Damon ponders on the Royals
« Reply #341 on: May 29, 2006, 10:40:54 PM »
Interesting piece focusing on a pensive Johnny Damon looking at the pathetic mess that is his former team, the Kansas City Royals.

Nice to see that there are other dimensions to a guy who marketed himself in so many silly ways (Idiot, Jesus), and that he still has a soft spot in his heart for the past and what might have been.

Here's the rub about this friggin' HGH scandal: it is said that ALL sports will feel the impact of this story, and all athletes will/should be suspect.  Guilty until proven innocent 'cause there's no reliable test currently available, be it urine or blood.

And it's a story like this that gets otherwise admirable people to shit in their pants, like John McCain.  Senator this is BASEBALL, not TERRORISM!

Sheesh, let these guys shoot up and get back zits and limp cocks.  I don't really care.  Just protect me from the REAL bad guys, OK?

OK.

I read that Jered Weaver, star rookie pitcher for the Angels, was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room for Bartolo Colon, coming off the disabled list.

Weaver is 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA.  I don't get it.  Most MLB teams KEEP players like that and dump the lesser talents, like Weaver's older brother on the Angels, Jeff.

What a disgrace.

Before I hit the shower it was 9-2, Houston over the White Sox.  Then Iguchi hit a 3-run homer.

I just turned on the teevee and discovered that the Astros' relief "ace" served up a GRAND SLAM to Iguchi in the bottom of the 9th and now they're headed to the 11th inning.  Wasted outing by Oswalt.

The Houston bullpen should donate this week's paychecks to charity.

Read this guest blogger piece written by a longtime New York baseball beat reporter about the wall between journalists and the people they report on.

Quite revealing for me.  I never thought that Bobby Bonilla was a five-star asshole back in the day but there you go.

Kudos to The Kid.  Can we still call him "The Natural"?  He passed a great one, Mike Schmidt of the Phillies (three NL MVPs in '80, '81 and '86).

It's interesting to note how Roger Clemens was seen playing ball with his son in Single-A baseball.  Well they got nattin' on the Griffeys, Senior and Junior, when they hit back-to-back homers in 1990 in Anaheim.

Junior Griffey isn't anywhere close to 40 years of age; yet he's been playing in the majors since Bush SENIOR was president.  With a little luck, he'll be approaching the 700 home run mark.  And fans will be cheering, for a change.

=D Thats good news. If only he was injury free...who knows how many HRs he would've hit. That swing is so smoooth, I'll still call him the natural.

i love this poll question from espn XDDD

"What was the most memorable moment of minor league manager Joe Mikulik's tirade on Sunday?

Diving on second base

Throwing rosin bag

Throwing the bats

Home plate antics"

seeing him dive on second base was pretty hilarious

The minor league manager was suspended for a week and fined $1,000.

I think ESPN should pay his fine, being that they played the video clip about a thousand times on a dozen different shows.

A-Rod hits a grand slam to right center!

It's now 7-4 Yanks over Mets, bottom 3rd.

Nick Green, a guy I never heard of who was hitting .077, cracked a two-run dinger to center.  Now 9-4, Yanks.

Paul Lo Duca, catcher for the Mets, was snapping at A-Rod after he completed his homer trot.  Cocky bat flip?  Slow around the bases?  No idea; didn't look like he was showing up the Mets that badly.
