Wow...there's loser...and there's mega loser and these folks are them^^.

It's ok to have an obsession, but to drag your kids into it without their consent...that's just wrong.

I think it's a great name. It's not like he's gonna use the full name all the time. And  he just have to say his name  and it'll be a good line to old chool scifi fangirls.

Kirk is the badass captain though. It's certainly better than being named "Spock" or "Quark", I imagine.

Geez, calm down Tyler, it ain't that bad. Like ctz said, it's not like he'll be introducing himself, going "Hi, I'm James Tiberius Kirk Weldy."  To most people he meets during his life, he'll just be "James Weldy".  Most people don't give a second thought to their middle names.

Now if you want to talk about forcing lame names on your kids, you gotta look towards the hippies. They gave their kids names like Ocean, Leaf, Sky, Orange, Song, Thunder, and Tree-Hugger.  And of course, there are African-American families who say they want to give thier kids "Afican" names, but then end up choosing something really bad like "Tréyquir" without thinking about how it actually sounds. (read it aloud and you'll get what I mean)

 you think that's bad? there's this one family, all the kids are boys and they all have the same 1st name. i forgot what it is so i'll use michael. it's like micheal  1, micheal 2, micheal 3, and so on (can't remember how many kids there are).

like JFC said, i'm pretty sure he's not gonna introduce himself with his whole name. as far as the nature names, there are some good ones, like jin. but Isis and Summer will always be the best names for girls imo

*thinks of those girls he had a crush on*

So when the mom wants to call a "specific" Michael, does she just use their last name too? :damnfunny

I don't think that's so bad... Actually It's the same thing as if parents give every child a same middle name and call them by their first names.

I don't know how it is in your place, but in Finland many people (including me) are called by their middle name. Although I don't think it's common to give children same names. I know two brothers who have a same middle name and their parents had an argument with a priest, because he didn't want to gave the younger brother the same middle name as the older brother had.

Yeah, that's not so bad.  Not like naming your kid "Judas" or "Mussolini" or "Osama" or whatever.   Remember how much of a pimp Captain Kirk was too.  He even hooked up with that green bitch.  I'm sorry, but that's just too far for me.  If the bitch is green, there's GOT to be something wrong with the pussy.

Ah Eddie Murphy, you slay me.

Well, that is kind of stupid, but at least the kid will have normal names to go by -- James or Kirk are both pretty reasonable names.  I do wonder why people give their kids unusual names like this though.  Kids will make fun of other kids for almost anything different they can find that isn't like the majority.  Giving them an unusual name is practically begging for mockery, it gives the other kids an easy starting place.  Well, I kind of assume the kid will go by James Weldy, which would be fine.  He'll probably end up only ever using the middle initials, James T. K. Weldy, and never tell people what it means.  Or he could end up getting a legal name change at some point in the future, but I think the kid will be fine as long as he never actually uses the middle names.

I think most of the people with "unusual" names like their names, at least when they're older.

I don't think unsual name is begging for mockery. A child doesn't need an unusual name to be mocked.
