You… You… Yes, you!!
Clueless Sat-Nite
Chapter Prize
Sae’s POV“Let’s have a date.”
Mayu stared at me like I’m a weirdo. Well, I don’t know, maybe I am. Hell! Who cares? I’m a popular weirdo by the way.
Mayu’s still staring at me intensely with those eyes. She’s not even blinking.
“You’ll get an eyesore if you keep doing that.” And I didn’t want something bad happen to those eyes. Alright, I admitted it. Her eyes are beautiful.
Mayu shook her head as her eyes blinking a few times as if she’s just awaken from a dream. A second later, she took a deep breath and said, “What did you just say?”
“Date. This Saturday. You and me.” Said I, trying o ignore that astonished expression of hers.
“Have you lost your mind?” retorted Mayu.
“If I do, will you go out with me?”
Now Mayu’s sighing, “I’m sorry, Miyazawa-san. Jun and I…”
“I know. “ I cut her sentence. “But you’re not official yet, right? Just give it a try and go with me.”
“It doesn’t… “
“And you remembered my name. That’s a good sign.” I cut her sentence again.
“But I…”
“Let’s meet up in front of the book store.” I don’t care how much I needed to cut her sentence as long as I could avoid the rejection.
“I’ll be there at 11.00. Don’t be late.” I winked at her. “And don’t tell Jun.”
She’s agaped and I just left her in confusion as I saw Jun was walking out from the school building and walked toward where Mayu
was. Meh, were they going home together? Had you forgotten about Rena, Jun?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Saturday, 10.30I walked down the street calmly since the book store wasn’t too far from my place. Well, honestly, I was not calm at all. I kept questioning myself, you know. ‘Why am I doing this?’ ‘Is it ok if I do this?’ But, I had decided. ‘I’ll do this.’ For Rena… and Jun.
I kept walking and kept thinking. Suddenly, I felt a doubt. I didn’t know why, but… was it ok? I could feel uneasiness tickling my heart. I glanced at my watch. 10.50. Should I do this? My mind was in chaos when my eyes caught a sight of melon pans were put in the stall of the bakery, fresh from the oven. The fume from the hot melon pan caused a blur in the glass stall. I stopped right in front of the bakery and smiled. Those breads had successfully played the memory of the last Sunday in my mind.
-Flashback- “I’m hungry. Let’s grab something to eat.”
Not giving me a chance to say anything, Rena pulled my hand and dragged me out of the bookstore and ran. Yeah, we’re literally running. Reaching the destination already, we stopped and I panted hard. God! Really, this girl…
“Waa... Melon pan. We’re in time, Sae-kun!” Rena squealed in enjoyment and stepped into the bakery. Melon pan? What kind of creature is that? Is that why we’re running like crazy and made me gasping crazily??! How dare you, melon-pan!
“Come on, Sae. Sit here.” Rena patted the seat next to me and beamed a smile. Ugh. My eyes!
I approached her and took a seat. There’re only two tables and two seats of each. The other table was empty.
“I’ve ordered. I hope you don’t mind with melon-pan and a cappuccino. I don’t know what your liking is.”
“Well, at least you could’ve asked me before, Rena-chan.”
“Sorry. Have no time for that.”
“What-… Ah! Forget it.”
I gave up and decided not to create a debate with her. I threw a glance outside the bakery, to the street. Why am I here? I planned to spend this Sunday with Jun playing games in the arcade and now what? He left! I’ll kill you, Matsui Jun!
“I’m sorry, Sae-kun.”
I turned to Rena and caught a sad expression in her face. Here we go…
“It’s ok, Rena-chan. I don’t have a plan at all since Jun left with Mayu. Thank god you asked me to accompany you. Thanks to you, I’m so happy.”
Rena smiled weakly. “Really? But I’m not happy.”
I gulped. “Rena…”
“But it’s ok, now. Since melon-pan-chan is here.” Suddenly Rena smiled widely as the waitress approached our table along with the order.
“Melonpan-chan, daisuki!” Laughed Rena. And I swear I heard a chuckle as well. And I swear I don’t like that chuckle. Don’t get me wrong, I always love her laugh, everyone does, but not that chuckle. Not that one.
I saw her munching it joyfully. Meh. I know it’s fake. That smile was a fake. I knew what you’re feeling, Rena-chan. That’s why you dragged me all along, right? But since I’m here, I’ll comfort you.
-End of Flashback- “What can I do for you?”
The waitress’ voice startled me. Ah, I might look like a poor starving boy staring a melon pan that way. I shook my head and ran off.
Crap. It’s already 11.05 now. It’s no good to make a lady wait, right? What have I done? Daydreaming in front of a bakery and staring at some bread like that. Thanks to Rena for that. I hope I wasn’t drooling.
