First two matches of the Last 16 are:

Germany v Sweden
England v Ecuador

England looked very shaky yesterday. Their defence didn't seem to have a clue when it came to opposing setpieces. Add to that the fact that their star striker, Michael Owen was injured in the first 5 mins of the match, I seriously don't see England advancing beyond the Quarter Finals, when it's possible that they could play Argentina, but then, I never considered England as favourites for the cup anyway.

Whoa.

Ah, I didn't really have any hope for Japan in the first place, but I couldn't help but fire up after they bursted Brazil's bubble. It's too bad they got toyed with the whole second half. And Ronaldo finally woke up it seems.

Good game, Japan.

Actually the Croatia v Australia match was more entertaining than Brazil v Japan, I thought. Croatia were leading in the opening minutes, then the Aussies came back. Croatia led again then Australia gave everything they had to equalise. Both teams reduced to 10 men, and of course there was the controversial matter of Simunic being booked twice, but the referee had forgot the player was booked once before and they were still playing for seven or so minutes until the ref displayed Simunic a third yellow card that he was sent off. Croatia came close to scoring during that period also, which would be, as the commentators put it, 'the most controversial moment in football history'. Somehow I doubt that referree will be overseeing the final.

In a way, Australia being through to the next round is a big win for football. Aussie is going wild over a game they usually pay absolutely no attention to (except for foreigners ofcourse), they usually worry about the cricket, AFL, NRL, Rugby etc. Now, football is dominating Australian TV.
Ofcourse I really feel bad that japan didn't make a show, but in the end, some of the feel good television is kind of rubbing of on me. Maybe it's not so bad that Aussie are through...

I am glad Australia won. I didn't like some of the players in Croatia's squad. For a start off there was one guy who was waving his arms in the penalty box so much I thought he was playing volleyball. And then you get players who literally pushed the ref over a decision made against them! I was like, 'dude, seriously, do you want to be working at a McDonald's for the remainder of your life?'

feels bad for the japanese's goal keeper. those brazilians were firing shots after shots at him. i was very surprised they got the first goal. but then brazil was too crazy wit their ball handling.

i must feel good for ronaldo after scoring twice in the match. the critics can shut up now!

is it me or does it seems like brazil's goals are scored so effortless. the 2nd goal from ronaldo was just amazin. he basically stood just outside the box and took the angle and just shot it in.

c'mon aussies!

appropriate that controversy surrounded simunic, given that he's an aussie who chose to play for croatia cos he thought they'd have more international success: hands up how made the wrong decision, dude?

and i'm barracking for togo tonight: if france don't win, they're going home - and the french team has played so poorly (and their manager has wimped out of the tough decisions) they don't deserve to make it to the next round.

I never saw the game, but I heard Korea were complaining about one of the goals. Man, they were pretty close to advancing. O:

The Togo VS France game was half-bad. I watched it on and off and coincidentally caught it whenever there was a goal. What's up with the frenchies, really?
