“You agai-“
“Senpai!!”
My eyes instantly widened in disbelief as she jumped and encircled her arms around my waist. Her head against my stomach, her sodden locks covering her face, and her body was shaking. I tried to struggle letting myself off of her but it just made the seize tightened and I started feeling eerie around my waist. What kind of ambush was this?! Freaking one universe, ten planets, seven seas, seven continents, 204 countries but I still had no place where I wouldn’t have bad luck to meet this girl! After all the stalking thingy, befriending with Mom, riding on me when I was asleep, going out for a meal, even paying Yuka-san to do whatever she demanded that has to do with me, now she dared to touch me so closely like this! What kind of plan she would be doing this time?!
“LET THE HELL GO!!”
“No!”
I was sure everyone passing by would think we both were idols and in the middle of some drama shooting. It was very likely since the rain, the way we both sat on the ground, the way she hugged me like a lost lover, and the way we shouted to each other supporting the ambiance. Finally I managed to break free but something seemed strange when I observed her condition.
“Kizaki-san…”
It was hard to tell whether it was the rain or tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably. If it was the rain, then the theory didn’t suit how I could hear a faint sound of sobbing between the loud thuds of the downpour. Then in that second I felt somewhere in my chest twinge and the next time I knew was, my body moved on its own.
Without any words, I helped her propping herself up and as if hypnotized, all my anxiety and displeased feelings suddenly gone somewhere and instead, I somehow felt like having compassion towards this girl. She then sat on the passenger seat on my bike and I let her to hold my waist from the back before I started cycling to, wherever I might possibly find a shelter in the middle of this rain. I could feel her head leaned against my back, and her arms wrapped tighter as I rowed faster. Being touched so closely like this again, I wondered I didn’t feel really disturbed or disgusted anymore. And as if driven by something unseen, my feet just brought us back to my home.
It was as if I had two different personalities occupied my body that all I did that day was so out of my character. It was all happening too fast, even to my standards. All I remembered was, I saw her on her uncharacteristically vulnerable side for the first time, so well hidden behind her cheerful and mischievous expression she always had, and somehow the icebox where my heart used to be started to melt and leaving me tranquil which somehow was the main cause behind all my deeds. Not that I denied this feeling instead, even I wasn’t sure whether she just put on an act again just to gain my attention or she was just experienced something that I could tell whatever it was isn’t right by just looking; I felt the need to take care of her. It’s like…I could just be my usual self and leaving her here alone but somehow I just couldn’t. And I didn’t know why.
My body began to shiver cold as I opened garage to park my bike. I stole a glance at Yuria who was now standing beside me, her arms folded on either side of her body; feeling cold as well. No wonder since we’ve been under the rain for about fifteen minutes. More than this, someone should be sent to hospital due to pneumonia. Then our dripping bodies moved to the front door and I realized, after knocking times, Mom wasn’t at home.
“Damn!” I kicked the wooden material. At time like this, where’s she anyways? Must be delivering azuki (azuki=red beans) pie to Grandma since she was planning to do so. Luckily Mom always put the spare key under the door mat but that wasn’t the problem I’m talking about. The thing is, I just realized that I just brought myself a hungry animal I’d been avoiding at, to my own lair. And without Mom’s presence here…what happened weeks ago when she climbed on me when I was asleep might be happened again. Oh dang, I started to shiver again. And strangely it wasn’t a result of cold.
So tell me where do I start. Ever since we entered my house, everything became thousand times scarier and awkward and I didn’t know why I just couldn’t look or turning my head to her as if looking at her is hazardous. Still without talking, I just let her sat there, on the couch in the living room while I made myself busy making some tea in the kitchen. Once in a while, I glanced at her who was now paying attention at my family portrait on the wall.
“Here,” I put a cup of tea on the table, “warm yourself up.”
“Thank you.” She simply answered and started drinking it slowly. I could hear a faint sound of gulping as she drank. While I stood there like a statue observing her, I remembered something important; she was drenched and so was I.
I ran upstairs to my room before she finished the tea. Hurriedly I grabbed some towels and ran back to living room,
“Dry your hair.” I shortly stated while shoving the towel. She just oddly sitting there, gave me an odd stare as if seeing something extraterrestrial. And in fact, I knew deep down there she must be wondering why was I doing this. Why was I being this kind.
“Senpa-“
“Shut up and take it.” No, I wasn’t going to let her deeming me kind or as a final point accept her presence in my life. I finally realized my real self was taking over this time. At least, it could control my actions over this unexplainable pace of heartbeat I’ve been feeling all the time.