I rushed to the bookstore. Mayu might have waited me.
Wait! I slowed down my steps. How could I be so sure that Mayu would come? The way I asked her yesterday… There’s no way she would come, right? She likes Jun after all. There’s no point to run then. Still, I kept walking. It’s only one turn left to get to the
bookstore. I walked slowly, turned and…
“She came!” I whispered to myself.
There she was, standing while reading a manga attentively. I stepped closer to her spot and blinked a few times, trying to grab a hold from the sight before me. She really came? Why?
Aware of my presence, she slowly lifted her head and looked at me. “You’re late.”
I cleared my throat and looked back at her. “Sorry. I bumped on something before.”
“It’s impolite to make a girl waits, you know.” She closed her manga and put it into her pouch.
“Why do you come?”
She raised her head and asked me back, “Why do you ask me out?”
“I just want to try something,” I shrugged.
“Same here, then.” She answered calmly as watching me with that unreadable stare. That poker face!
Actually, I was a bit surprised to hear her answer. What did she want to try? There’s something with this girl. I could feel it.
“Then, let’s go. Where do you want to go?” No matter what, I need to be composed and stayed cool. I AM COOL.
“What’s your plan then?”
“Well, honestly, I haven’t any.”
“You asked a girl for a date without a plan?”
I shook my head.
“About where to go, at least?”
“Nope.”
“Interesting.” She chuckled. “Well, then. What about my place?”
“Eh?!!”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
We’re literally at her home now. Her parents were out so it’s just the two of us. ‘What the hell am I doing here?’ My head kept replaying that sentence. I decided to stare at the white lilies located near the window as I didn’t know what to do. Some minutes later, I could hear Mayu’s steps were approaching and I straighten my back automatically. She served the tea on the table and told me to drink it.
“Ah. Thank you.”
“Feeling awkward? You look so nervous,” said Mayu with a smirk as she’s observing my face.
Shit. Relax, Sae. “Ermm no. I was just admiring those.” Answered me and pointed at the lilies.
“Those? Really?” said Mayu with disbelieving expression as she took a seat next to me on the sofa. “You like flowers?”
“Not really. Do you?”
“I do. Most girls do. Bought them some, they’ll be happy. Do you know who bought me those lilies?”
“I don’t care who bought you those.”
“Jun did.” Said she and stared at me, again, with that mysterious look. Why did she tell me that? I told her I didn’t care.
“No wonder, as you are his future girlfriend.”
“You already knew it, still, you asked me out?”
“As I said before, you’re not official yet.” I shrugged. “And I don’ think he likes you.”
I was hoping a surprised expression from her as I said that straightly, but what I got was just a calm expression and a mere blink
before she said, “What made you think that way?”
“I just know. We were quite close and I could read him like an open book.” I looked at her and she raised her eyebrows and laughed lightly before answering, “Like an open book? Really?”
Why did her reaction like that? “Of course. We’re best buddies.”
She just nodded and not answering. Speaking about Jun, I was getting curious of that one thing. "Anyway, you tell Jun?”
“You told me not to.” She answered and turned to me. “Ne, tell me Sae. Are you doing this for revenge?”
“What?” I was surprised by her question.
“Yeah, he punched you and all. And now here you are dating with me.” She shrugged. “I know we’re not official… yet… but, you
know… It’s just weird.”
“I have my reasons and it doesn’t have something to do with revenge or such. If you’re feeling weird why do you agree to meet me
then?”
She sighed. “I’m just curious and as I said before, I want to try something.”
“Hey, that’s my reason.”
“Well, mine too.”
“Alright.” I lifted my hands, giving up.
She smirked and rose. She walked to the kitchen and minutes later, she brought a piece of cake and offered it to me. “I made it last
night. It’s just a leftover by the way.”
“Should you tell me that?” I took the fork and had a bite. It’s delicious actually. “Oiishi. You’re a good cook I guess.” I took another
bite, another, and another.
“I am.” She said it in a cool way. Meh. This girl’s so full of herself. “I made it for Jun, and he said similar thing like you. But yeah, he said it in a better way than you.”
This girl… Should she keep blabbering about Jun? Well, no wonder, since she’s… Wait! What did she say just now? I gulped and before asking her, “So… This is Jun’s leftover?” I stared at her and she stared back before nodding calmly.
“……..

”
“Anyway, I know his reason why he did that to you.” She pointed at my cheek.
“What? How?”
“He told me. He didn’t tell you?”
I shook my head in silence.
“And you call yourself his best-buddy?”
“……”
“I’ll tell you if you tell me your real intention.”
“What intention?”
“To do this. I can tell that actually you’re not interested in me.”
Meh, she’s smart. But, how could I say that I did this just to separate her from Jun? No way. So I just said… “Not telling…”
“Humph. You’re so annoying.” She scoffed.
