Chapter 2: Accept Me
“D-D-Dead?” I croaked quieter than what I had expected.
The said girl nodded in amusement. “Haha, you’re scared.”
“S-Scared? M-me? Of course n-not. Hahaha.” I gripped my blankets tighter and shuffled back a little further. “I-I’m not sure if I fully believe you anyways.”
The short girl’s lips parted slightly, and she looked at me straight into my eyes. She wanted to say something, something serious, I was sure of it but the seriousness in her eyes changed and I was next greeted by a simple chuckle.
“Hahaha, You’re right I’m not dead, I’m your daughter from the future!” She put her hands to her hips and laughed hysterically.
“What?”
“Yeah I came back to tell you to stop not um eh-…that’s right! Y-You stole the last pork from my katsudon, so I came back to tell you to not do that?” The girl rubbed the back of her neck, probably out of nervousness.
I decided to play along. “So when exactly did this happen? You should know since you came back just to remind me not to eat your last pork from your katsudon.” I lifted my eyebrows at the interrogated girl who seemed to be now fidgeting. I held in my laugh.
“Um…that would be…6pm…on the 10th of July 2025…”
I laughed. Honestly this girl, she’s still trying to keep her lie up.…” Then you should know what that date meant to be…
daughter.” I smirked and let go of my blankets.
The girl’s eyes switched from the carpet to my eyes, then she let a out a sigh. “I don’t know…”
“10th of July…my birthday. How could you not know?! Daughter?” I smiled.
“Oh…sorry…but, I’m not from the future…” Her eyes diverted from mine and she mumbled something.
“Haha, I got that. Don’t look so guilty. You’re not very good at lying…hahaha”
“I’m glad you finally smiled.”
I immediately stopped my laughter and once again stared at her mesmerizing eyes. “So…you really are….What are you doing here?”
“I can’t leave this world…” The ghost girl turned her back to me. “So can you…perhaps help me?” Takahashi-san turned back to me and gave a big grin.
“…I-I don’t know…if I want to be wrapped in this sort of thing…” I mumbled, not wanting to hurt her feelings. “I bet there are others out there who can help…” I took all the courage needed and brought my eyes to meet hers. She was surprisingly smiling but her next words stung my heart.
“I’m sorry for bothering you. See you later.” She mumbled before disappearing
I felt so guilty, but it was all the best right, I wasn’t the right person for this kind of thing anyways. I still haven’t thanked her, but it couldn’t be helped, that was probably the last time I’ll be seeing her anyways. I’m sorry.
Wait…see you later?
Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yoursThis felt like some kind of punishment lecture, how can Mr Akimoto sensei be this boring? Don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice man, but when he opens his mouth and blabbers math integration stuff, I drone out. It’s not that Maths is hard but, the thing is because I never had much to do, I studied all about this beforehand. I lay my head on my desk and gazed outside the window.
That’s when a certain midget came to mind and a sense of guilt stabbed at me. I wasn’t being fair last night, I was just thinking of myself. I sighed.
If only I could see her again….
….A whisper attacked my right ear. “Wow, you seem soooo bored!”
“Ahhh!” I literally fell from my chair and the commotion caused the class to look my way. I glanced up and there standing above me was the ghost girl, “W-What are- Why are you here!?” I squealed.
“Who are you talking to? Are you okay?” Mii chan held out her hand and pulled me up. “Are you okay?” she repeated, worry and sincerity in her voice.
“Thanks Miichan, I’m fine…” I took a quick glance around me. The ghost was nowhere to be found.
I sat back on my seat and once again the class focused on the teacher. I decided to give Akimoto sensei my attention but to my dismay something else caught my attention. The ghost girl was sitting on my desk, her hands placed on top of a one piece manga on my desk.
“Yo! Um…I never got your name.” The girl said.
I rolled my eyes. “I can’t see the board, will you well move?”
“You were bored anyways.”
“Why are you back?” I whispered, with slight irritation.
“I want you to help me.” She pleaded.
“I told yo-“
At the blink of an eye the ghost girl disappeared from my sight and an awful sound emitted from the black board.
