu lectured. “So call me Koharu.”
“You can call me Kikka,” Yuu said.
“Eh. Call me whatever you want,” Sayaka grinned, shrugging.
“Jaa… Koharu-chan… Kikka… Saya-chan…?”
“Kanpeki!” Koharu exclaimed. “That’s perfect! And we’re going to call you… Sayumi-chan! Is that okay?”
“Un!”
“And you know something else?” Koharu continued. “Friends tell each other secrets and problems that they have. So…”
“Tell me Junjun’s secret in studying!” Yuu said suddenly, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “How does she get top grades in the school every single time? I don’t get it!”
“Of course, you would ask that,” Sayaka groaned, rolling her eyes. “Don’t you ever think about anything else besides studying?”
“It’s okay, she can ask,” Sayumi smiled. “But honestly… I don’t know either. I’ve actually never seen her study before so…”
“Eh~? So she really is just a natural genius, like they say,” Yuu moaned. “I’ll never be the top in this school! Mou~”
“Don’t misunderstand, Sayumi-chan,” Koharu grinned. “Yuu actually respects Junjun a lot too. Everybody does, you know?”
“Yeah…” Sayumi mumbled, as the memories of two days ago returned to her head. Sayaka cocked her head to the side, realizing something was off.
“Sayumi… is there something bothering you?” she asked.
“I asked her before too!” Koharu said. “Really, Sayumi-chan, if there’s something troubling you, you should let it out.”
“You can trust us,” Yuu smiled warmly.
“… Well…” Sayumi mumbled. She looked around at the three concerned faces around her, leaning closer as to keep the story between themselves. The bunny could tell that they really cared, and that they were trustworthy. But… how could she say outright that the problem was that she was rejected by Junjun in bed? “The thing is…”
“Yes?”
“… I think Junjun is getting sick of me,” Sayumi whispered softly, as though saying it louder would make it truer.
“Why would you think that?” Koharu asked.
“Well… the other day… she just seemed… distant. Usually, she’s the one who makes a move first but when I actually complied… she just… stepped away. And… I don’t know what I did wrong.” A vague version of the story was enough, right?
“You probably didn’t do anything wrong, Sayumi-chan,” Yuu said calmly. “Maybe she just had a tough day.”
“Yeah, Sayu, maybe she just wasn’t feeling well,” Sayaka agreed.
“No, it wasn’t like that,” the bunny sighed. “She’s just been very different lately, and I don’t know what to do. Am I supposed to give her space? Or get closer so… we don’t drift further apart…”
“You’re not going to drift further apart,” Koharu said firmly. “You know what I think? I think you should be honest. Tell her what you want and how you feel. I can tell you’re really not this kind of type, but maybe it would be nice for you to initiate something first, you know?”
Initiate first? Sayumi had never thought of that. It had always been Junjun who did something first before the bunny had even thought of making a move. It was her job to comply, not to commence. But… maybe this kind of change may help…
“I understand,” Sayumi said determinedly, nodding. “Thanks, everyone. I’m going to try being more straightforward with Junjun now…”
“That’s the attitude!” Sayaka grinned.
“Let us know how it goes, okay?” Yuu smiled.
“I will,” Sayumi answered.
