I had no idea she had a boyfriend, let alone one for a while now.
The rumors about Aya and Tachibana have been going on for years. Officially, the management groups of both sides have almost always been "No they're not." Aya and Tachibana themselves however, would usually just dance around the issue or just be "no comment" if the issue was ever brought up in interviews. With all of the rumoured sightings of them though (and this is an Aya fanboy saying this), it's really always been pretty obvious that they really were and have been a couple all of this time.

Now considering how the Idol industry (and to a certain extent, the Entertainment industry in Japan in general) works, to me it would not be a surprise at all if the current rumors were true and that she really is planning on retiring from public life completely so that/if she wants to settle down.  Many an idol in Japan has followed this route before Aya. Now speaking on a personal level, I still hope that if she and Tachibana do decide to settle down/get married/whatever, that she still stays active to some degree. Sure she pretty much stepped back/walked away from the singing part of her career, but that's okay. For me, Aya does not (and for a long time she did not) need to be "Ayaya". I've been totally fine seeing her "just co-hosting" Meringue.  She might not have been the headliner of the show, but then again, she was never supposed to be, and as far as I could tell at least, she was fine with it.

We've seen that it's possible for idols to start more "grown-up/family" oriented phases of their lives (from H!P alone, there's Miki-sama, Nono, Kaorin & Ayaka) and still stay in the public eye, even if it's on a reduced scale.  We've also seen examples of idols who have previously walked away, then later on decided to re-enter public life (such as former MM member Icchi Sayaka and former C-ute member Murakami Megumi), so even if Aya decided at this point of her life to retire, that doesn't necessarily mean that she wouldn't entertain the possibility of returning sometime in the future.  Then again, who knows, she might find something (career-wise) that she is just as good at, or possibly even better at, than when she was being an idol/singer.

In the grand scheme of things, we as fans need to realize and accept the fact that Aya will do whatever it is that makes her happy. Whatever she wants to do, is what she should do, and the best thing we can do is just wish her well/wish the best for her and hope that she does indeed get that happiness in life.

Here's a big reason why she can't retire just yet: She needs to re-record her vocals for this guy's track!

Yeah! めっちゃホリディ「TOKYO JUKEBOX 2」試聴用

Former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman is releasing another compilation of thrash metal covers of J-pop songs, with "Yeah! Meccha Holiday" being one of the tracks.

An explanation for her lack of activity and the retirement speculation?

To all you fans, thank you for your constant support.

I have something I would like to share with you.

This has been going on for about 4 years now. Every now and then, while in my every day routine, I would get stomach pains. After consulting with a physician, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. Upon discussing with my staff, I decided in 2009 to take a “2-3 year break from doing concerts”.

I continued to do research on my own and found that there are many others just like me who are suffering from the same condition. However, I found out that instead of treating the condition, they just ignore it and allow the condition to worsen. I hope that by sharing this I can help inform a lot of other women about this condition. If you are worried about the possibility of this at all, I highly recommend that you visit the hospital as soon as possible.

For me, these types of personal problems are a very delicate matter, so only people really close to me have known about this throughout my years of activity, however this year marks the 10th anniversary of my debut and is an important year for me and my fans. Despite hearing what everyone had to say, I can’t just stop everything though! Right ♥ So I will do my best to continue my activities without pushing myself too hard.

I apologize for making my fans worry.
I hope you can understand and please continue to support me from here on just like before.

Matsuura Aya
I think it's great that she wants to continue on despite the condition while bringing more awareness of it. Her health comes first, so I hope she can still handle everything well. 頑張って亜弥ちゃん!

More info on the condition...sounds and looks scary but also seems manageable.

Poor Ayaya, first the jaw thing and now this. It's a shame that they're conditions that impair her ability to perform, because she's a GREAT entertainer.

Take care of yourself, Ayaya!!! There's no shame in taking a break, especially for health reasons. And please continue to post on twitter!

Ayaya's health and happiness are the most important things, and while she takes her time to rest and rejuvenate, she has left of us plenty of memories.

And Peach growers around the world cannot say thank you enough.....

Aya had a FC Event on February 5, and the DVD for it will be out on March 1 as a FC release.

Btw the Matsuurian Archives have been restored after the megaupload shutdown

Might as well drop some recent officials here to remind everyone what she looks like (as this thread has been pretty empty lately)

The DVD for Maniac Live Vol.4 is now available for order in the FC shop.

When I looked at the price of 7875yen I thought "They're out of their mind" but then I realized it's a 2-Disc DVD (still a rather hefty amount).
Why two discs? It could be that they made one for each show as the setlists were completely different. But that's just an assumption of course.
You will find at least a rip in my usual places once it has arrived (which normally takes appx. two months after the release for FC goods)

But more importantly:

Today MSP has released its biggest project yet:
It took 9 months to complete....
Real life got in the way a few times with kai_guy, Tako and myself
Then we had to find someone to translate one missing song, therefore many thanks to denadel for having his translator Kako take a look at it
But finally, after some fierce battles between Tako and me about styles and fonts.... :-)
MSP is proud to present the 2009 FC Event "Maniac Live Vol.2 in full

12 great songs and several very funny MCs waiting for you.
Get to understand Aya's technology and diary phobia
Find out about the color of Tsunku's underwear
Be shocked that Aya likes S&M
Learn about the secrets of Aya's toilet seat - and the dangers of it
Have her calculate the chance of another swimsuit PB
(and what her little sister has to do with it)
and a lot more....

Now if this isn't enough to make you download this release, then....well....you're dead

You can find it on the HO tracker or in the Matsuurian archives. And for two weeks on minus.com (1 - 2)

Oh yeah, the password isn't visible on minus, but on the archives main page it's written three times in red :)
It's: Matsuurian
(thanks JFC - btw you shuold show your face more often at the forum :) )

My revamped Aya twitter index is now online
http://matsuurian.com/ayatwitter/ayatwitter.htm
It includes those translations we have.
I have also gone through all the tweets exchanging the "broken" chars like ♥ or 〜 or ☻which my PC didn't understand with the hex versions, so they're visible now.
I've also added the original "this is a reply to" messages if available (some accounts are protected or deleted).