Screech
Screech I looked towards the board and saw the ghost girl scratching the board with her nails.
“Stop.” I murmured covering my ears.
“STOP!!!!” I screamed louder. “Fine! You win!”
The sound stopped and I opened my shut eyes to see all eyes on me. My face became hot from embarrassment and in the background I could see the ghost girl waving at me and grinning.
Stupid. She is downright irritating.
“Maeda-san! You haven’t been listening to me at all today, and now you interrupt the class with your unnecessary shouting? This is only your second day and yet you are already setting a bad example for the school. This is unacceptable!”
I nodded quietly, my head bowed in shame. “I’m sorry.”
Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yours That was the worst day of my life, stupid ghost kid.
“Will you stop following me?! Because of you, everyone things I have a problem and Akimoto sensei hates me.”
“I’m sorry...so can you he-“
I sighed. “Fine, I’ll help you leave this place. Faster the better.”
The midget didn’t seem to be affected by my inconsiderate words which I almost wanted to take back. “Thank you so much…um…”
“Maeda Atsuko.”
The midget beamed. “Thank you Atsuko”
Wait…she’s calling me by my first name? We aren’t even acquaintances, let only friends. The ghost girl floated a bit ahead of me, her back was facing me. Her voice shivered.
“I-I know this is selfish of me to ask this of you since you don’t even know me, but you are my only hope…so thank you for choosing to help me. Sorry for everything I’ve done.” Takahashi-san turned back to me, her eyes were gleaming with tears that fell like streams but her smile was as bright as the hope she said I was.
“I’m sorry…for my selfishness as well. It wasn’t fair for me to just reject you without thinking of you. Sorry for being so insensitive. Takahashi-san.”
From the side street I could hear a mother and a child.
“Mum, that girl’s talking to herself.”
“Shhh, don’t look. Just keep walking.”
A sweatdrop fell from my forehead and I groaned.
“Takamina.”
“Hai?”
“Everyone calls me Takamina. So I want you to call me that, since Takahashi sounds too distant. Actually you can even call me Minami. I don’t mind at all!”
“Takamina…more like Bakamini.” I laughed which caused the other girl to pout and complain about the meaning of the name I gave her.
“I’m not that short…nor am I stupid…Mou!” the shorter girl pouted and I found it quite adorable.
“But…Atsuko…really..thank you.” She smiled.
I smiled back and closed the distance between us as I stretched my arms to give her an embrace…
But…
My hands went straight through her. I couldn’t touch her…my hands were cold.
Then like lightning, my mind snapped. This was all real. This girl had lost her life at such a young age. It wasn’t a joke, wasn’t a dream. This girl was sincere all along, and yet I casted her out, rejecting her wish with such harshness.
“Haha” The midget laughed. “You see, you can’t touch me, I’m a ghost after all.”
How can you laugh so carelessly? Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yours We were both sitting on top of my bed and discussing the upcoming plans in order for Takamina to return to heaven. Apparently, although living organisms can’t touch her, inanimate items can.
“So what do we do to get you back to heaven?”
“Well…I have regrets…”
“And they are?”
Takamina grinned anxiously and scratched her cheeks. “I have no idea…”
“That’s helpful…” I sarcastically commented.
“But..” the midget rummaged her jacket pockets and brought out a note. “I got this when I returned here.”
I took the note and on it was apparently a hint, I’m guessing.
#1 Perverted problems I grimaced at the words set in front of me. “Takamina, you have perverted problems?”
“Me? No I don’t think so…but maybe secretly I do? Who knows?” She shrugged and chuckled.
I glared at her. "You know, you aren't taking this really seriously..." The midget stopped laughing and contemplated for a bit.
“Wait…perverted…squirrel…YUKO! That note’s talking about Yuko!!!” The midget said as she punched her hand in the air.” Everyone calls her perverted. But everyone loves her.”
“So, when did this perverted business first start?”
“She was always perverted but…she was famous for it after what happened 2 years ago when she first met Haruna…”
“You think sneaking into the boy’s changing room and watching them change is appropriate?” Takamina cried
“Oi! It’s normal to be interested in guys! Unlike you who’s asexual and not interested in anyone. You’re not even human!”
