ShibuyaDokiDoki: A new beginning? Me want! >w<
kahem: Glad to see that someone actually caught the ref. xD
haruhi16: Why are you so happy that Yuki got forced into working!? D: You sadist you!!
aruka: It's unexpectedly filled with unexpected things now, ain't it? xD But yeah, gotta stick with classics sometimes, yo! We can't always go with futuristic items
seigus: You what?! YOU WERE ABLE TO WATCH SCANDAL... LIVE?! OM.. I HATE YOU! ;A; Actually, I love you for liking SCANDAL too but... But you made me jealous dagnammit! DX why must I be poor, why?!
Yeah, I did add Center for more drama, I think lol. xD I wonder if this fic has too much characters...? If not, then I'd probably throw more characters in!
oddball: Well we all know how Yuko is. She ALWAYS have something up in her sleeve... But I wonder what that is? Hmm... xD I just hope that Yuki's new crazy fan named Sasshi won't 'love' her enough to kill her.
arisa03: Here's your update, Boss. T_T Like I said earlier, I'm sorry if this sucks... Feel free to whip me because of it while using a Meetan voice... Oh God- *nosebleed*
BlackRockAnon: You really are black! D: But hey, that's a great idea! xD Let's see if I can apply that in the fic. Though I actually suck at writing, least I'm doing my best, right? T_T Sorry if it won't meet your expectations though.
Everyone, I'm sorry for the long delay. D: And I'm sorry if this one is kind of dull..
Well that's enough blah-blahs, let's start! (I was pressured into updating like a boss by a boss! D:)
Chapter 5Tapping her foot in a repetitive rhythm, Yuki made a quick glance at her wristwatch. She sighed not long after, with her head dropping down a little in process.
Today was her first day working as a ‘waitress’ in the ever so ‘uniquely’ named cafe, ‘The Café’. And guess what her first task was…?
For her to go and do some ‘shopping’, of course!
Well, it wasn’t really that much of a bother to the writer… If only she didn’t have to wait for a certain girl to finally walk out of the café and tell her that they could go already.
Why did she have to go buy some things with her anyway? Can’t she just buy them by herself?
“It’s because you have no experience yet”, was what her ‘manager’ told her when she asked, but heck, does buying some coffee really need that much experience? She could have just brought a list of the coffee brands she needed to get, right? So why, for Pete’s sake, did she have to be stuck with her?
“Yukiri~n” A familiar voice rang from the other side of the glass door as it finally open with its chime ringing, revealing the young waitress who apparently, made her wait for more than thirty minutes just to change out of her uniform. “Sorry to keep you waiting. Shall we go then?” Mayu smiled up at her innocently.
You should be sorry for making me stand here for more than thirty minutes… Yuki thought to herself bitterly before mustering up a fake smile and nodding her head at the young waitress. Well, at least they could finally go now, right?
Honestly, Yuki wasn’t really sure herself on how she ended up in this situation. Just an hour or two ago, she was still inside the café, wearing the cursed uniform given to her by her ‘manager’ as she waited for a costumer to finally come in and kill her boredom. But before one could even come in, a loud crash echoed inside the employees only room.
When she walked inside, the first thing she saw was a jar of coffee, now laying flat on the floor and broken into pieces. The girl behind that accident was none other than Mayu herself, who gave her a sheepish smile as soon as their eyes connected. Sashihara stood behind Mayu with the same kind of smile on her face, only it seemed like it was more forced than the former one.
“What happened here?” She asked the two, but neither of them was willing to talk and instead, looked away and scratched the back of their heads. The waitress slash writer heaved out a sigh in response, with her eyes scanning inside the room. Only to see more broken jars scattered everywhere. “Really you two. What happened?”
“IT’S HER FAULT!”
Both Mayu and Sashihara replied in unison, they were pointing at one another at that. Which didn’t really please Yuki that much.
“I said, what happened, I didn’t ask who did it.”
“Well… We… Um… Wanted to compete on who’s the best when it comes to brewing coffee…” It was Sashihara who spoke, her eyes still away from Yuki’s as though she would die if ever their eyes would meet. Thankfully, Yuki couldn’t care less about it. “And so, we went to look around for the coffees Yuko bought with her from America… And after opening that cabinet over there.” She pointed her index finger out, “All of the jars just kept on falling down… Which resulted to this. B-But it was Mayu who opened it! I’m completely innocent!”
