211 game suspension for A-Rod is a bit much. I guess MLB will give their reasoning during the appeals process.

One thing that's for sure though.. he deserves at least the 50 game suspension that the other involved players are getting.

All the suspended players are eligible for the postseason if their clubs make it.

I don't think they'd be left out of postseason rosters like Melky Cabrera was last season.

Best thing about the "Ichiro 4000" campaign is how it has given legitimacy to Nippon Professional Baseball. It's not as if his high-school Koshien stats are in the mix here. Greats like Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame despite a dearth of "Major League Baseball" statistics. And with Ichiro there's no reason to discount his achievements with Orix in the 1990s.

It looks like one of the Toronto Blue Jays’ most popular players won’t be back next season.

The team has declined its option on infielder and fan-favourite Munenori Kawasaki, according to reports.

Kawasaki’s option was for $1 million (dollar figures U.S.). He finished the season with a .229 batting average and 24 RBIs. Despite the stats, he was a huge hit with fans who loved his enthusiasm, quirkiness and attitude.

The Jays made three other moves Friday, exercising options for closer Casey Janssen ($4 million), first baseman and designated hitter Adam Lind ($7 million) and infielder Mark DeRosa ($750,000).

Sources said Kawasaki, now a free agent, will likely go back to Japan, where he will sign with a team for $2 million.

FWIW I think Deadspin buying a HOF ballot is spectacularly delicious. I'm not a hundred percent this is genuine and wouldn't be surprised to see a con revealed in mid-January. But I'm all for chaos for whatever concerns the BBWAA these days.

Viva Deadspin. At least they care more about MLB than, say, ESPN...
