Damon really sheds light on the Red Sox, "they're dismantling" ... such a shame, they seemed to have a few runs in them.

Wonder if the Cardinals will follow, Reggie Sanders - yeah an old fuck, but he's gone. They just didn't have the juice left against Houston.

I see a few articles written by some bitter people in Boston about how Johnny Damon wasn't really all that good to begin with. He's a singles hitter whose outfield arm is in decline and LET the Yanks have him.

And so it goes... A new wave of performance analysis began in the early 80s with Bill James and came to maturation in the 90s with the Internet. We got all sorts of methods to determine just how good a player is, how much he helps a team win and how to filter out bias and bullshit.

Apparently, that's not enough. People will still vent and use numbers to support whatever dimly inspired agenda is on the table. One scribe said, in print, that Damon was "a below-average Major League hitter in 2005."

Some people deal with loss better than others. I think what this writer REALLY wanted to say wouldn't get past the editor's desk so he tried to couch his feelings in nerdy stathead prose. It didn't work. Damon's probably going to be better in '06 than whoever the Red Sox are able to put out there in centerfield.

Bill Simmons is perhaps the last, best talent available on regular EPSN-dot-com, with Rob Neyer and Gammons stuck in pay-per-view purgatory. He's a New England resident whose fandom for the Sox is grounded in realism. He's also a hella funny guy.

A lot of Red Sox Nation is whining right now, making snap rationalizations regarding the quality of Damon's contributions to the Sox in the last few years and have come to the conclusion that ahh, he's not that good a player. Which is the same kind of feeling teenage guys get about the ex-girlfriends that dumped them unexpectedly ("ahh, she wasn't that cute to begin with") -- but just wait 'till you see her holding hands with the school's QB.

I don't think people have paid attention to how the Yankees courted Damon more than the Red Sox. The effect that Larry Lucchino (the man that drove Theo Epstein away) has had on the team may have far more destructive power than Damon's impact on leaving an empty gap in center. The effect of the negative vibes PLUS the extra $12 million could turn any of us into a "traitor."

More likely he hasn't managed his money well from when he was playing, and he's finding it increasingly hard to live the lifestyle that he's gotten used to.

How one can vote for Sutter and NOT Gossage is beyond me...

Apparently, a person entrusted with the responsibility of voting for baseball's highest honor... gave a nod to Walt Weiss.

You can make a HOF argument for and against the Goose, Sutter, Rice, Jack Morris, Albert Belle, etc. But Walt Weiss?!

Come on, people... This is like giving your presidential vote to Paris Hilton. Whoever this dunderhead is should have his voting privileges revoked. Immediately.

Red Sox fans may be happy tonight but I remain skeptical. Things may still be a mess, especially if/when Manny Ramirez starts to act up again.

they'll still be in a mess even with epstein back. he'll defintely have to work some miracles to get their pitching in order.

Red Sox Get Coco Crisp

I think the Red Sox overpaid for Crisp. Crisp may be better now but I think Marte will have a better career. Only time will tell.
