01: When you told me I was a liar.[Present]
Yamamoto Sayaka felt like it was the end of the world. The pain she’s suffering through is indescribable. It’s already being such a long time, yet still, she was given no time to breath. All she could hear is the tapping and gliding of shoes on the timber material below her and the members. Honestly, she probably felt like collapsing more than anyone else but being the ‘captain’ that’s not a smart move. She just looked at everyone behind her through the mirror that was built in the walls as the music echoed loudly through the room. The rest looks just as dead.
Silence. Everyone stayed in their ending positions waiting for their instructor to end this rehearsal. No one even dared to breath because of the fear that the instructor will take it as imperfection during a concert. It’s equivalent an orchestra, where the players can’t move their bows after a piece. One inch and picky conductors or viewers will find it a disruption that ruins everything. No sounds were made in the dance room for exactly seven seconds, before the instructor clapped her hands. “Okay, this will be the end for today”
Everyone stood upright and bowed to the dance instructor. “Thank you,” the group of girls said in unison. They huddled up and walked to their belongings in silence as well. No one wanted to speak within the presence of the strict instructor. Just as everyone grabbed their bags and bottles, they hurried out and walked a few meters distance from the practice room. All the members looked back and saw no commotion. They all turned to face the front before heaving a sigh.
“That was deadly man,” one of the younger members, Kinoshita Haruna, said with her arms crossed behind her head. “I wonder what she’s like with her husband…”
“I know right,” Ogasawara Mayu said as she jumped next to Haruna. “She must be the like those alpha females in a relationship. I’d hate to have a girlfriend like her,” she said with shivers just imagining a life with someone like the instructor.
“Hey, she’s probably just like that for work” Sayaka said as she hit the two girls across the head. “Plus, there were times where she was nice and encouraging”
“Ah, Sayaka, always defending others” Watanabe Miyuki said from behind. “I wish she’d do that for me though…” she said playfully.
Sayaka turned around and cleared her throat. “I’m just trying to tell you guys that not everyone’s how you perceive them to be”
Miyuki just raised her eyebrows. “Yeah, yeah. I never get such protection from you… I wonder why?” she jumped onto Sayaka and went on her tippy toes to whisper in the slightly older girl’s ear. “Could it be you’re too shy?”
Sayaka blushed. “No, if I needed to then of course I’d protect you”
“Oh... Saya-Man has appeared” Mayu said from the front with Haruna. “You two would actually make a cute couple,” she stated casually, as Haruna nodded in agreement beside her.
Miyuki just looked at Sayaka, and Sayaka looked back. Their eyes met and the two of them blushed. “There’s no way I could be her girlfriend” Miyuki said as she looked away and rushed to Mayu’s side. “I have you”
Sayaka just continued to walk quietly and watched Mayu and Miyuki’s interactions from behind. She sighed. “True… You can’t be with me” her whisper disappeared within the laughter from the rest of the girls. No one heard her hopelessness and suffocation. She had no more routes; she was at a dead end. If only she didn’t get tied into this emotion called love, and get tangled up in it.
Miyuki quickly looked back at Sayaka, her eyes softened at the empty figure. The older girl just walked slowly behind the group, looking towards the ground, thinking perhaps. Miyuki wouldn’t know what Sayaka was really doing though, maybe spacing out. But, that option was erased immediately when Sayaka looked up and caught Miyuki’s eyes. That bitter smile she gave made Miyuki cringe inside.
“You liar…” Miyuki whispered.

[Past]
“Sayaka, you pay!” the younger members shouted with smirks on their faces as they jumped up and down, trying to scam off their leader.
“Eh?” Sayaka looked at them surprised. “Why do I have to pay for your dinner?” she already started to take out her wallet though, she’s always had a soft spot for the members. They were family to her and she cared for them all deeply. The others just giggled at Sayaka’s surrender. “Fine…” Sayaka said.
Miyuki just watched from the distance, before making her way over to Sayaka. She took out her wallet too and handed her around the amount that needed to be paid, maybe a bit more. “Here, you still need to save up for your grandma’s hospital fees right? You shouldn’t be too kind, there are times where you need to let go”
Sayaka just looked at the usually cheerful girl and politely took the money. “Thanks…” she counted the money and handed a bit back. “But, I’ll still pay for some. I’d feel bad using your money”
Oddly, Miyuki felt a rush of frustration. “It’s not even you who should be paying” she said her usual carefree voice vanishing into thin air. “I know you’re the leader and all, but sometimes you’re being too generous. What’s more important, a bunch of kids trying to save money for a DVD or your grandma’s health?”
There was silence for a second before Miyuki just grabbed the money she gave to Sayaka and paid it herself. After receiving the receipt and smiling with a slight bow to the cashier, she paced herself casually back to Sayaka’s side. “Here, have the receipt. If, you’re that worried pay me back after the procedures your grandma still needs”
“Ah…” was the only thing that came from Sayaka’s mouth.
