Rany Jazayerli made a very interesting point in a chat at Baseball Prospectus on Tuesday:

. . . do you realize that Bruce Bochy has been the manager in San Diego for 12 years? Do you have any idea how long a period of time that is for a manager? He's been the Padres' manager for longer than Joe Torre has been at the helm of the Yankees, or Tony La Russa with the Cardinals. Only Bobby Cox has been with the same club for a longer period of time.

Cox, La Russa, Torre, Bochy...which one of these names do not fit?

I had no idea that Bochy was in San Diego for THAT long.  Remarkable stability.

OH baby, sure looks that way. The JPHIP Sports Forum jinx wins again XD 7-0 now.

I'm gonna pull for Mets or Dodgers after this. Or my first love, Oakland. But they always choke

Woo, ALL my LDS predictions will be wrong in a couple hours if the Mets hold on against LA!

Oh, well.  No money down in my case.  No harm, no foul.

WHOA!! Yanks did drop it...who'd thunk!! I'm thinking A-Rod gets traded, Sheff + Giambi released, Big Unit retires. Maaannnn...my picks at least went 2 for 4, pending a Padre meltdown..

Good for Carlos Delgado and the Mets.

The post-season still has some exciting matchups nonetheless!! HOORAY for October!

First up, RIP Buck O'Neill

Dude was a fountain of knowledge everytime I heard him on the radio, saw his interviews.

Whoa, Cards actually stepped up their ptiching. So I'm 2 for 4 in my picks. Who'd thunk teams who stumbled in like the Tigers, a history of choke like the A's, and two starters going down like the Mets would be the potential 2006 World Series champs

Good bye Joe Torre, amazing he lasted this long.

Hey Sab - do you have a good Japaneses Baseball League site (in english) lol I wanted to update the Rakuten Eagles thread but this Russian guy stopped watching after 2004.

One of my favorite bloggers, Alex Belth, reflects on the tragic death of Cory Lidle: http://bronxbanter.baseballtoaster.com/archives/541847.html

Shit, I just heard about that too.  Out on a sightseeing trip, just before going back home to spend the off season with his wife and 6 year old son.  RIP Cory Lidle, 34 years old too young.

I read that he was going to visit a poker buddy in Nashville. He had just got his license last year. He will be sorely missed. You're right KT, he was too young.

Detroit beat Oakland 3-0 today. I smell a sweep tomorrow.

haha not so soon ckd. Frank Thomas has yet to go crazy - A's gotta pull out one. Harden u stupid Canadian!

thx for those JBL links Sab!

GOOCH!! answers Carlos Delgado's 2 homers. Cards pull it outta the Wagner with a 9-6 win. :phew:

...about Lidle. Learned so much about him the past few days. He was a replacement player. Something his peers never forgave him for. Arthur Rhodes  called him out...The Ice Cream blast. "He also ate ice cream during games."

He called out Barry Bonds.

Ruben Amaro: team asked Pat to talk to him about it the flying hobby, it was something we warned him about violation contract. That there was "lotta distraction"

... truly a regular guy amongst all the high paid players. RIP :(

haha, yeah you got me ckd :P

Tigers are poised to pull off one of the greatest reversal of fortunes in MLB history.

Now it's down to Cards and Mets...I missed the game, but St. Louis taking charge. 5-0 win. So never count em  out :o Cards leading series 2-1

Still rooting for Carlos Delgado and all those ex-Dodgers, Blue Jays.

I TOTALLY missed today's NLCS game between the surging Mets and the faltering Cardinals due to the earthquake and subsequent blackout.  Any comments?  I just saw the boxscore and read some accounts of how some of the New York bats came back to life in the game...

No radio either holmes? Aww man...it was pretty good. Mets bats came alive. was sweating it, delivering his sinker untl Carlos Freaking Delgado belted one to left field. It was just a case of a bad starter and bullpen. David Wright finally woke up too.

Glavine is on tmr (Mon) so who knows if MEts can take the momentum.

I am positive that this deal will NOT be consummated.  Still, it should get the faithful Cubbie fanbase buzzing for a week or so.

Lou Pinnella looked so formal in his suit and cubs uni...oh, the man boobs were hidden so well.

Cards take the crucial 5th game 4-2 over Mets. PUJOS coming to life :o

....maybe the delay wasn't good for Glavine. Oh momentum.

Mets choke against Jeff Weaver, whose postseason performance is remarkable.

I would say it's better than 50-50 that Mets win the next couple games in Shea and advance to the World Serious.

If Cards face Detroit then Pujols had BETTER slug 1.000 or something Rika-like if they want to end the current American League dominance.
