Boy it FIGURES that the National League is the one playoff series that goes the distance.  The league has been in a state of flux all season long!

I should be home about an hour after the first pitch so I may be live-blogging/post-whoring in this thread just because...

Yeah!! DO IT!! Fuckin JB get ur ass in here too!

Right now, bottom of the 1st.  Delgado dropped the pop up and Pujos hustled to 2nd. Perez is looking good. Alomar went and talked to em and blamed David Wright lol. In fact, Suppan is delivering some sick stuff too. C'mon Beltran!

Chavez pops out to center with two on.  Four LOB so far for the Mets.

I wonder if Randolph still regrets not having Lastings Milledge on the roster.

Top 5th: Eckstein up with one out, man on second.

Chavez misses a fly in foul left.  Stands appear extended out for postseason...

Eckstein HBP on the next pitch!  Rally for the Cards.

Preston Wilson: out on strikes for the third straight AB.

Pujols up, two out...  First pitch swinging, foul.  Wow, Bonds would be walked.

Second pitch popped up!  Reyes catches it!  Pujols pressing?  Inside pitches he couldn't drive.  Still tied!

BOTTOM 5th: Oliver Perez hits for himself!  It ain't broke, so...

Line drive to LF, caught.  Crowd buzzed for a moment...

Interview in the dugout?!  Fucking Fox, there's a GAME ON!  What the fuck?!

Reyes swinging on a high pitch...  two quick outs.  Suppan steady as ever.

I wonder what the odds are of extra innings?  Players tired, stressed to the limits of human endurace.  Plus it's raining and heavy rains are expected later!

Lo Duca reaching for a ball low and outside, foul...  Ball outside and then another foul left side.  I gotta check for pitch counts.

Damn, Preston Wilson collides with Edmonds in center, almost to the track.  Wilson catches the ball but Edmonds hops around as if in pain.  I doubt there's nothing wrong but Cardinal hearts must've skipped a beat.

1-1, after 5 full.

You know...  being that Albert Pujols isn't slugging 1.000 in the post-season, I wonder if he'll get tagged with goat horns in an unjust and unfair manner, like other superstars (A-Rod, Barry, Dave Winfield, Ted Williams, etal)?  Probably not but if Pujols becomes grumpy after a Game 7 loss...

TOP 6th: Oliver Perez has an entire city on his shoulders.

Edmonds gets snappy on an strike call on the outside.  MLB REALLY needs to overhaul the umpiring; the strike zone is defined by seemingly random forces.

Perez walks Edmonds, Rolen up.  Here comes Randolph...  he's leaving in Perez!

Rolen first pitch swinging!  Drive to left.  Chavez makes a sno-cone catch at the wall, leaping!  Takes a certain homer away!  Edmonds is doubled off!  Rolen went from miracle hero to...  a lower postseason batting average!  Whatta clutch play!

OK Milledge probably does NOT make that play.

BOTTOM 6th: Man...  the catch was incredible but I'm a little surprised that Edmonds was halfway to third base when the ball was caught.  I guess you can't assume it'll leave the park.

To his credit, Suppan is pitching cool and confident.  Heart of the Mets order is up and he's still zipping strikes past them.

What are the odds of a walk-off hit tonight?

Delgado walks for the third time...  David Wright up.  Damn, this Mets team has SOME lineup!

WOW!  Wright hits a dribbler on the left side.  Scott Rolen cuts off a slow grounder from the shortstop and throws it in the stands.  I wonder if he's still brooding over the lost homer.  Second and third, one out.

Now IBB to Green.  Loaded up for Valentin.  Cards infield looks like it's at DP depth.

Valentin looks overmatched against Suppan, being fooled badly by a curve low and fanning on another curve.

Now the defensive hero up with the bases juiced.  "Oh for eleven with runners in scoring position in the postseason."

First pitch swinging popped to Edmonds in center.  Suppan is Mister Badass!

Tied 1-1 after six full.

TOP 7th.  Chad Bradford in the game.  New York bullpen still active.

Molina, the St. Louis catcher, is making Bradford work, fouling off pitch after pitch...  Flies out to left but damn he must have made Bradford throw 10-11 pitches.

1-2-3 inning but damn Suppan was hustling down the line and almost beat a lob throw to first.  Great hustle but I wonder if that sprint will affect his pitching?

1-1 middle 7th.

BOTTOM 7th: Man, Detroit is going to be a prohibitive favorite against either the Mets OR Cardinals.  Pitchers well rested, batters ready to roll...

Tucker pinch hits for Bradford.  Here comes a zillion pitching changes!

