YukoYuki: Hole in the Wall
In my school there is an old wall that had been there since the school was first built. Sometime along the way the wall suddenly got a mysterious hole that no one knew how it got there. Every time the school fixed it, the hole would come back. Eventually the principal gave up on fixing it and eventually left it there. They say that one day a student was walking past the hole and noticed a note in the hole. When they read it, it said,
“Hi my name is Yuki. Wanna be friends?”
The student thought it was a joke so they wrote a reply. Then the next day when they checked it, there was a response. Slowly the student started to get to know Yuki and then once day the student asked if they could meet Yuki in person. Yuki became scared and said she couldn’t which made the student think it was just another prank. Soon after the student never wrote to Yuki again. The next day the student didn’t show up to school and didn’t show up for weeks after. Eventually when others asked the mother what happened they said the student died. She claimed she found the student dead in their room. Now no one walks by the hole and it’s been left there ever since.
I’m new to the school and when I first heard the legend I didn’t believe it. I thought it was just a joke and there was no way a wall could talk to someone. After class I went to the wall and saw the hole was empty. I slid my note into the hole and then left. Then the next next day I didn’t see anything but when I checked later on I saw the note was gone. When I stopped after school there was another note and I opened it. There it was the note that started it hall,
“Hi my name is Yuki. Wanna be friends?”
I took out a pencil and wrote,
“Sure! My name is Yuko! Nice to meet you.”
I left notes every day and every day I would find a new one. We got to know each other really well and we talked about all kinds of things. At one point I had forgotten my text book and told Yuki and the next day my text book was there on my desk! I finally decided it was time to find out who Yuki was so I snuck back inside the school and hid behind some trash bins. After a while I heard some shuffling so I looked up to see if there was anything there. Sadly there was nothing but I saw the note was gone! I couldn’t believe that and I thought that maybe they ran across the hall looking for someone. However there was nothing there and I wondered what was going on. I walked back over to the hall and saw a small glow coming from it. It vanished before I could get a good look at it but it looked like a hand. That’s when I knew there must have been someone on the other side of the hole. I looked around for any kind of secret passage way but there was none and I have no idea how someone could get behind it. From what I understood there was only concrete behind that wall.
The next day I walked around the building in the area where the wall was but I couldn’t find anything there. I went through some old school blue prints and didn’t see any secret passage way or tunnel. There was nothing but solid wall and nothing was getting in or out. That day I asked Yuki if I could meet her and she said that she was too scared and shy. I tried really hard to get her to come out but she kept insisting that we couldn’t meet. That night I decided to try a different plan and get her to come out. I left a note and hid in the same spot I did before. This time though I had a string pulled to the note so when it started to move I would pull the note back out. I waited until finally the note started to move and I pulled.
The note came out and something else also came. There hanging from the hole was a long white arm. I ran out and grabbed the arm and started to pull. However the arm was strong and started to pull back as well. I pulled as hard as I could and slowly I could feel the hand slide out. Then with one big tug, something big came out. I fell hard and hit my butt and it hurt but when I looked over I saw something that left me breathless. There next to me was a girl only there was something different about her. She was giving off a strange glow and she looked almost transparent. However the one thing that I saw that made her stick out the most was that she had no feet. That’s when I realized this girl was not alive but a ghost. She must be Yuki the one who wrote the notes.
“Yuki?”
“Hai?”
Yuki looked over and saw me and was a little scared. She tried to run away but I told her don’t go. She looked over at me and I smiled. I held out my hand and said,
“Don’t be afraid.”
She slowly reached out and I took her hand. She was cold as ice.
“What happened to you?” I asked.
“When the school was first being built this area was still under construction. When I was alive I was always bullied and picked on. One day I was being chased and ran here trying to escape. I hid in a space under that wall and waited for them to leave. When the left I was about to get out but then cement was dumped on me. I tried to call out but no one could hear me and I was buried in the cement. I died and I wasn’t able to go to heaven for some reason. I’ve been stuck here ever since.”
I wanted to say something but the tears wouldn’t stop flowing from my face. It took me a while to get it together but eventually I did and then I told her,
“Well how about I help you leave?”
“How can you do that?”
“Well why don’t you think of the happiest things you remember when you were alive?”
“Well I remember being with my friends who protected me when I was being bullied. They were so nice to me and we had all kinds of fun.”
“Well remember that time Yuki and think the happiest things you could.”
“Yeah.. I remember the park we went to and the old ramen shop. All the games we played and even my old crush. I remember being in love and all the wonderful things. So many wonderful times…”
Suddenly Yuki started to emit this warm glow coming from her. She looked over at me and smiled with tears in her eyes. She reached out and hugged me pulling me close to her.
“I remember her…”
A strong light came out of Yuki and filled the whole room. Then suddenly I started to see everything in Yuki’s life. I saw the friends she was talking about and it showed me all the fun times. It showed me everything she did from hanging out with friends to being with that girl she was talking about. The one that she loved and cared about so much. I watched them kiss each other and dirty things that made me blush. Then I watched Yuki be chased and hide into the hole. I watched her being buried and died. Then everything shattered and destroyed and all that was left was Yuki. She had a smile and said,
“Thank you Yuko.”
“No problem.”
“Oh and one more thing…”
“Nani?”
Yuki walked over to me and suddenly pushed me into the hole.
“Hey what’s going on?!” I said.
“I lied Yuko. I wasn’t buried here. There was a spirit before me that told you the same story and I believed her. I set her free and she dragged me into this cold wall. Now I’m free which means it is your turn…”
“Eh?!”
Before I could do anything the hole sealed and Yuki left. The next thing I knew, I died and everything was dark from then on. I don’t know how long I had been there in that hole but it felt like years. I was just sitting there in the cold darkness when I suddenly saw a light. It was small but it was something. I tried to get to it but there was something pulling me back. I tried calling out but no voice would come. There was a small piece of paper and a pencil sitting on a table. I don’t know what happened but there was something me that made me write down words I had heard long ago. I placed the note outside the hole and watched a young girl pull it out. There she read the note saying,
“Hi my name is Yuko. Wanna be friends?”
And so the cycle of the spirit in the wall starts all over again and now I’m in it. I guess that’s what happens when you mess with a hole in the wall.