“Hey! What do you mean you’re innocent?! You were the one who started this idea of Competing with each other, so it’s your fault!”
Sashihara gasped exasperatedly, “What do you mean it’s my fault! Stop lying you little girl you!”
“ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT! I get it; stop acting like kids, you two!” If only Yuki could, she would have slapped her hand on her forehead already. Her first day working here there’s already an accident. Thankfully, it wasn’t because of her. Still, these two girls before her were nothing but headaches… “Now one of you, go upstairs and inform Yuko about what you two just did.”
Mayu furrowed her brows down. “But she’s already standing behind you, Yukirin.”
“That’s right Yukirin, she’s already behind you~” The writer jumped up a little from the midget’s sudden appearance. “So, you broke them huh? What a waaaaste~”
You don’t seem that disappointed though. Yuki thought with a small sigh.
“There’s no helping it. You two will have to repay me using your paychecks.” A smile then rose up from the midget’s feature, making Mayu and Sashihara groan inwardly at the same time. “Yukirin, if you don’t mind, can you buy the same brands of coffees these two just wasted? Take this as your first task! Here, take Mayu with you. I’m sure you’re not that used with buying coffees for the café yet, so I’m sure she’ll be a huge help for you.”
And you all know what happened next.
Yuki asking why she had to bring Mayu along with her and Yuko telling her that ridiculous reason while Sashihara sulked from the corner because her Paycheck was going to get a minus because of the accident.
“Seriously, this is ridiculous…” Yuki muttered to herself as she walked a few steps behind Mayu. It’s not like she didn’t want to be with the girl, really, but for some odd reason, she would always feel… annoyed… whenever the girl was around her ever since they last chatted (and talked about center). Not that she wasn’t already annoyed at her to begin with.
“Sorry, did you say something?” Mayu stopped on her tracks and turned around, her brows both raised up as she looked at the taller girl quizzically.
“Ah, no, it’s just your imagination.”
Mayu hummed as she resumed on walking- she lessened her pace though, just so she could walk alongside the older female. “Say, Yukirin…” Yuki let out a ‘hm?’, indicating that she was listening, “Want to skip work instead?” A mischievous smile then rose up from Mayu’s feature.
Yuki responded by looking down at her, eyes wide and brows furrowed down. “What do you mean skip work? We’ll only be in trouble tomorrow if that happens. And you’re not actually planning to abandon Sashihara alone in the café now, do you?”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry.” The younger girl simply shook her hand in front of her dismissively. “I already sent a mail to the person we usually buy coffee beans to that I wanted to reserve the usual coffees we buy, so we can just get it after we go and laze around. We’ll go back to the café before sun down, so what do you think? It’s still ten in the morning you know~ I’m sure your stomach’s shouting for food already. Say yes?”
Yuki frowned.
“Please say Yes?”
“If you’re paying for the food, then maybe.”
“What?” Mayu laughed brokenly and then began walking ahead of Yuki. She turned around after distancing herself for a few feet, her index finger pointing up as she began shaking it, “Tsk, tsk, tsk… You really don’t get, do you, Yuki?” she said in a hoarse voice- as though she was trying to act smart and… older than her? Yuki rolled her eyes, “It’s supposed to be the older one who treats the younger! And so,” She walked closer to Yuki again, tapping she side of the girls shoulder soon after, “Treat me?”
Yuki’s frown grew even more as she crossed her arms across her chest. “Give me one good reason why I should, and if I think that it’s good enough, then I MIGHT treat you.”
“Because I didn’t bring any money with me.” The young waitress deadpanned.
“… Pick the place…”
“Yay~”
Shifting her head to the other side, Yuki clicked her tongue inwardly. She secretly pulled her wallet out and opened it, taking a quick glance inside. Twenty thousand. She still has twenty thousand yen. And that’s supposed to be her money for a whole month as well… Why did she have to choose to be a writer when it doesn’t give off much money? She even goes as far as to eat only cup noodles for dinner just so she could live! And now… And now she’s going to treat this leech beside her. Great, just great.