The rain is coming down harder.  If it goes to extra innings, what do the umpires do?  Just let 'em go?  I'm told that the Shea Stadium outfield is TERRIBLE when it gets real wet out there.  It can't be easy on the pitchers out there.

I wonder how easy it is to throw a spitter in the rain?  Tucker flies to center, Edmonds moves but a bit to his left.

Top of the order with Reyes...  Umpire is calling a lotta low, outside strikes.  Reyes grounds right to Pujols.

Suppan...  damn, he outdueled Clemens in NLCS Game 7 in 2004 and now he's coming through again with a helluva performance.

Lo Duca grounds to short...  Cards could not have asked for more from Suppan.  Plus it saves the Cardinal bullpen -- La Russa can make a dozen pitching changes from now to the 20th inning if he so chooses.

1-1 after seven full.

Aaron Heilman in for the Mets.  Eckstein grounds to Delgado unassisted.

Spiezio pinch hitting for Preston Wilson.  What's with that red goatee?!

Called third strike!  Spiezio expected more breaking stuff?

The Great Albert is up.  Do they walk him now?!  Two balls, low and inside.

Hah, they just walk him on 3-0.

Encarnacion up.  Joe Buck suggests Pujols might attempt a steal of second.  Yeah, SUUURRREEE!

Wow, swinging strike three!  On to the bottom of the 8th!

1-1, middle 8th.

BOTTOM 8th: You know, Beltran is oh-for-four...  he's gonna explode at any moment.

Taguchi is in left instead of Spezio.

Suppan has just thrown his 100th pitch.  How much longer can he last?  Billy Wagner is in the pen already.

Leadoff walk for Beltran!  That was way the hell outside!  Here comes La Russa, with the first of his dozen pitching changes in this game...

BOTTOM 8th: Man, Jeff Suppan did a tremendous job tonight.  No matter what happens, all baseball fans know this guy is clutch.

OK, who's the new Cards pitcher?  Flores?

WHY is La Russa wearing dark glasses?

Leadoff walk by Beltran!

Delgado struggling to stay alive...  Can't hold his swing, strike three!

Wright up...  What's the story on Flores.  Man, can you imagine the pressure on him?

2-0...  Wright hasn't done much in the postseason...  A lot of check swings here -- Flores is doing SOMETHING right.

From a 3-1 count to a swinging strikeout!  Flores does the job!

Shawn Green up.  Sharp grounder RIGHT to Pujols.  Three out.

Edmonds and Rolen due up in the 9th for the Cards.

1-1, end of the 8th.

Heilman begins the 9th for New York.  Edmonds strikes out swinging to lead off the 9th!

Rolen, 4 for 20 in the series...  I wonder if he's still thinking of that lost HR...

Base hit to left!  Go-ahead run on with only one out.

Molina 2-run homer to left!  Holy shit!  No chance for Chavez that time!  New York crowd has been silenced!

Two ground ball outs and here we go to the bottom of the 9th!

3-1 Cardinals, middle 9th.

Adam Wainwright in to close out the season for the Mets...  Bottom of the order up for the Mets.

Valentin...  coaxes a full count from the new closer.  Bloop hit in short center!

Chavez up.  Rain keeps a-comin' down.

Single to left!  Two men out and no outs!  Floyd looks to be the pinch hitter for Heilman.  The graphic: 5 career pinch homers.  He better cause he sure can't run!

High strike call from the ump!   Floyd doesn't like it!

The rain continues to fall...

2-2 count, another foul.

Breaking ball, strike three call!

Now Reyes.  The crowd cheering something from the World Cup.

Damn, Wainwright is coming through with these pitches.  Yeah two hits to start the inning but now he's settling down.

Count 1-2...  Line drive right to Edmonds.  Two down!

Lo Duca.  He came though last night with a cluch two-run single...

Fastball high, 3 balls, 1 strike.

Ball outside and they're loaded up for Beltran!

Bottom 9th.  Two outs.  Bases loaded.  Big bucks Beltran up.  Here we go!

Called strike, 0-1.

Foul tip, 0-2.

Curve ball, called strike three!   Cardinals shut down the Mets and go to the World Series!

That game was PIMP!  3 years now the cards have made it to the nlcs and finally they make it to the World Series.  The Tigers may be the favorites going in, but I'm counting on So Taguchi to hit a couple grand slams XD

Jeff Suppan gets the NLCS MVP award, well deserved!

Cardinals win their 17th (!) National League pennant.  St. Louis has faced Detroit twice in the World Series, beating them in '34 (Gashouse Gang over Mickey Cochrange & Hank Greenberg) and losing in seven games in '68 (the Year of the Pitcher).

Can you get 2-1 odds against St. Louis?  If so, TAKE IT!
