Let There Be Love
IV
“Mmmm, oishiii!!!”
I played with the chopsticks while watching Yuria slurping her noodles happily. Before we got here-- ramen store which was recommended by her--my stomach kept being intolerant and grumbled all the time, but now when a bowl of hot ramen already sat in front of me, I didn’t feel like eating at all. However, seeing her eating excessively like that made me curious to have some too.
“Itadakimasu…” I lazily mumbled.
Hmm, it was really good just like I thought. She’s not bad for choosing place, though. Maybe it was not a terrible idea going out with her for a lunch, as Mom didn’t save me anything to eat after her leaving for morning shift anyway. But I hoped this only happened today and wouldn’t be a habit in the future. I was too arrogant to tear down the barrier between us.
Minutes passed and we still hadn’t exchanged words as we both busy enjoyed our meal. But that didn’t matter as I didn’t want any conversation happens anyway. It’s just fine like this.
“Ne, Kumi-senpai, do you want ice cream? I know the best place!”
I almost choked hearing my name being called; it still sounded unusual to me as she always called my family name. But then I thought again, it was me who asked her to call me that way. No, it’s not like I started liking her. It was just an act of me feeling gratitude of her deeds today and I was too supercilious to say “thank you” straightforwardly to a stalker. No, I didn’t talk about her theory of waking me up as well, that’s just disgusting.
“I’m fine…” I shook my head. See? I already thought she would bring me to another place and another place and another place aaaaand another for a day and she would think I start liking her and this ended up becoming a date. However, I wouldn’t let that happen.
“I see…” I saw those downcast eyes again. She looked a bit sad I assumed, maybe she really wanted to go there. Suddenly I felt disconcerted and realizing both of our bowls already empty, I decided to ask her.
“Do you want to go?”
Her change of expression was really quick like a camera flash that I almost believed she just put on an act to make me agree going out with her. Now I regretted for asking.
“Yes!”
“Then go. I’ll go home now.” I shrugged.
“But I want to go with you…” She pouted. Oh, so I was right?! She really did take this as a date huh. Looks like I need to straighten things out then.
“Listen, we’ll not going anyw-“
“You need the newest volume of Kuroshitsuji, right?”
Eh?! My ears awaken hearing my favorite manga title being spoken. My memories drifted to yesterday; the day I failed to buy any because of me losing my mood instantly thanks to her. Wait, how did she know that I was currently craving for that? Oh I already know the answer; because she’s a stalker.
Rather than answering, I scoffed and grabbed my wallet to pay the ramen. I had to admit that she’s such a pro knowing about me to the little details I didn’t even remember. I wondered if she has a special book where she’s taking notes of everything about me. Or a sophisticated telescope that she could easily observe me every day. Every step I take, every move I make, even when I’m taking a bath. Worst, she already attached a very very very small GPS chip somewhere in my body that I couldn’t spot on. However, thinking about those things made me unconsciously shiver.
A hand stopped me when I was about to pay the meal,
“I already said it’s my treat today!”
“Ah…well…” I slowly put back the money into my wallet. But something a bit odd here, after I went back to my seat, I saw her only bowing and saying something I couldn’t hear to the owner before walked back to me,
“Done!”
Wait, I didn’t see her taking out any money from her wallet, did she really pay the meal?
“But you haven’t pa-“
“Thank you so much, ojichan!” she bowed to the old man which was the owner, and I reflexively bowed as well.
“Come again next time, Yuria-sama.”
Oh I see, so this old man already knew well his customer. But wait…did I mishear? Did he call this girl “sama”? That was just such an unusual way to call a customer unless you are the owner of the place. Plus I didn’t see she paid a thing…wait. Could she be the owner of this place?!
“That’s why you treat me here. This place is yours, isn’t it?”
At first I only received a peculiar stare which followed by massive laughter that made me look like a retarded seal in a zoo being laughed by curious elementary school kids. No matter how I tried to wear my angriest face, it was worthless that she kept laughing till the tears welled up her eyes.
“Of course not!” She finally answered after settling down from her forever laughter. I was about to object her obvious denial but she continued with the answer,
“Let’s say…fate made my family help his family a bit.” She humbly smiled.
