I favor wooden chopsticks over plastic, etc. ones used in restaurants because they're more hygienic.
you just throw them away afterwards, instead of washing them for the next person.

In China, laws are made to be broken anyways.  That's why they now execute ppl who steal wallets.  The ultimate efficient way to fix a problem in China.........but then..... in China, some ppl would use their own life to make more money for their family or their love one....... Doh!!!

daigong isn't much of a delicant either. i never got splitters, but after washing them about 4x, they disappeared in the dishwasher. I'd get pissed if i got splinters in my mouth while eating!!! O_O

tax on wooden chopsticks? I would cry if I lived in china.

um.. I always break mine neatly from years of precise oriental practice!! plus you can always rub them against each other to get rid of the splintery parts...

haha rub against each other... aw I'm so immature.

Whenever I go to a noodle shop I always ask for a fork, regardless if it's pho or udon. I hope disposible forks don't get taxed.

Some people think asians know how to use chopsticks. When I try them I end up with stains on my shirt or my friends.

Would a 5cent tax really deter you from buying them?  Or is the idea that the tax money would go towards nature preserves?

It's a 5 PERCENT tax, not a 5 cent tax (unless chopsticks cost a buck, THEN you can say it's a 5 cent tax :P).
