Chapter 2 : Heavy past6am, outsideEvery morning, Minami was running for 30 minutes in town to wake her up and to stay healthy. Her ambition was to create a crew and win a dance contest.
She was helping people (girls) who had been harrassed, she was protecting them, helping them at school and teaching them dance so they could be a part of her crew.
They were 15 now, the 8 girls that were really close to her, and seven others, that only came for practice.
It was well organized : Sayka and Jurina were in charge of the « sporty training », Oya was doing all the music arrangements, Rie and Rino were writting the lyrics, Miichan was creating the outfits, and Yuko was... distracting them.
Still running in the quiet town (only because of the early hour), Minami was thinking about her meeting with Atsuko yesterday. She had this burning anger into her eyes, like she wanted to kill the midget with her hands. Takamina knew that the tall girl hated her, and she understood it.
Flasback, 4 years ago, on TV« We found this morning, a young woman killed by shot guns. She was the famous yakuza Maeda Kaoru, it seems like it's a revenge from another clan. She left behind a 14 years old girl, and an husband. »End of flashbackMinami's father was one of her rival, and the last time she had been seen, he was with her. The girl had really suffered from this, everybody was talking about his dad, and each time she asked him if he was guilty, he walked away, with a sad face.
Tired of this, Takamina had made the choice to live on her own, far from this. But she understood that Atsuko that Atsuko couldn't live with this. Her father hadn't been worried by the police because he was a yakuza, so Minami had no proof he was innocent.
She didn't want to fight the tall girl, she was right to be mad. Plus, she was gorgeous, and smart.
No way she could hit her... !
10am, schoolyard« Cap', there is this girl I like, but she doesn't even know I exist. And... she's kind of forbidden... » pouted Jurina.
« Forbidden ? Who's she ? Is she married ?^^ »
« No!^^ It's... Rena-san » she sighed.
« Oh, I see. Well, you just have to introduce yourself, see if she seems interested. Nobody is forbidden, you know. »
« Really ?! Okay, I'm gonna try then ! »
« Good, Juri-chan » smiled the small girl before noticing the fight going on in front of them.
A tall guy was punching a girl on the floor, kicking her so hard, and everybody was watching.
« Don't ever look at me bitch ! You're just a slut ! » he was screaming, hitting her.
Minami dropped her bag and walked toward him.
« OY!!! Stop this ! » she screamed.
« What ? Who are you little cunt ? » frowned the guy.
Minami was so angry that she didn't notice Atsuko, who was watching at the scene with big interest.
« I said stop this bastard! Leave her alone ! »
She helped the girl standing up and took her next to her friends.
« Who do you think you are ?! Come here ! »
« Don't you know that you're not supposed to hit girls ? »
« I don't fucking care !! »
He jumped on the midget to smash her, but she was really fast. She avoided him, hit him on the back of the neck, then pushed him in the face three times and finally kicked him in the jaw.
The big guy fell on the ground, really stunned. Blood was flowing from his nose.
Everyone was staring at the captain before dispatching.
Takamina came back to the girl.
« How are you ? Does it hurts ? »
« A little, but thank you very much. »
« What's your name ? » asked gently the midget.
« Nito Moeno »
« Okay, Nito-chan » she smiled. « Jurina is gonna take you to the infirmary so you could groom this wound, okay ? »
« Okay » she nodded.
« We'll discuss later. Take care »
« Did you see what my friend just did ? » asked Rino to a skinny guy.
« Y-Yes... »
« Well, don't come near Kitahara-san again or I'll do the same to you. Okay ? »
« H-Hai ! » he shivered, looking at his feet.
« Good »
She left him with a big smile on her face. She tried to look threatening but she was all laughing inside because of the poor guy's face.
Takamina needed to wash her hands stained with blood, so she went to the nearest restroom. She hated fighting, it wasn't in her character, but in this colleg, you had to do it if you wanted to survive. She had been doing many fights to survive and help other persons, and she remembered each of them, because each time she was hating it. She felt sorry for the one she was punching even if he was guilty. Nothing has to end in a fight...