“You must be a rich person, aren’t you?” she only giggled; which meant a yes. Then all my anxiousness about her buying GPS, sophisticated telescope, or private satellite, could be possibly happened for real as she comes from a wealthy family anyway. If that’s true, I really needed to plan my great escape from Japan then. First, I had to get a plastic surgery that she won’t recognize me forever. Then I would fly to Africa, no, further to a deserted island where her GPS couldn’t detect my position. If those plans seemed so complicated and expensive that I couldn’t afford, I would just commit suicide then.
“Let’s go buy your Kuroshitsuji.”

Here we are, standing in front of one and the only and also the biggest manga and anime store in this town. This also like the second home for me, as I always come here every day spending most of my time rather to study if there were no track and field club activities afterschool. I even knew well some of the staffs here, they let me to read for free as long as I want since I’m the most loyal customer in this store.
“Kumi-senpai, I got a call. Excuse me.” She pointed at her phone and walked to a corner to answer whoever was that. Oh well, I shrugged and stepped inside.
“Yo, Yagami-san!"
I knew that voice, the voice that always greeted me whenever I entered the store. I turned my head to find an ikemen face standing behind the cash register; Nakanishi Yuka.
“Looking for something? Just tell me and I’ll find it for you.” She winked at me. Yuka-san’s always being friendly to every guest, and she had special business smile that immediately make you feel like at home.
“Thanks…but let me look around first.” I really didn’t want to go out of this store quickly, so I decided to be in this place as long as I could; to bought time so that girl got bored and decided to leave me alone. I’d be free and getting my manga, yay.
“Just tell me if you need something.”
“Copy that.”
My eyes caught Yuria still talking on the phone; she looked pissed to, whoever she’s currently talking to. Well, as if I care. I continued observing every shelf in the store, especially in the new release section. I wanted to replace all my old and dusty collection in my wooden cupboard. Recently, I’d been thinking to cast them away. You see, the incident with my closet yesterday reminded me a lot, thanks to her.
Newest Kuroshitsuji must be in this section too as it just came out yesterday, but strangely I didn’t see any. I kept looking here and there but still…none of Sebastian or Ciel’s face caught in my sight. I started to worry that it might already sell out. But then again I thought, it CAN’T be sold out that quick in a day. Maybe they still had in their storehouse.
“Ne…Yuka-san. Do you still have latest Kuroshitsuji?”
“Ah…let me see…” she moved to the computer nearby, where all the data of the store kept. You could check all the stock in the storehouse in detail without even going in and search for it manually.
“Sorry Yagami-san! I think we’ve ran out of it. Last package just sold this morning. But you can wait a week.”
“A WEEK?!”
“Uhm well…you see this is the only manga store in this town and the shipment from Tokyo will be arrived in a week…I guess. Kuroshitsuji is quite popular, you know.”
“But! Ohh never mind…” I sighed in defeat. Yuka-san patted my back in sympathy.
“What’s with the commotion?” A woman voice behind startled both of us. I saw Yuka-san bowed and I turned to find out who it was.
“What now?” That vexing grin of my stalker irritated me again. I almost forgot that I went here with this girl as well.
“Are you looking for this, Senpai?” she showed me what appeared to be what I’d been looking for since yesterday; you know what I meant. How come she bought that? Online store?
“Ehh?! Yagami-san! You know Yuria-sama?”
Yuria-sama!! After that ojichan, now Yuka-san. Then who? Japan Prime Minister as well? Why was only me not calling her “sama”? Who is she?
“Oh Yuka-san…not you too…” I facepalmed.
“Ara…Nakanishi-san knows Kumi-senpai?” Somehow that happy tone of her exasperating me more in the ways I couldn’t explain. Yuka-san only nodded.
“By the way, I bought this for you. Glad it’s the last stock this week.” She shoved the manga to me. Hold on, It’s not like I didn’t appreciate her gift but I felt like I can’t take this. By taking this, meant I would own her a gratitude which lead me to open the gate wider for her butting into my life even more; something I had avoided from the start.
“No, I can’t take this.”
“Don’t worry, you don’t have to pay. This place is mine.”