“McDonalds!” The shorter girl finally chimed out after a few moments of thinking, snapping Yuki out of her ‘my-life-is-hell-because-I’m-kind’ trace. “Let’s go eat at McDonalds, if that’s fine with you, I mean…”
“Do you want me to get you the Kid’s Meal?” A smirk slowly rose up from Yuki’s feature, to which Mayu frowned in response. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. McDonalds it is then.”
--
Hearing a gasp, Yuki shifted her eyes to its source, only to see a Mayu with her eyes sparkling like it never did before as she looked at the ‘menus’ listed above the counter before them. Yuki looked up at the place Mayu was staring at soon after, noticing how it was, as what she had expected already, the Happy Meal (something like a Kid’s Meal) column.
It seems like today, their give-away is a figurine of Suzumiya Haruhi, whose pose differs from the food they were going to pick. The Spaghetti was for a Haruhi who stood tall, arms crossed across her chest and her ‘Brigade Chief’ armband clearly visible on her arm, while the burger and fries was with her sitting down on a chair, arms and legs crossed together as she puts on that billion-watt smile of hers. The one with the sundae was for a Haruhi sitting down on a table, holding a yellow ‘megaphone’ like object on her right arm while her arms was still crossed together.
“Which pose do you want, Mayu?”
“Wha- What? No. Wait, no! I’m not buying a happy meal just because I wanted a Haruhi figurine… I mean… It’s tempting but I’d rather pass because you know, it’s a Happy Meal, it’s supposed to be for kids and I’m not a kid anymore so yeah… I’d rather pass so…” The young girl trailed off, her eyes casting away as she slightly puckered her lips sheepishly while fidgeting her index fingers together.
A sigh let Yuki’s lips soon after, “Well, since it’s our turn next, why don’t you just go find some place to sit? I’ll order for you instead, okay?”
“O-Okay, I’ll go do that then.”
Watching the girl hurriedly walking away in search of a seat, another sigh escaped from Yuki’s lips. Seriously, that girl can be so… What was that term again? “Tsun… Tsunder? Thunder? Tsun… Tsundaru? Tsunderu… Tsun…”
“Excuse me Ma’am? I’m sorry to disturb you but you’re holding the line. So may I take your order please?”
“Ah! Right! Sorry…” Yuki bowed down a little while scratching the back of her head. Great, she must have heard her talk to herself. “I’d like to uh… Get the Happy Set, please. And I literally mean the Set.”
The girl behind the counter stared at her in awe. “All of them, Ma’am?”
“Yes, yes. All of them.”
“That would be… Two thousand six hundred yen…”
Ignoring the weird stares from the other customers lining up by the counter as well, Yuki handed the amount to the girl. They must be thinking how creepy it is for a girl like her to buy a meal for Kids… Well whatever, as long as it would stop that young waitress from whining, why not? Not that she’s whining to begin with.
--
“Eh? EH!? EHH!?” Mayu stood up from her seat as soon as she saw Yuki walking closer to her with a tray in hand. A staff was actually following her from behind, holding the other tray which contained some of the food Yuki had order. But that wasn’t the reason why the young girl jumped up from her seat- but because on Yuki’s tray, three Haruhis were neatly settled on it. “YOU BOUGHT THE WHOLE HAPPY SET?!”
“I don’t see any reason why not.” Yuki replied after thanking the staff and sitting down across the Otaku.
Mayu looked down at the figurines, her eyes completely locked on them as she began scanning on each of them while resisting the urge to touch it. “Yukirin…” she finally voiced out, “Can I um… You know… I mean, um…”
“Keep the figurines? Sure, they’d only rot in my house anyway.”
“You’re a Goddess!” Mayu suddenly blurted out, slightly startling the older female and grabbing some of the other costumer’s attention as a result.
A smile then rose up from Yuki’s feature. She was actually half-amazed at how the girl before her could actually yell out embarrassing things like that.
Unbelievable, she thought. “A Goddess? Isn’t that a little bit too exaggerated? Well, that aside, let’s hurry up and finish the food before it gets any colder, shall we?”
With a huge grin still visible on her face, Mayu nodded her head enthusiastically, “Le-”
“Excuse me.”
An unfamiliar voice cut the two from their happy moment. They both turned their attention to the girl standing beside their table in unison and looked up at her.
“Could you be… Little Mouse?”
“Eh?” Mayu blinked. “I’m sorry, do I know you?”
“It’s me!” The girl grinned and held her hand out to her, “Center!”
