hey all!! i just got power back so i thought id like to see if anyone else heard what happened. there were supposedly 2 earthquakes so i guess the third shaking i felt was an aftershock...it was so cool. i was without electricity for 13 hours. i live in waikiki and was walking around, and there were lines of tourists and people goin crazy! it was hilarious. all this just because they cant live without electricity. o well hope everyone NOT on this island had fun with their computers and internet...its time for me to make up for the time i didnt download.

Well, I live in a condo near Ala Moana, twenty floors up.  I'm a pretty light sleeper to begin with so all that swaying...  You better believe it woke ME up.

There was a faint rumble in the distance and the blaring of sensitive car alarms.  It lasted a LONG time to me.  About quarter after seven I called home and my mom was already awake and thought the rumble was thunder.  Right then the power went pfffzzzzttph!! and has been dead until six-ish.

Hopefully Waikiki is up and running.  Haven't heard anything about price gouging (it HAS happened during hurricanes) but someone was apparently trying to siphon gas from people's cars in Mililani.

I'm at my folk's place near Diamond Head and I was told the power was back up in Kaka'ako, thank Rika!

I think everyone is doin' good now.

However...  power seems to be distributed arbitrarily.  Some areas in Kaimuki were black as night, and then all was OK just a block or two away.  Back at my place, all is OK.  But there's an apartment nearby that looks like a big black rock in the darkness.  Also the cable in our building didn't kick back in until just about an hour ago (the thought of being in my place without my internet connection working is a traumatic one).

About the only bad things that happened today was:

-- No morning coffee
-- Missed the Mets-Cardinals game on teevee
-- Walked down 20 flights of stairs since the emergency power in the building went out
-- Listening to regular radio stations for info instead of the usual online sources
-- Being awoken and spooked by a DAMN EARTHQUAKE!

haha!

Dj-B13, you remind of me of my uncle out in LA.  When the quake hit, i heard from family that he put his entire body flat against his 'antique' collection shelf stack and guard it with himself =-)

what's in your collection??
