You know...  that IS an important record, for those of us who still find relevancy in separation of the two leagues, before Darth Selig fucked things up.

Bonds's chances of nailing #756 are probably at or better than 50-50.  Best of luck to him.

GO GRIFFEY! He moved into 10th place on baseball's career home-run list with a three-run, pinch-hit shot in the eighth inning Monday that lifted the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

How about Trevor Hoffman getting the ALL TIME SAVES RECORD!? I didn't think it was possible when Lee Smith did it. To be honest, I haven't heard much of him. like he has only 1 kidney! :o

Ack, Cards will probably make it by a hair in the NL Central.  A sicko part of me actually hoped that The Choke would be consummated.

I'm also sorry that the Twinkies didn't totally overtake the Tigers and face the A's in the first round of the ALDS.  Yankees look like the Bombers of old going into the post-season (they better pray Mo Rivera is fit).

I just voted in one of those ESPN "Sportsnation" polls: http://tinyurl.com/h9kgh

My selections are in bold.

Again, if Johan Santana doesn't win the A.L. Cy Young then there is no yin AND yang in the universe.

What if Wang wins the Cy Young lol

Yiiikes!  I can't IMAGINE the voters being THAT stoo-opid.  Really.  Of course these are the same dunderheads that gave the award to Bartolo Colon last year...

I'm just following the scores on ESPN today...  I hope Mauer can pull out the batting title.  Smoltz logged in five shutout innings against the Astros, and LaRussa's gamble in starting Joe Shmoe seems to have backfired badly (Reyes is already out of the game, allowing 5 runs in just 2/3rds of an inning).  Amazingly, NONE of these games are on national TV.
____

edit: at 2:40 PM EST, David Pinto reported: Robinson Cano is two for two today to raise his average to .344. Jeter is 1 for 3, still at .345, and Mauer is 0 for 1, still at .346.

Without thinking out the matchups carefully, I predict:

ALDS:
Yankees over Tigers
Twins over A's

NLDS:
Dodgers over Mets
Padres over Cardinals

ALCS:
Twins over Yankees

NLCS:
Dodgers over Padres

World Series:
Twins over Dodgers

Following today's games via CBS Sportsline since my IE browser at work doesn't have new Flash installed for ESPN and Yahoo game trackers.

Definite lag time but I gots no choice.  Following the "live" box score on Yahoo produced stuff like this:

San Diego Inning Summary

- B. Giles grounded out to second
- B. Giles tripled to deep left center
- B. Giles hit sacrifice fly to center, D. Roberts scored

Brian Giles is God, btw.  Not Rika.

Tight game at the Metrodome but The Big Hurt seems to making up for not showing up in the '05 postseason.  Easy game for the Cards in SD but they may find it harder to advance with shitty pitchers in the playoff rotation (Will Leitch of Deadspin lamented the fact that Jeff Weaver is starting on Thursday).

You mean Rika plays outfield?

LOL Jeter goes 5 for 5. That was insane watching em hit up. Tigers bow down to the Yanks.

Jeter's five-for-five night prolly made Joe Buck and McCarver cum in their bibs.  Really.  Capt. Dreamboat, to them and FOX.  And all of North America, for all I know.  Why else do the Yanks get to play in the marquee prime-time slot...

I was rooting for A-Rod to do something like that and shaddap the critics.  Wasn't in the cards but since the Yankees won, nobody will say shit.

And Bobby Abreu just showed everybody how valuable he is.  And I still can't fathom how Wang can throw in the mid-90s and not strike out 7-10 batters a game...