« What do you say if I'm the one asking this guy to fight ? »
Atsuko was at the restroom door, with no expression on her face.
« Nothing. But if you need to punch someone, punch me » she said before leaving the room.
Yes she was angry, of course. She wasn't expecting Atsuko to do such a thing just to provoke her. But it was exclused to get mad, it didn't worth it. She was late for the maths class, and her friends were probably waiting for her anyway.
10.30am, maths classAtsuko was in a bad mood. She had done this thing under the state of anger, she was angry because this girl was resisting, she was here, and totally ignoring the fact that Atsuko was suffering. She was just asking for a fight, one, so she could let everything go, take revenge...
But something was wrong, she felt it, it was wrong. She was feeling wrong, for this girl, she seemed nice, and she had nothing to do with this... Takahashi-san was in the middle of it, fighting for her just because it wasn't fair...
« Sayaka, I have horrible cramps on my abs... » grumbled Yuko.
« It's good for you, midget^^ » she smirked.
Her eyes met Sae's, and they looked at each other for few seconds, it was weird but... good actually. Sayaka had already saw her, she was in the same class, and sometimes she was running by the riverside on the sunday morning. She seemed to be nice, and funny, but the circumstances weren't good to meet.
« Sorry for being late » said Minami coming into the classroom.
Atsuko looked at her, always wearing a hoodie, what was under... ?
During all the class, Minami only thought about the new choregraphy for the last song they had created. It was mostly electro rythms, mixed with more « idol » sounds
(If you guys had saw the remix of Uza from the Kouhaku Uta Gassen 2012, this is the kind of music they make). Oya sometimes succeeded in putting some « rap skit », because she loved rap.
The little cap' liked to draw, and usually she drawn the moves, to remember them, and sometimes the outfits.
12am, on the basketball field, schoolyard« Rino-chan, why Tetsuo is looking at you with this fear on his face ? » frowned Rie.
« Who ? » the girl was eating up her lunch.
« Tetsuo. The guy who talked to me me the other day. »
« Aah... Dunno, maybe he thinks I'm his real mom^^ »
« So... Anything to do with you ? » she saked, suspicious.
« Nope. Why do you care ? You're in love ? »
« No » she blushed « that's just weird »
« You're really cute when you blush, Rie-chan » she said, replacing one of her stroke of hair behind the shy girl's ear.
Rie blushed twice more, for a week now Rino was acting strange. They had always been close to each other, but now Rino was prevenant, protective and maybe jealous. Was there a chance... ?
Rie had always been attracted to Sasshi, but she was afraid to ruin their friendship, so she never told anything, plus she was a shy, not the kind of person to do the first step.
« And you ? Do you like a boy ? » she asked, innocently.
« Me? No^^ They're so immature and... ugly^^ I'm demanding^^ »
« Souka... »
« Aah... » said Sasshi feeding Rie with curry. « See, you don't need a boy, I'm feeding you^^ » she smirked.
Rie blushed one more time, her heart was melting hearing such a thing.
« Sayaka, what are you staring at ? »
« Eeh ? »
« I said, what are you staring at?^^ » laughed Oya.
«N-Nothing... » denied the athletic girl.
« She's looking at the tall boyish one over there » smirked Yuko.
« Really ? Sayaka is it true ? » asked Minami, smirking too.
« N-No, I mean, maybe... »
« Miyazawa-san, right ? She seems to be a nice girl, you should talk to her. It's about time that someone knows how great you are » smiled gently the captain.
They smiled at each other, they were really close friend, the person Takamina trusted the most.
« I will, thank you »
« Why do you always say nice words to Sayaka and not to me ?! Pouted Yuko.
« Because you're a noisy squirell ! » laughed the midget.
« And because you're not nice ! » added Miichan.
« Mou ! »
« Guys, don't fight » said Sayaka. « Yuko, do you want to go eat an hamburger with me tonight ? »
« YES !! »
« Good idea, but don't forget that tomorrow wa all practice at 2pm »
The group nodded and looked at Jurina and Nito, coming back from the infirmary.