“By the way, why do you invite me to your house? What if I do something bad to you?”
“Haha. You may act like a flirt, or player, or such in school. But I know you’re as innocent as a kid. Well, although not as innocent as
Jun.”
I narrowed my eyes. This girl… What happened to the shy and easily blushed girl when we first met?
“Well, I was just not in the mood to be out today and since you don’t have any plan, so, well…” She shrugged. “I’m wondering what Jun will think when he found out that his ‘best-buddy’ asked me out...” She uttered it while staring at the ceiling.
“Why don’t we just stop talking about Jun? It’s our date by the way.” I neared her and watched her face. She watched me back.
“I don’t know what to talk about us,” Mayu rose from her seat and went to the kitchen. A minute later, she brought a plate of cookies with her and put it on the table. “To me, you’re just a friend of Jun. That’s all.”
I stared at the cookies and then turned to see her. “Why do I have a feeling that you want me to stay longer? You keep serving me foods and such.”
Mayu blinked a few times and retorted, “W-What’re you talking about? You’re my guest, and I’m just trying to be a nice host.” She sat and crossed her arms. “Well, I served it not only for you. I’m serving it for myself as well.” She grabbed the biscuit and munched it. Was she shy? I swear I could see a tint of pink on her cheeks.
Silence engulfed us and I didn’t know what to do nor say, and Mayu chose to keep eating the biscuits. Well, I would just eat them too. I reached out my hand to grab the biscuit but it landed on a soft surface. Truth to be told, it was Mayu’s hand. Mayu learned that and in a flash she pulled her hand back and turned her head to another direction. Hmph… Has she a split personality or something?
Why suddenly she looked like a shy innocent girl when before, she acted as annoying as possible.
“Sorry.” That’s all I could say as I didn’t know how to react on her reaction.
She kept silent and stared at the ground. But I knew she was thinking as I could see her eyebrows furrowed. This girl’s really something. Trust me, I knew it.
I was wondering what would she say and I knew my curiosity would vanish soon as I saw her lifting her head slowly and faced me.
“Do you know what I like from Jun?”
O gosh. From any topics we could talk about, why Jun again? “Honestly, I got no idea.” I shrugged. “I know you like him and it’s not surprising because everyone who got to know him would like him for sure. But I don’t know what made you like him that much.”
“I wish I know. But I don’t know either,” said Mayu with a sigh. “And I think I’m about to fall for him.”
I stared at Mayu and I could see a hint of sadness in her eyes which were gazing at the lilies. Ugh! I hate those sad eyes. But now I know that she’s really like Jun. This’s gonna be more difficult than what I thought.
“He said that I’m her future girlfriend. What’s that?” Mayu chuckled. “Future girlfriend? Why can’t he just address me with girlfriend?
Why?”
I gulped. I know the reason, Mayu. Should I tell her? “Maybe… Because he’s…”
“He’s hesitating, I know.” Mayu cut my words. “This’s so frustrating.”
“Then why don’t you just give up?”
Mayu stared at me in confusion. “What?”
“Yeah. Just give up if it’s so frustrating.”
Mayu looked at me with suspicious stare, “Now, Sae. Why do you want me to give up?”
I was speechless though I knew obviously why I wanted her to give up. It’s because of Rena’s feeling to Jun. It’s because they loved each other. It’s because you’re on their way and made Rena sad. It’s because I don’t like it!
“I’m getting interested to you.”
Mayu’s eyes widen in amazement. “We both know you’re not.”
“Well, I wasn’t. But I am now.”
“Why?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe the reason is the same with your reason for liking Jun.”
Mayu watched my eyes with those black orbs of hers before chuckling and turned, “I can’t believe this. You’re not like what I thought.” She smirked and turned back to me. “You’re more interesting than what I thought.”
I frowned. “What do you mean?”
Mayu just shook her head. “Nothing. But now I have a hint about what your real intention is. Still, I’m not sure though.”
I watched her figure intensely and I could tell myself that she’s not as innocent as what her usual image showed to everyone. Was she trying to play a game? Well, two could play the game, right?
“Then, why don’t we try to find out?” I stared at her right into her eyes. “Let’s find the reasons of everything. What’s yours and mine as well.”
Mayu smirked. “Yoroshiku.”
Hmm. She was frustrating before and now she smirked evilly. It’s confirmed. She has split personality.

:
“Well, it’s getting late. I’ll excuse myself, then.” I rose from the seat and took steps to the door with Mayu following me behind. As we reached the door, I turned to face her and stole a chance to kiss her cheek. Her eyes widened and stared at me, shocked. Well, it couldn’t help since she’s so cute. Yeah, aside from her split personality. I grinned mischievously before leaning closer to her ear.
“I think I should bring you flowers next time.”