“You’re a pervert.”
“Am not.”
“Yes you are.”
“Am not!”
“Yes you are.”
“Am n-Oh my…” Yuko licked her lips as Mariko senpai approached them, her arms linked to one of the most beautiful girls Yuko has ever encountered.
“Takamina, Yuko, what’s up?” the short hair model smirked. “Jealous of my new girlfriend.”
“G-G-G-Girlfriend?!?!?!” Yuko blared, her eyes widening as she slapped her cheeks.
“Ah, congrats Mariko sama, um…”
“Kojima Haruna.”
“Kojiharu senpai?”
“Nope, she’s the same age as you guys.”
“Kojiharu san” Takamina finished as she shook hands with the tall girl.
“You’re short.” Kojiharu bluntly stated as she pat the girl’s head. Takamina glared at the airhead girl and sighed. “Why would you tell me something so obvious?”
“GIRLFRIEND?” Yuko repeated, but this time louder. “GIRLFRIEND?!”
“Shush!” Mariko sama pat the girl’s head and gave her a slight push resulting in the squirrel losing her balance and falling on Takamina who pushed the girl back up and succeeded but instead she fell on top of the ‘girllfriend.’
Yuko screamed. “AHHHHHH”
Takamina landed right on top of Kojiharu’s breast and just to give everyone free service, especially Yuko, Kojiharu’s skirt was lifted and her white…erotic panties were shown.
The midget got up and Mariko helped her girlfriend up. “Sorry Kojiharu.” Takamina bowed and apologized. She turned to Yuko and was about to ask Yuko why she had screamed but instead encountered a pale Yuko with a bleeding nose.
“Is Oshima..okay?” Kojipa asked.
“I-I’m okay…I’ve got an illness…hahaha.” The squirrel replied pinching her nose desperately.
“Yeah.” Takamina snickered as she handed the squirrel a packet of tissues. “An illness called perversion.”
____________
“Stupid Midget! Why would you purposely fall on her!?! I bet you wanted to feel her, you bum!” Yuko pinched her nose again, just to stop the potential nosebleed.
Takamina slapped her forehead. “For the last time, it was your fault and it wasn’t on purpose!!!”
“You- Wait…” Yuko whispered as she held Takamina’s wrist and pulled her towards the gym changing rooms. “I just wanna look.”
“At the boys again?”
“No…um, at the girls…um…I swear what I’m doing is normal.” Yuko tiptoed towards the door of the changing rooms and peeked inside.
“Yes…because peeking into a girl’s changing room in order to find Mariko sama’s girlfriend changing is totally normal and acceptable.” Takamina sarcastically deadpanned.
“You don’t know anything, asexual midget!” Yuko cried as she desperately scanned her eyes around the changing room.
Disappointed with the view she was given, the perverted squirrel opened the door slightly bigger until she could see each and single one of the girls.
“Lunch is nearly over, should we –“ Takamina started before Yuko rudely shushed her.
"You don't even know if she's in this class..."
“I wanna see…her” Yuko whined as she opened the door wider to get a better view.
“Um…you’re not even peeking anymore. Yuko, the door is fully open.”
The girls in the changing screamed as they covered their half naked bodies with their clothes and bags. Yuko put her arms up in defense.
“I-I-I wasn’t peeking or anything. I just wanted to see something.”
Takamina couldn’t help but facepalm herself.
“PERVERT!!!!!!!!!!” “And that is the story of her nickname.” Takamina explained.
I held my stomach and laughed so hard that tears started to form in my eyes. “That’s actually kinda cute.”
I sat up properly and looked at Takamina who gave a sad smile as she looked up into the ceiling as it she was reminiscing her joyful days before….this happened.
I patted the girl on the head and smiled. “I’ll talk to Yuko tomorrow, and let’s get your desire fulfilled.”
Atsuko, no matter where I am, my heart is yours“A ghost huh?” I mumbled to myself as I snuggled inside my blankets. I looked at my hands, the hands that tried to touch Takamina.
Warm tears cascaded from my eyes as I recalled the sorrowful expression adorned on her beautiful face.
“Takamina.”