« How do you feel, Nito-chan ? »
« Better, thank you »
« You're welcome, I couldn't stand this »
« Cap', she's really cute, can we take her in our crew ?? » asked Jurina with puppy eyes.
« ...Do you know how to dance ? »
« I already asked her ! She do ! And she's interested ! Say yes ! Say yes ! » she screamed, jumping all over.
Minami sighed and looked at Sayaka, it wasn't a bad idea after all, they needed more members.
« Why not... Come tomorrow at 2pm »
« Thank you very much » bowed Nito before leaving.
8.30pm, combini store It's quiet tonight at the store, Minami was in charge of filling the shelves.
She was daydreaming when she heard the doorbell ringing twice. The boss wasn't there today, so she was alone until 9pm. But it was almost always like that since it was a little shop, you didn't need to be two sellers.
She quickly reached the checkout when she saw that an old lady was waiting with a lot of food.
« Hello, miss. Do you want a bag ? »
« Yes, please »
She took one and put the food inside while she calculated the cost of it. But doing this, she saw someone behind the granny, it was... Atsuko. She was injured, bruises and blood on her cheeks, and her lower lip was swollen.
Minami couldn't help but stare at her, she knew the midget was working here, so why... ?
Atsuko was looking right into her eyes, like she was challenging her but... to do what ?
« 256 yen please miss » said Minami with a calm voice.
The old lady paid and left without a goodbye, while Atsuko dropped off a little bottle of water and a Snickers. Minami followed the old lady to close the door from the inside. It wasn't 9pm yet, but she couldn't let the tall girl like that.
She switched off the light and took Atsuko by the hand to bring her some bandages and desinfectant.
« I didn't ask you anything » said Aachan with a neutral voice. She seemed a little lost.
« I know » answered the little cap', washing the blood from Atsuko's cheeks and lips. « You shouldn't fight like this all the time... »
« Why do you care... ? »
« I don't, but it's a shame to ruin such a pretty face » shrugged the midget.
« Mind your own buisness » pouted Aachen.
« Of course... It's clean now, you can take your food and leave by the back door. Goodnight. »
Atsuko got up, still pouting, she gathered her unpaid stuff and left, vexed by the distant tone of Takamina.
11pm, Atsuko's house« Dad, did you eat already ? »
« No... I'm not hungry »
« How was work ? »
« Hm... »
It was the same empty discussion for four years now. Her dad was dragging his own body in the house and at work, with no expression and no energy.
He had been devastated by his wife's death. For ten years now, he was working as a taxi driver, and he had met Kaoru one day at work, she was in a really bad condition but she didn't want to go to the hospital so he had illed her at his house, and then...
She had told him right away who she was, but he didn't care, he loved her.
« I'm going to bed, goodnight dad »
« ... »
Atsuko couldn't stand this situation anymore. She loved her mom, they were really close, and since the day she's been killed, her life had became this empty hole in her heart. She wasn't even feeling anything. Anything expcept this pain and this anger when she was fighting.
Her friends were helping her to laugh and have fun again, it was better when she wasn't at home ;
She fell asleep thinking about Takahashi at the store. This girl was really mysterious...
Next day, 2pm, Minami's place« That's not good ! Miichan, focus ! »
« Sorry... »
« Sayaka and Jurina come at the front and THEN you do the three steps, okay ? »
Miichan nodded, they were practicing for 2 hours now and it was pretty hard. The new choregraphy was a real challenge, with more hip-hop moves, and Miichan was frankly bad at it.
Kasai was coming back from her cousin, and she was teaching Nito the moves but in a slower way. She was good at it, Minami felt relieved. The contest was only in two months and they barely knew the lyrics... Plus, they needed like 5 more members.
Honeslty she was looking for someone to be at the center, to shine and blow everything. Someone with charisme and skills...
The captain was really into dance and singing, but she wasn't interested in being the center of attention. So she needed someone to be.
« Oya, can you edit the track so everybody can have it on her phone and listen to it everyday, so it will be easier to remember ? »
« Yep, I'm on it ! »
« Miichan, I would like to talk with you about the outfit soon, I've drawn them yesterday »
They keep working until 6pm, then everybody went home, exhausted.
