One colorful personality coming from Japan is Akinori Iwamura of Devil Rays. And another less-than colorful personality these days is Manny Ramirez. He seems so silent -- still not happy?

If you want to talk about personalities you should talk about Barry Bonds and his "me first" attitude.  All Barry cares about is himself, how can a guy with this kind of attitude be good for any team let alone be worth 15 mill a season?  The Giants will never win a world series as long as Barry is on that team.

Sometimes I could not understand the personality of this guy, A-Rod. Or is that bad what the media portrays him as such, I mean the anti-thesis of the good-guy-posterboy Jeter?

The media does not portray Jeter as the posterboy of good behaviour.  Last season the media ran stories about his wild partying ways, which got him in trouble with Steinbrener.  The media may treat Jeter like a pretty-boy but I don't think the portray him as the posterboy of good behaviour.

I think A-Rod is just a loner thats why the media rags on him.  But A-Rod is a team player, what other gold golver would be willing to switch positions?  In my opinion it should have been Jeter who should have switches positions.  However, with that being said not all players are able to switch positions.

Here's why I think sportswriters lust for Jeter and scorn A-Rod:

-- Jeter has Rings, A-Rod doesn't.

-- A-Rod has 252 mill, Jeter doesn't.

-- A-Rod is actually a more talented player, which doesn't seem to jive with the above; therefore Jeter MUST be given a boost and A-Rod cut down.

I'm eagerly awaiting next season's Red Sox-Yankees matchup. Though I root for Yankees, I was quite disappointed with Boston's performance especially when they were "massacred." Matsuzaka's arrival could be the key to tip off the balance.

Now, Mariano Rivera is talking -- blasting his team for leaving Mo-buddy Bernie out in the cold. But can one blame the Yankees management? Bernie is not getting any younger.

No one except Bernie, Bernie's family and die-hard knuckleheads can blame Brian Cashman for not blindly giving him a roster spot, guaranteed, at this stage of his career when he has HURT the team for the last couple seasons.

Kerry Wood, sidelined with a bruise after falling out of a hot tub, is back pitching well. Seriously - baseball has the craziest off field injuries.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Male Daisu does in Boston...meanwhile

hahaha, have him pitch the whole week non stop!!

Also, I heard Ken Griffey hurt himself when he was wrestling with his kids on his yacht. DAMMIT Junior. if only he could be healthy we'd be talking about him breaking Hank Aaron's record by now.

They sure do.

Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of MLB history can pinpoint the difference between "HOF worthy" and "not HOF worthy."  The problem decades ago was that the Veterans Committee had a clear bias that was influenced by old-timers from the 1920's and 1930's, primariy from the New York area.  A slew of players were selected in the 60s and 70s that were NOT great players in their era.  Imagine the Hall of Fame basically including everyone from the '98 Yankees, guys like Scott Brocius and Jorge Posada.  Good players, yes, but not exactly the image of greatness that the HOF is supposed to invoke.

So they tweaked the voting system to tighten things up.  Unfortunately adding living members of the HOF didn't exactly expand the knowledge base...

Those of you who bother reading my posts in this thread can probably figure out that: 1) I am a pretty big fan of baseball, and 2) I know some shit.  So lemme list the guys who SHOULD be in.  Now:

Ron Santo
Wally Berger
Marvin Miller
Goose Gossage
Bert Blyleven

Actually, getting worked up over the HOF is like complaining about the Oscars -- after a while, you care less and less.

I agree that Santo, Miller, Gossage and Blyleven should have been voted in a long time ago but Wally Berger? Sure the guy had a couple of great seasons but he's hardly a HOF candidate.

And aren't Gossage and Blyleven still on the regular HOF ballot?

Jim Rice for HOF in 2008!!!!

Berger is to the National League essentially what Earl Averill was to the Junior Circuit in the 20s and 30s: one of the leading sluggers of his time.  He was not Smokey Joe Wood.

Gossage and Blyleven are still on the writers (BBWAA) ballot but I just wanted to give 'em a shoutout.  Tim Raines is eligible next year and I fear he will be snubbed for years to come.

FWIW I don't advocate Rice as a HOF candidate...  In the end, though, it doesn't REALLY matter to me who's in and who's not.  We all have in our minds a certain standard of greatness and that's probably what matters most.

My hall of fame includes: Pete Rose, Ron Santo, Darrell Evans and Buck O'Neill.

My hall of fame does NOT include: Travis Jackson, George Kelly, Rick Farrell, Tinker-Evers-Chance and Fred Linstrom.

ahh gomen, I don't do fantasy.  Way over my head and lazy ta boot.

Slowly getting used to the new rosters, faces.  Can America handle more Japanese media?  Can Pete Rose get even further away from enshrinement in Cooperstown?

Oh and the debate resurfaces: should "Dice-K" be eligible for the American League Rookie of the Year award?