“You shouldn’t take all the responsibilities. Even if it’s not me, you should rely on others sometimes” Miyuki looked at Sayaka with all seriousness, different from her typical self. “Everyone has their breaking points. Even you and me…”
“You and me…?” Sayaka did question that last part, why the specifics? Are they in a critical moment of their career right now? No, she thinks that every moment is somewhat critical and Miyuki even agreed on that. She soon dismissed it and turned to the group. “Okay, let’s go then!”
Everyone cheered and left the restaurant. “Ah, that was fulfilling” Yamada Nana, the eldest said with a large exhale. “Nice restaurant, we should get coupons”
“Like an old lady” Fukumoto Aina commented from the side, only to be met with a fatal elbow to the side. “Hey, that hurt you know”
“That’s the point” Nana just laughed and turned to Sayaka. “Hey, I’ll head home myself then. My parents want me back earlier today”
“Cool” Sayaka said.
“Me too, since I need to go to Nara” Aina said. “Miyuki, coming with me?” she asked since they both lived in the same city. They usually go to rehearsal together if they happened to be in Nara at the same time, but sometimes Miyuki would be in Tokyo rehearsing for Team B, so they don't get the chance to meet up. Miyuki’s schedule really is hectic; Aina really admires her organization skills and it’s no different for Sayaka. They’re both amazing.
“Ah, it’s okay. I’ll stay with Sayaka tonight. Help her take care of the kids” Miyuki responded with a warm smile.
“Okay then, bye” Aina waved her farewell and caught up to Nana who was already well ahead of her. “Hey, wait!” she shouted.
The rest of the group just chuckled at the scene. “Well, then let’s get you guys home,” Sayaka said with her hands clasped together. Miyuki nodded beside her. The older girl shoved the youngsters and told them to hurry up, in case their parents were displeased with her caretaking and wants to hunt her down for causing concerns. Confrontations were never her thing, she’d always be the one who gives in first and apologizes even if she did nothing wrong. It’s just a bad habit of hers.
“Hurry up!” Sayaka yelled.

Why was she reading every sign that passed her sight of vision, she wondered. The silence was comfortable because Sayaka and Miyuki’s relationship was quite close. So, silences were always comfortable. But, like any silence it’s dead boring.
Fast Delivery.
Sayaka nearly scoffed at the sign she just saw. That’s what they all say, she thought. The last time she wanted something delivered through a small delivery company like the one she just saw, it took months for it to just get tracked. She swore that the little company forgot that her package was even sent because once they tracked it down, it was in their storage. They just explained that some technical difficulties occurred, but she knew it was rubbish.
Christmas decoration sale, she read.
Christmas is coming up she nearly forgot. “Hey, you doing anything for Christmas?” Sayaka asked turning to Miyuki who was slowly dozing off onto her shoulder. She just watched the girl slowly fall asleep. Miyuki’s head bobbed up and down, side to side, until it finally softly landed on Sayaka’s shoulder.
Sayaka was slowly mesmerized by the face of the sleeping girl and once again felt that perfection like her wasn’t allowed. It was unfair, because it traps people into a maze of charm. Her eyes slowly trailed down the younger girl’s flawless facial features to the lips. There was no one on the carriage they occupied, it was a women only train and not many women stay out until this time.
She gulped as a temptation rushed through her system. The lips looked so soft. Her eyes were stuck, and her urges became stronger. She slowly, subconsciously leaned in towards the younger girl without moving her should and just her neck so that Miyuki’s sleep won’t be disturbed. Sayaka found herself only a few inches apart and paused for a second, her lips parted a bit and she leaned in more. And, little by little their lips met.
Time seemed to have stopped just to capture this moment. Sayaka backed off and sat up, processing what just happened. She didn't mean to kiss her friend, but it just happened. Glancing back, she sighed in relief. Miyuki was still sound asleep.
‘And, just like that… I kissed you’ ~
[Present]
Sayaka’s eyes snapped open, and she found herself staring at Miyuki who was right in front of her. Miyuki just pouted, “You should respond faster next time. It took like a minute to hear me”
“Sorry…” Sayaka said.
“Hey…” Miyuki began with a soft voice. “Do you love me?”
Sayaka froze. Her brain just blocked every thought of telling the truth away. “Why the sudden question?” she asked with a nervous smile.
“Just wondering…”
“Why would you start thinking about something like that?” Sayaka continued to reply with questions. But, soon her confidence of running away slipped from her grasp. Miyuki’s expression fell and the atmosphere around them dropped. The empty train station didn’t help back it feel any better either. Sayaka just closed her eyes. “… No, I don’t”
Miyuki just nodded, as the train she was waiting for started to stop in the station. She looked at the incoming train and spun around. Sayaka watched the beauty walk towards the edge of the platform to board the train. Miyuki entered and the door shut behind her. She looked at Sayaka one last time and opened her mouth. Even if, she was indoors, Sayaka could hear her loud and clear.
Liar… Then, deep down buried within her subconscious a whisper echoed in Sayaka’s mind.
‘She knew…’~
“You asked me if I loved you…
I said, that I didn’t know.
But, if I said yes...
Will you love me back?”