Evading my sight on her eyes, I looked at her shoulders. Something a bit weird here, I continued to examine her condition and blushed instantly as I could see her white bra through her soaked blouse. It’s not like something I had never seen before and we’re both girls anyway also I had already seen so many naked girls in the changing room after the club activities ended but this time I felt like I shouldn’t look. I turned my head away as my cheeks blazing while trying to arrange some sentences. Crap, what’s wrong with me?!
“G-go change and take a bath. The bathroom is down the hall to the right.”
“But Kumi-senpai, you too!”
“Just go.” She didn’t have to worry about me anyway, as I could use the bathroom upstairs.
“…okay”

Was it just me showering that fast or she was asleep in the bath or what? I kept rubbing the towel against my half drying hair while walking downstairs and found out that none of her figure in the living room. My body felt lighter as I had myself change in black tees and plaid pajama pants; way better than the drenched attire I wore before. Then still with the towel around my neck, I threw myself to the sofa and let my back’s muscles to relax. I grabbed the TV remote and switched on some music channels while waiting for her to come out.
Even though the channel was currently playing my favorite music video, I couldn’t even focus on it any second as my brain was occupied with something else. Everyone could see I gaped at the monitor with a blank stare. I was thinking about “why did I even doing this?” I meant, I could just get back to my room and sleep rather than staying to check her condition. Or let her sitting alone here waiting for the rain to subside. But an unseen power kept telling me the opposite and I couldn’t help but obey. I knew there’s something wrong with me now that I wasn’t able to figure it out; I just wanted to make sure she was okay.
My eyes switched from the screen to the source where a voice of the door creaking open and suddenly a familiar heat crawled to my cheeks. Yuria walked out the bathroom holding her clammy clothes while nearly covered in nothing except the towel I gave her before. As she stepped closer I mentally gulped since I could see the water drops rolled along from her damp hair down to her pale chest and disappeared into her cleavage. I immediately turn my sight back to the television while trying to cast away some dirty minds I had for a brief seconds. No matter how hard I strived to concentrate my mind at the commercial break in the screen, her scent all over the room made my common sense turned into hazy mush.
“A-are you done?” I controlled my voice at the sane level since I felt it was shaking a bit. Hearing no reply, I looked at her again who was now walking forward with a weird pace---almost like a drunkard; lately I realized her face a blunt red and one other hand held her head. I threw away all my hesitance and ran at her as I sure she wasn’t in a good condition.
“Hey. Are you okay?”
“Um…” She looked up at me slowly. Her eyes looked tired. I didn’t know what to do until I felt an unusual heat radiate all over her body. I knew I would regret this later but I put my forehead on hers and what I thought was true, she had a high fever.
“Senpai…” I snapped back as I heard her soft whimper and hurriedly stepped backwards. Suddenly, without knowing why, her face became redden than before.
“I’m taking you to the bed.”
“S-senpai?!”
“Shut up. You need some sleep.”
“Oh…I th-“
“Whatever you had in mind. I’M NOT A HENTAI.” I took the clothes in her grip and ran to the washroom before tossing them to the wash machine. Then I ran upstairs to my room, grabbing a pair of pajama pants and a plain white shirt that might fit her. I came back down quickly and still with my chest heaving for air, I gave them to her.
“Wear these.”
Yuria was about to take but stopped as her hand retreated back to her head. She bit her lips and her eyes closed as she let out a pained moan again. I watched with anticipation and deliberately guided her to the couch as I knew she must be feeling dizzy standing up for too long. Before we even reached the couch, I felt she swayed. Everything would be easy and I would take her to bed immediately if she fainted backwards and not like this! A common warmth spread all over my face as I felt my body and her half-naked ones against each other and her face was only inches away from mine. If it wasn’t because of my suddenly throbbing heartbeat, her weight wouldn’t be a problem for me to bring her to bedroom. But in reality, my hands on her shoulders started shaking nervously and my legs weaken in seconds with the result we both fell with her on top of me. I didn’t know why I even held my breath the time I feel her hot skin upon mine, her hair like curtain spreading all over my chest, and her warm breaths attacking my neck. My mind was too busy fighting unexplainable feelings inside that I didn’t care anything happened around me and so I didn’t notice someone unlocked the front door before made her way in.
“I’m home!”
That voice sounded like a whip to me and I suddenly regained my common sense back. I really forgot that nobody home when we were in and now she came back. My Mom’s back.
I saw her eyes widened in shock as she saw two bodies laying on the floor. Her mouth in a large “O” like she was about to shout or something. I prepared myself to hear whatever comes from that aged lips.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!”
“Mom…I can explain…”
One more “it’s not what it’s like” moment. Sigh.
