I've been wondering, sorry for the stupid question but what is a wota?

Wota = a fan of girl idols.

So if the word "otaku" is used for anime fans then "wota" is used for fans of H!P, Sweets, Hinoi Team, Yuko Ogura etc. And mo-wota means a Morning Musume fan.

Masa - I kind of figured this out from reading the posts, but it is nice to get a formal explanation and the reference to Momusu wota.  

I guess I would call myself an “ishi-wota” cause Rika Ishikawa is all any wota could ever possibly want in girl idol.  She is the goddess of all girl idols!!!

Wait a minute…based on the oringal post by Masa:

If
wota = a fan of girl idols
and
mo-wota = a fan of Morning Musume
then
ishi-wota  = a fan of girl idol Ishikawa Rika
not
a fan of Rika wota

This is assuming of course that my high school and college computer programming logic is correct :scratch.  It sounds right to me technically.

My emphasis is on the fever part. Ishi-wota are people who are obsessed with rika. If you use the fever part as it usually meant in calloquial english, you're saying that you are obssessed with what ever is the subject you mentioned before it, which is "Ishi-wota". So by that you are saying that you are a Ishi-wota fan.

eg: someone with "Jungle Fever".

I was referring to the hardcore Japanese wota (with the parades, Rika shrines, painted vans, etc) and how it would be sick to be fans of the fans themselves and not the celebrity/entertainer.  I can respect these guys to a certain extent and what they have done to support H!P and Rika, but I do know that extreme fanaticism can be scary (fictional example - remember the Stephen King novel/movie “Misery” - and as the saying goes truth is stranger than fiction   ).  I agree with what Kamui wrote:

I dont know about the rest of you but I get a little bit creeped out by these fanboys. I'm sure as a star it feels great to have a bunch of fans.. until they go that far.

For what it’s worth I think the users of this board are a really great well rounded intelligent group of people.  That is why I enjoy being here.  StreakInTheSky was sharp to catch the unintentional meaning in what I wrote about ishi-wota fever and it made me laugh.  It’s cool to see people actually reading what you post!  

I have learned so much here and I value the feedback and comments of others. I do my best to visit JPH!P every couple of days (if not more often) because I know I will always learn something new and share information, ideas and laughs with people who I can relate with.

Yeah Masa I’ll wait until you guys become famous and have forums dedicated to you before I paint my car and build a shrine in your honour.  

But daigong, ebc, and you deserve all the props and respect from the hearts of all the ishi-wota here…you guys really are a big reason that JPH!P and The RIVE are so great!

Just to clarify, I purposely misunderstood you. I do agree with your initial statement; some of those guys go more than a little too far.

However, I also like the idea of being a fan of fans of something. Very postmodern. I'll leave actually doing it to someone else, though.

To insert a brief on-topic interlude, this week's Chanchami fell short of the greatness of the last few, but I realized anew that I like how she still laughs at her own jokes. My streak of falling in love with her every week continues unbroken.
