CHAPTER 14 (Part 2): When Love is Not Enough
STUDENT COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS“KYAAAAAAA~” excitement filled the air across the room as Milky announced her upcoming plan for the week.
“3-DAY VACATION YEEEEEEY!!!” everybody rejoiced as the girl affirmed.
“Student Council vacation it is!” Takamina sensei-affirmed.

Mayu POVEveryone got excited for our first ever vacation. Original members said they haven’t been in one since the council was only in a small scale before until we started popping out one by one since the time my father decided to transfer me here for quite some time. Thanks to Milky’s connections, she finally got a reason to seat back and relax for the mean time she’s staying here and also to celebrate our welcoming party. But hearing such good news gave Yuki a sudden frown… well because she’s not part of the council technically.
“You know Yukirin~ just say so, I won’t come” I said as I was ducking myself in the front of sulking Yukirin.
“no! no! of course you should, It’s also your welcoming party so~ it’s fine” she detested.
“You don’t look like it though” I gave her a wry smile. She pouted even more.
“3 days is it?” she slightly raised her face to look at me.
“un”
“it shouldn’t be long~ sou, I’ll wait for you then” she smiled.
The night before the vacation….It was a chaos inside our little poor Apartment since the three decided to start packing their stuff. Jurina and Rena packing unbelievable Machinery…
“Hey! We’re not going to war!!!” God forbid their luggage. Even Rena made it sure to fill her stock of melonpan good for a year already. Sigh. On the other hand, Yuko fitting so many swimwears that eventually messed up all over the floor.
“Oshiriko-chan!! We’re not joining swimming competition!!!”
Ugh. “These three really?!” very unlike me who managed to fit all my stuff in one bag. Everything I need. I’m ready.
“I wonder how’s Yuki~” I decided to send her a message.
“[Me]Bakaarin~ I’m all set ^O^ how are you doing?”It has been few minutes since I sent her the message and yet I received no replies. I didn’t want to rush into conclusions Maybe she’s just asleep already. I decided to let it go.
Time flew fast. It’s morning already. God forbid these three racoons that didn’t even go to sleep just to pack their precious stuff. We hopped into our special service that will take us to our special destination.
To Milky’s house Resort in Osaka. The place is secluded from the town proper, designed by known professionals, truly the house stands out with its old-fashioned style outside on top of that, the scenery from the deck was breath-taking. Every detail of the place is sure the fruit of the handwork of hundreds of people. They need not to know though; it is actually owned by the Watanabe’s Milky only said it’s owned by a family friend. My mother used to bring me there before. Seeing the place made me feel nostalgic with my childhood memories. Splendid view from my room.
“How I wish you’re here~”Everyone seemed enjoying the treat scanning the receiving area, that’s when I realized I was alone.
“You okay Mayu-chan?” as Koji appeared suddenly by my side. I nodded in reply. How long has it been since I talked to him like this? It’s been months. Come to think of it, he’s the first person I ever talked to in school and my very first friend; he even helped me the first time we met. He’s such a good guy. I totally forgot about him, my world revolved around with my personal matters… It’s so good to have him back.
“wanna take a walk?” he suggested, It wasn’t a bad idea at all. I knew in the first place that the place is such a sight. I accepted. We traced the lone shoreline, walking with barefoot.
“Everyone seems enjoying nee~?” he said breaking the silence. I turned on him and smiled.
“nee Koji-kun~”
“Yes?”
“You know I like Yuki right?” I turned my eyes on the sun setting. He did the same.
“Yeah~ I knew it since the beginning…” but instead of being sad, I saw him smile.
“If it’s you, I think I won’t have to worry about Yuki…” he turned on me and patted my shoulder.
“I just wanted you to know I feel the same…..” I said firmly and looked down.
“What do you mean?”
“If ever,….. something happens, I’ll leave Yuki to you” I felt my eyes getting moist. It was one of the few statements I least wanted to make. I looked up to prevent myself from crying. Controlling my every breath I take. He looked at me with worried eyes.
“In that case, I won’t have to worry….there I said it” I looked at him. It was such a relief to have him beside me.
“I’m glad I met you Mayu…” he said.
“Ara~ its dark already, let’s head back” as he led me back to the house.

It’s already dinner time. We all gathered and shared the festive meal Milky prepared for us. Well, not really her. Her minions did and that includes the 4 poor creatures God made namely Yuko, Jurina, Rena and Sasshi while we, the rest, enjoyed every bit of it full-heartedly when suddenly we heard the bell rang. It was a private residence so we were the only ones in the resort. Milky’s kind enough to open the door for us as the hostess of the night.
Everyone was shocked who it was. It was Yuki standing beside Milky. Everyone welcomed the new guest in shock but happiness won over.
“Whoa! Yuki-chan! What a surprise I bet Mayu-chan’s happy!” as Jurina appeared by my side hooking her arm on my shoulder. I smiled at her. She did the same and sat beside me. Everything went well; just that I felt Yuki’s acting weird since last night. She hasn’t sent me any messages ever since and yet she appeared in our trip She’ll only speak if someone asks her, she didn’t bother open a single topic.
“nee~ Yukirin, you okay?” I asked her. She just smiled and nodded. When suddenly Milky appeared and asked her for a word. She just obliged accordingly and left me for a while.

