El Duque was awesome.

Chicago's sweep of the defending champs proves, at least for this instance, that good pitching DOES beat good hitting.

Yankee fans have at least one day to gloat.

White Sox pitching is stacked, and a pretty good offense to go with it... And there defense is awesome as well... My pick for the new WS champs!

Hey Dai! Japan is awesome! Only negative are some of the other English Teachers, I really hate one of them , he's a spaz... Typical Ivy League grad who thinks he's better than everyone...

Anyhow, back to BASEBALL!

Big Unit was kinda miffed at the Yankee fans not showing some spirit, saying that he'd welcome cheers OR boos in the Stadium.

He sure got 'em!  Goat of Game Three.

I'm looking foward to a good contest between Atlanta and Houston.  The Stros have a good home record and I suspect their offense will pick up.

Going to the SIXTEENTH inning in Houston, tied 6-6.  Rocket going to the mound for his first relief outing since Ronald Reagan was president.

Three up, three down.  Rocket Roger comes through.

Houston fails to score in the bottom of the 16th.  This is now the longest postseason MLB game of all time.

Chris Burke hits a first-pitch walkoff HR in the bottom of the 18th to win it for the Astros.  Rocket is the winning pitcher with three innings of scoreless relief.

The NLCS begins in St. Louis on Wednesday!

Chacon has three strikeouts after two innings pitched for the Yanks.  That's a good thing cause the defense for the Bombers prolly ain't as good as the Angels.

Astros look to be so hot, they might even take it to St. Louis and go to the world series. Me too. I was flipping back and forth from the ends of the 2nd half of the eagles/cowboys. and Just paused when Clemens took the hill...cuz LMFAO when Julio Franco was SO PISSED when he struck out. Viagra does a body good!

Sheff was really clutch last nite with the single. and dude still looked like he could grab a bag. Hideki Matsui is struggling tho. ops. better go tune into the Yanks-Angels now.

Angels win!
« Reply #170 on: October 11, 2005, 09:20:52 AM »
Angels beat the Yanks, 5-3 and move on to the LCS against the White Sox on Tuesday.

Tough loss for Yankee fans.  Part of me actually feels sorry that they're out of the playoffs.

It was rough indeed...the Yanks pitching pulled its asses in gear and made quite the run. Man, the offense of Matsui and A-Rod just whimpered in.

Ah well..I like the Angels from here on out.

Can you IMAGINE the off-season hell that A-Rod will endure this winter?

Brutal, but that's the big leagues kiddo.  He's the 120-Million-Dollar Man and he hit a buck-twenty in the ALDS.

Still, he gets my vote as MVP of the American League for 2005.

^ Bah!! TX homer!! :P

You know...I was reading Canseco's book (I'll write a full review soon :P) and he was saying A-Rod is like the good guy of baseball. Since Canseco was banished (this is my opinion and stating the obvious lol) A-Rod is the media's whippiing boy.

ANGELS! WHOA. 3 timezones. 3 days. And man, Angels they still standing. I'm going to go by a Vladdie Guerrero jersey now! XD XD

White Sox almost pulled it off. I laughed my ass off when A.J. Pierzynski tried to steal 2nd.  Think Angels'll last with Colon injured??

ALCS, game two
« Reply #177 on: October 14, 2005, 12:59:17 AM »
Thoughts on last night's Angels-White Sox ALCS Game Two conclusion:

Eddings did NOT verbally call anything, just the hand gesture for strike three but not the third out.

Angels catcher Josh Paul said that umpires usually verbalize the non-putout: "no catch, no catch" or something. He didn't bother to look at or verify Eddings' hand gestures.

Pierzynski, a catcher himself, ran to first because he was burned on a similar play when a batter reached first base after he dropped a third strike and he trotted to the dugout.
___________

Hand gestures, non-verbal calls... this is like when a runner slides at home plate but fails to touch the base. What does the umpire do? Nothing; it's a non-play. An event that is still in progress. He can't call him safe cause he didn't touch the play. He can't tell him he didn't touch the plate cause that's none of his business. And he certainly can't call him out cause the play isn't completed yet. Nor can he gesture something inbetween.

Eddings certainly should have said something. You know why strike call gestures were implemented? Supposedly to help a popular deaf player who had trouble figuring out which pitches were balls and strikes. Well that's cool but geez when's the last time we had a prominent deaf player in the majors? Must have been a couple decades or so.

Anyway... this too shall pass. This isn't Mickey Owen's dropped third strike in the '41 Series.

Yeah. ALCS Game 2 was wild. Pierzynski pulled that trick outta his ass and it worked. I'm like *jaw dropped* Mike Scioscia is already focusing on the next game. Yeah...the umpire is at fault. and maybe the catcher (what happened to Molina??) coulda tagged AJ for good measure.

Simply the weirdest game ever...and PLEASE fuck instant replay, unless it's for like homers ... like that geek in the black shirt at Yankee stadium during the ALDS last year.

Tonite's game was like WHOA retribution. Astros kept piling it on...but man, Jim Edmonds was just insane. Another solid diving catch. dude was like the undertaker. and shit. you just knew Pujos or someone was gonna get on the board.

The LCS matchups are getting better and better on both sides!  :halo:

World Series could be interesting. I'm a little disappointed that Yankees lost, but hey, you can't win them all. Now I can focus my attention to other sports. :)
