Since "Sexy 8 Beat" is the next tour.. could that be the next album title, or is it just a coincidence that "8" is the next in line for an original album title?

At any rate we're bringing this waaaaaay off topic. Bottom line is, Miki's going to be leader once Yossi leaves. Whether people think she's suited for it or not of if they think she deserves it or not, that's how it's going to be. Nothing we say here will change the fact that MM will soon stand for "Miki's Musume".

Actually, discussing about Miki becoming the new MoMusu leader is not necessarily off topic because it's related to Yossie's graduation; in fact, it's a direct side effect of Yossie's graduation since Yossie is also MoMusu's present leader.

Also, discussing about the changes in MoMusu's image due to Yossie's presence or absence in MoMusu should also be on topic, I think, since every graduation always brings about some change, be it big or small, in MoMusu's image.

But anyway, Miki's case is quite a complicated and controversial issue, whether she's suited to be leader or sub-leader, or whether she should have even joined MoMusu in 2003 and not continue as a soloist are all controversial topics. But one thing for sure is that Miki's Musume would most probably become quite different from Yossie's Musume, let alone Iida's or Nakazawa's Musume.

But in any case, after all is said and done, whatever we fans get to see of MoMusu is decided by powers beyond our control, i.e. Tsunku, UFA, and other powerful people in the Japanese Entertainment Industry; they are the ones who have the final say, while we, the fans (both inside and outside Japan), and the MoMusu members themselves, can at most suggest or request or beg...

Since there seems to be many experts here, I have a question: what does a Morning Musume leader do? I mean, what are their responsibilities as leader? Because all I've seen so far is that they make the introductions in concerts, and they say the encouragement words before performances, but whatever else they do that differs from what the rest of the group does eludes me. Please?

Just my 2 cents:
*sigh* [/I]This also brings me to a related point that I've mentioned elsewhere:

"The spirit of Gold Era MoMusu was also much stronger and warmer with a nice balance of old and young, tall and short members, with unique and attractive characters; in essence, Gold Era MoMusu felt like a family of close sisters, daughters (musumes) led by a strong mother or big sister (Nakazawa) and a loving father (Tsunku)."

But I'm afraid I honestly can't say the say same thing for the present MoMusu...:(

Very true. Current morning musume has become too young overall. Plus, Miki wouldn't make a good big sister (or mother) figure. She seems too moody. I think Rika could have stayed longer, and Yossie could stay longer, to give younger members the love they need, like mother and father.

Probably these are all that i could come up with:

Foreground job
1) Relating and distributing information gotten from Tsunku.
2) Say Hi, Yays and Goodbyes @ TV, Variety, Music, Concert shows.
3) Walk at the front of the group ? :D

Background job
1) Act as a confidant to the girls, giving advices.
2) Keep the girls in check to make sure they come for practices and keep out of scandals. Or teach the girls how to keep themselves out of the way from friday reporters' cameras. Miki should be good at this since i don't hear much gossip about her.
3) Orders girls to buy cookies and milk from the convenience store lol
4) Act as a restraint to keep the girls from clubbing Tsunku to death

I like the last one :D

And now for Yossi, I wish UFA would give her a Utaban-like TV show to host with Makoto, that would be great!

Wow. I have no idea how they can perform Mr. Moonlight after Yossie leaves since all the "boys" will be gone. And it's one of my favorite MoMusu songs too!

Reina could be an imperfect substitute.  Other than Reina, nobody else should even attempt it.  She's got a certain bad-ass'ness to her that none of the other remaining girls have.  Too bad Ogawa's not around any more.

Actually, I wish they would get rid of the seniority-based system and select their leaders based on appropriateness, rather than age.  It's crap, all of Japan knows its crap, yet every organization in Japan still uses it.  Morning Musume isn't the army, and the oldest musume isn't always going to be the best person to lead.

Japan is going to do just that right after they give up the Emperor, Shintoism, chopsticks, soy sauce, saki, and rice.  ;)

I read this in another forum. I saw this coming, everyone did. But why so soon?
Who's to be the next leader? Is it Risa?
MM's been so unstable ><

It's already been discussed through pretty much the entire thread.

Miki is sub-leader, so when Yossi leaves, Miki will take over as the leader of the group (with Takahashi as the new sub-leader). It goes by age, a pretty crap method if you ask me.

Age is always an extra degree in experience. 5th Gen has been in more time, but Miki knows more things. Anyway does it really matter? All a leader do is speak in press conferences and yell at everyone in the trainings. They never mentioned to help Tsunku with the songs. I mean, they should be able to choose a style or something, one would think. But Tsunku decides it all so the leader role is pretty small. Not to mention the subleader is pointless xD I've only read about Aya deciding songs, and that very recently, just because Tsunku didn't produce them.

When it comes to MoMu I think Tsunku doesn't let anyone make changes unless himself. MoMu said "When we practiced the song it had a total different arrangement" (Sexy Boy interview), so that pretty says that it's he making the changes at the very last moment. I think a leader should have at least to decide if the next song goe supbeat or midtempo or ballad... if they ever did, they never told it the journalists. All we know is Tsunku decides it all. So as long as a leader just speaks in Music Station and other conferences, it's not that much of a big deal who gets the role, imo. Takahashi should deserve it, but well, it's their method ^^

Yeah, but within Momusu, the 5th gen have more experience and they have the better 'grasp' of things that are group-related which I think is more important than "generally knowing more" such as Miki.

Anyways, putting all that aside, in the end it doesn't matter indeed. It's not like the leader waves around a shiny badge revealing her position, and whatnot.

But such a method at least ensures minimal chance of quarrelling, don't you think? Besides, the true stars will always shine, whether they're leaders or not, and sometimes, the fact that they're not leaders helps their stars to shine even brighter. Also, elderliness can be a valid quality for leadership because of the longer life experience the person has; and in East Asian cultures, it's quite normal for younger people to desire to have older people they can look up to for guidance and leadership.

Yes, of course.

But my problem applies to Momusu, just the group, nothing else. And the fact that Miki is being promoted as leader because she's the oldest, I've had no problems with it before (Iida, Yaguchi, etc), it's just my problem lies with Miki being the leader. She's not very "YAY WE ARE MOMUSU! SUPPORT US!!", like the leader should be. I'm sure she'll try though, I'm not 100% against it, just probably more than half.

Whether Miki tries her best or not, I don't think the characteristic "YAY WE ARE MOMUSU! SUPPORT US!!" of the Gold Era is ever going to come back. Gold Era MoMusu was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and come to think of it, I think it should stay that way as something for conservative MoMusu fans like myself to treaure...
