i believe why drug companies don't want to capitalize is because they have little chance of dominating the market.
for example Tylenol is probably one of the largest pain medications, but there are so many generic forms out there, why not just buy those?
That's because Tylenol is a trusted brand name.
Once that substance gets into mainstream medicine, all the drug companies are going to immediately start making it and selling it. At a cheap cost and high prices no doubt.
But they have no time at being the "only" one or the best company for that product, meaning they all are selling the same thing to a neutral group of consumers with no bias toward one company for that specific drug
