Teen Expelled From School For Turning In Found Gun

Expelling him sounds a little harsh, but he pocketed the weapon and gave the it to the principal after a short time? How short? Why didn't he just report of the gun to the principal?

After school shootings in American schools I understand the extreme caution in these cases.

It's "funny" that most school shootings that have media attention are predominately "white" schools... >_>

I don't know the exact details, but if he did pocket the weapon, he can be expelled for having a weapon in his possession. What he should have done is call the authorities and not physically take the weapon. For all we know he could have been a part of some plot and chickened out in the last minute

Race takes a big factor among many things. I grew up around almost all "minorities", and I've experienced and witnessed so much racism, hell I can be pretty racist at times. You can't say race doesn't matter anymore, cause in some cases it's almost all that matters.

good read mix i was basicly trying to say it is sad to see tha racisum still exist... and i agree with what you said i just dont understand why i am not racist and so many others in the world are .... but i probally never will i have freinds of several diffrent colors and i treat all of them the same .

I'm not gonna comment on the above argument/discussion, all has been said...but I have experienced something like that

My Middle School in 7th grade was the worse school in the county...as in bad kids, trouble makers, drugs, weapons, fighting, etc.  We had metal detectors and what not, but anyways, yea, there's one thing I remember clearly.

A weapon and drugs "dropbox" right outside of the Gym, it was in order for kids who 'might' have incriminating and illegal things to place them in that box so they won't inadverdently harm or make trouble in school...funny thing was, there was a camera right on it.  I remember kids were stupid enough to use it, any kid caught on camera was punished lol, regardless if the illegal item was there's or not, and regardless of race.

Maybe under school or district rules, that if you possess a firearm on schoolgrounds, you get expelled.  In this kids case, he possessed the weapon, although in a short time, he did.  Seems like those people are more of hardasses on policy, rather than racist.  Thats just how I see it...

I still think the school's decision is bullshit...if that junk was a real gun...well yea...not gonna think beyond that.

Possession includes physical control and a manifest intent to exclude others. I don't believe there was an intent to exclude in this case. The circumstances suggest exactly the contrary. As such, I don't believe he was ever in possession of the gun.

EDIT: Never mind. He pocketed the gun 'to keep it safe'. Guess he did possess it.

That’s mess up unless something involving the gun happened in that "short time" I don't see why they did that. And don't play the race card so quick there maybe more circumstances involved then what as in the article.
