As the lights dimmed on stage, a lone figure sat in the corner of the huge room, stuffing her clothes into her bag, wanting to do nothing but leave from the concert hall as soon as she could. The emotions that were gushing out from her heart were starting to be too much for her to take. Her plans to leave the arena were taunted however, when a smooth, somewhat whiny voice called from behind her. “Miichan~ stop packing,” Haruna complained, holding the younger girl’s hand and pulling her towards the opposite direction, “Photo-time!”
The original Team A members, the handful of them, gathered and took some photos. However, from the sides of Miichan’s eyes, she caught sight of the original Team K members doing what the 5 of them were doing. What’s different was the twinkle of tears on their faces, the tears that were threatening to fall and the smiles on their faces that looked somewhat forced. “Mii~~chan!” Haruna whispered, giving her puffy cheeks a playful poke, “Pay attention here~” she commanded teasingly. Snapping out of her thoughts, the shorter girl gave an apologetic nod.
A few photos later, the group dispersed, heading different directions and finding different members to snap some memorable photos together. “Miichan’s heading home already?” Haruna asked, trailing behind the younger girl as she went back to her spot earlier and picked up her bag. Miichan nodded, giving the taller girl yet another apologetic smile. “Miichan doesn’t handle graduations well huh?” Miichan froze upon hearing Haruna’s observations.
Kojima Haruna, the airhead that everyone took for granted, is nothing like the image that she portrayed. Yes, she might look like a dreamer, she might be out of it for a lot of times, she might even not be listening to you when you speak, but she’s a lot more depth than everyone gave her credit for. And Miichan knew that.
“Yeah,” the girl admitted, “It’s just sad when people leaves no? Be it voluntarily or not, it’s just sad when it happens,” she continued. She turned and gave a melancholy smile towards the group of Team K members’ direction. “Yuka’s graduation stage…and Tomo~mi’s graduation announcement…now original Team K has the same members left as us.”
“What if one day I graduate?” Haruna asked suddenly and Miichan choked, snapping her head towards the taller girl. “I’m saying, what if. What if one day Marichan graduates too? What if Tomochin graduates? What if even Takamina graduates? What is Miichan going to do?” Miichan made a face and shook her head, pressing her lips together and refusing to answer the question. “You know that’s possible, since you’re the youngest. We could all leave AKB before you,” Haruna pressed on, ruffling the shorter girl’s hair slightly. A tear finally rolled down Miichan’s face and she turned to Haruna, giving the taller girl a dejected pout. “Miichan’s still a baby afterall~ a crybaby,” Haruna teased as she wiped the tear away from the girl’s face.
“I’d be really lonely,” Miichan muttered, “But if there are only 2 of us left in the group, I’ll leave with the last one!” With a determined look on her face, the younger girl said and Haruna laughed.
“Baka. You can only leave after you’ve successfully walked out the 1831st metre in your path forward. Only if you’re able to do so, you can leave,” Haruna said, giving a light knock on the shorter girl’s forehead. “Untimely as the graduations might be, Yuka had already made a mark with her musical involvement. For Tomo~mi, it’s better to leave when you’re at the top no? It isn’t like you didn’t know how she hd been struggling with health problems and the whole backlash from the program…”
Miichan chuckled, “Airhead Nyannyan is really just a myth, you observe too much.”
“I do?” Haruna gave a blank look at the shorter girl and laughed. “No, it’s what everyone knows. Maybe Miichan doesn’t because Miichan’s still a baby!”
“Hey!! I’m not a baby!”
“Yes you are, little Minami!”
“I’m not little!!!!! Takamina’s little!”
“Baby Minami! Who was the one crying her eyes out at Acchan’s graduation?”
“Hey!!!!! You cried too!”
Haruna stuck out her tongue playfully at the other girl before moving nearer to Miichan and giving the girl a hug. “I thought we would stop feeling all these sense of lost, loneliness and sadness as we handle more graduations, but I was wrong,” Haruna mumbled, head resting on Miichan’s shoulders. “We only learned to be stronger and to take things in our stride. And also, we learned that every moment in AKB should not be taken for granted. I believe the other members realized that too. 6.5 years the Team K members had been together, it might be sad, but…if this is the path that the members had to take, the rest would be behind them.”
“Yeah, like how we’ll always be behind Acchan,” Miichan muttered. “I guess we’ll all learn a way to deal with the emptiness, the loneliness.”
“It isn’t going to get any easier, little Minami. But you’ll get the hang of it,” Haruna teased, laughing as Miichan struggled against the embrace slightly in protest.
“Not little Minami!!!” Miichan complained, pulling away from the taller girl.
“And even if we do graduate before you,” Haruna continued, smiling at Miichan.
“We’ll always be there for you. Because you’re little Minami!”

I’ve always wanted to write something about Miichan as center for a oneshot. Although what I planned to write when I first opened the word document an hour ago is different from the end product…I guess I’m rather okay with this piece. I would want to revisit the idea of the Miichan-center piece that I had in mind when I have the time. But I’m not sure if I would still write it because the 1st half of this piece is written with that idea in mind. Oh wells.
I want to do a few more graduation pieces though.