Milky POV
Along the shoreline….It was a cold night and yet I felt the warmth of love I had with my new friends. I made the right decision coming here.
I am happy.
Today, I decided to free myself. I know I wouldn’t regret anything because I know I gave my all, it was a good fight. But, I reached my limits…
“I’m moving forward~”“Inviting you here doesn’t mean I approve you for Mayu” I frankly said to the girl in front of me. Kashiwagi Yuki. She just nodded.
“But~ I can see she’s happy, I’ve never seen her like that before” I turned my back on her facing the tranquil ocean.
“Thank you Milky~” I turned my eyes on her. She smiled at me.
“I love Mayu, more than anyone~” I told her with my sincerest feelings I’ve always secluded inside, Feelings that never reached her, Feelings that were never answered.
“Same here~”
“sou~ guess that’s it, I just wanted to hear from you~” I offered my hand to her .She moved closer and reached for my hand.
I shook her hand and moved ahead. When suddenly…
“Mayu cares for you….a lot, I know~” Yuki muttered.
“Yeah, it’s good to hear…you take care of Mayu” controlling my emotions once again as I left the area as fast as I could before I broke down in tears.
It was the night, I completely accepted my loss. The courage I had when I handed her my dreams was all I got. Left with nothing, I’ll face tomorrow with a new beginning and yet feeling proud of myself, making the right decision. I promised myself that night, I won’t regret anything.

Mayu POVIt was almost sleeping time. Everything in my room hasn’t changed at all. The furniture, the arrangement… even the smell, stayed the same. I closed my eyes and I’m seeing my mother is still with me, playing with my stuffed toys. Days I treasured in my heart.
“Mom, I’m home~ your daughter is back~ I wish you’re here” I moved closer to my bed, the bed my mother personally bought for me. I sat on it and brushed the familiar sheet. I slowly laid my back.
“I’m home~”When Suddenly I heard someone knocking the door.
“come in~”
It was Jurina. My beloved friend.
“Feeling at home again?” she said as she sat beside me.
“Yeah”
“Mayu-chan, wanna take a walk? I missed the garden” she excitedly suggested and stood up reaching for my hand.
“Me too~” I held her hand.
We slowly took our steps while reminiscing the past.
“Mayu-chan! You remember the swing….” As she plastered a wide grin on her face. I chuckled as soon as I got what she meant.
“Yeah, the swing where Milky fell and went tantrums~ haha” we both burst into laughter. We quickly went to the area where it was; to our surprise two people are already using it.
It was Yuki with Koji.
I stopped and stared at the two. Jurina just looked down.
“Let’s~”
“No~ wait” I interrupted Jurina blocking my arm on her.
“Just let them be, It’s fine~” I assured her.
I never thought I’ll come to this point. Just seeing her with somebody else hurts. I couldn’t imagine living without her by my side. In fact, it was never an option for me. But, meeting her and even accepting her to my life made me grow even more, I won’t be selfish. It’s a decision I’ll make for myself, for her, her happiness. If time comes, I won’t conceal her in our childish dreams, I’ll accept the reality without any regrets.
“mou~ Mayu-chan hang in there~” Jurina patted my shoulder.
“They really suit each other nee?” I asked without looking to Jurina. She just looked down.
“You can’t be….” Jurina turned on me in awe.
“Yeah, I wished for a happy ending~ in fact everyone does”I said almost whispering. Jurina held me softly, resting her chin on my head.
“I’m proud of you~ Mayu” she took a deep breath. The familiar warmth I’ve been holding onto since the beginning.
“I’m always here Mayu~” that moment I wasn’t able to contain every feeling I had inside. I let it all out; crying on Jurina’s shoulder eased the pain.
“I felt safe~”“Let it out, I’ll stand by your side~ no matter what”

Yuko POVEverything has changed since we went to Japan. Everyday seemed very special. Everyday didn’t seem like work, which it was supposed to be, Taking care of Watanabe Mayu, the daughter of the Strongest Nation’s leader, His only daughter. The vulnerable child I’ve been looking out for since the beginning. I was with her both her ups and downs. She has grown a lot.
“Mayu-chan, I’m proud of you nee~”I was reminiscing the past when a sudden figure went close to me…
It was Haruna.
“You okay Yuu-chan?” She asked me as she sat beside me along the shoreline.
“Of course you’re here nyaaa~<3 “ I said as I cling on her arm, playful smile that transformed into a relaxed smile.
“nee~ It’ getting colder, let’s go back” as she pushed me a little.
“No~ let’s stay for a little bit longer” I held her closer, resting my head on her shoulder. A time like this never fails in making my heart race. I may have looked perverted most of the time, maybe a little too much. But I’m certain I’ve grown to like her even more.
The resonance of the waves sufficing the calmness my heart needed that time…
“a little bit longer…..Haruna~” Instead of answering she placed her head on top of mine.
“I’m glad I met you, NyanNyan~”

Atsuko POV“The day when Mayu joined our club, everything changed….”
“ nee Minami~?” I asked the girl sitting beside me, the girl dearest to my heart. The girl who gave up everything just to be with me.
“un…I guess we are more happy now” she smiled at me.
“Minami~ thanks for staying with me” I smiled at her, the smile only she can witness. She held my hand and intertwined our fingers. The simple gesture was more than enough for me to know how she’s feeling towards me. Even words won’t suffice.
“aaahhh. I missed doing this~ teehee <3” I said as I swayed our hands together, giggling on how child-like it was.
“Till the end Acchan~”

Sasshi POVSeeing her in her true self, was the least thing I’d wanted to see and yet it has been my dream all along for her.
“I wanted you to be happy~ Miyuki” words that were never expressed. All I can do is to stand by her and support her. I ‘m contented just staying by her side. I was never pushed on doing things for her; it has been my decision since the beginning.
From doing all her school works up to picking up the pieces of candies she’s throwing. The times I felt I’m handy, it was the best days of my life.
“Even if you pursue Mayu, I’d still be happy standing by your side, cause It’s where I should be~”I saw her sitting alone along the far-end side of the shoreline, shielding herself from the cold breeze. I approached her and covered her with my prepared jacket and sat beside her.
“You know what the funny thing is?” she chuckled as she drew a heart shape on the sand.
“What is it?” I turned on her.
“I was expecting for you to come~” she giggled on her revelation.
“ahh, haha~ yeah I was looking for you”
“I…..”
I looked at her, waiting for her words….
“Finally let go of Mayu~” she whispered as she turned her gaze into the illuminating moon along the seabed. It’s as if every word that came out struck through my heart. I felt her pain….the pain of rejection…rejection of her sincere undying love.
I felt the same.
“But~ I promise I won’t regret anything…” she said obviously at the verge of crying. I couldn’t take it anymore; I pulled her for a hug. Consoling her was the least task I’d do…
“Don’t worry, I’ll always stay….” She cried even more hearing my words and slowly answered my hug.
“You’re all I have Sasshi~”

Sayaka POV“Sou where’s your baby underling~?” I asked as I approached the lone melonpan monster by the dining table. She didn’t even bother to look at me.
“She’s with Mayu-chan…” she answered calmly which was much unexpected.
“Why so sad? You jealous? Is she your girlfriend? Hehe” trying to irritate her a bit. Finally, earning a terrifying gaze from the melonpan monster made me feel relieved. She hasn’t changed at all.
“She’s not my girlfriend, we –are-just-working-period” she said firmly as she attended once again her melonpan.
“Sou~ so where’s your little cuddly prince?” raising her brow on me.
“GRRR~”“She’s with Chiyu and Tomochin…” I let out a sigh.
“So who’s jealous now ehem!?” she asked mischievously. The most irritating part is, she hit the bull’s eye. A sudden turn of events….
“Ara~ I think we shouldn’t fight at least for this trip, we are bound to enjoy” as I held my glass of juice.
“You started it! Hmf, but you’re right” Rena staring at her food.
“But you see, I think I wouldn’t be able to stand by myseld if Jurina wasn’t here…”
I was shocked with her frank statement. It wasn’t like her at all. I was wrong; she changed a lot since the time we were together at the camp. She’s a lot better.
“It’s my pleasure, knowing you trust me after all…..General” I smiled at her, finally being able to recognize her as a comrade.
“I am…”

Yui POV“nee Yui-chan? Isn’t this trip awesome?” the girl asked me cheerfully while trying so hard to make a sand castle, the girl I held dear since childhood. Shimazaki Haruka.
“It is~” I answered staring at the hard-working figure.
The funniest thing for me is the irony of me, helping other people to confess their feelings to the one they love, when I can’t even do it for myself. I guess I’ve always been a coward. I pity myself every time we succeed in every case. Just being with her makes me happy, I’m contented with that.
“I guess you’re the most crucial case, Paruru~”“nee~ you okay?” Paruru turned on me with worried eyes. I just nodded. She stopped.
“Thank you Yui-chan…” she stared at her masterpiece.
“For?”
“For not getting tired of me…” she turned my eyes on me. I could feel her sincere feelings.
“I won’t, I promise….” I smiled at her as I fixed her almost falling glasses.
