Ueto and her struggles acting as a detective

Today was a press conference for Ueto Aya's (24) upcoming dorama "Zettai Reido" that is all about a special investigation unit working solely on cold cases similar to popular US TV series "Cold Case." Ueto is going to play the role of a detective for the first time in her career and had various struggles adapting to her new role. "I didn't want people to get tired of my usual image and decided to show a completely new side of me this time. It was my own suggestion to play such a role, but I didn't expect that it would be so difficult for me to lose myself in the role," she revealed. For someone like her who used to portray bright and energetic characters almost all the time it's quite understandable to be struggling with such a different kind of role.

Japan actually just established a new department that specializes on cold cases in November last year. Their goal is to settle case that are about to come under the statute of limitations for the sake of the victims and their families. Each episode is going to focus on one case and all the efforts trying to find new evidence also thanks to the advanced technology that hadn't yet been available a few years back.

The director had a clear vision of what he was trying to achieve and mixed with Ueto's struggles some scenes had to be redone over 20 times until completion. "I think it never has been so straining and difficult for me to get an OK in a dorama. Every day I immediately collapsed into my bed when I returned home," Ueto commented. She's putting all that hard work into this role and in the end it's not even going to be one of those typically cool detectives. Her role, Sakuragi Izumi, actually earned herself the nickname "kame" (turtle) for being so slow at work. "I've seen detective doramas with actresses in the leading roles, but it wasn't really helpful that all of them have been really cool characters. This dorama focuses on the loneliness that can't be seen that often but comes with the job of a detective. I still tried to look cool, though." Her last commented made people laugh at the event.

Miyasako Hiroyuki (40), Yamaguchi Sayaka (30), Maruyama Tomomi (35), Kitagawa Hiromi (29), Kimura Ryo (21), Nakahara Takeo (58), Sugimoto Tetta (44) and Kitaoji Kinya (67) attended the event as well. Zettai Reido is going to start on the 13th (first episode will be 15min longer).

Aya Ueto, Go Morita in long relationship
Fri, April 16, 2010 (1:11pm EDT)

Aya Ueto (24) and V6 member Go Morita (31) are reportedly a couple. Rumors of the pair have been around since 2002, but there has been no confirmation of it until this week, when Ueto acknowledged that she is currently in a relationship.

Ueto attended a PR event for a new commercial for menswear company AOKI. Following up on a magazine article published last month that claimed that Ueto and Morita went on a White Day date on March 14, reporters asked Ueto about it and about her love life. She responded in the positive, revealing that she has been dating for a while.

Ueto and Morita played siblings in the 2001 drama series "Yome wa Mitsuboshi." In December 2002, a tabloid magazine reported that the two were dating, but their agencies at the time did not acknowledge it. The rumor resurfaced last month with the article about their White Day date, and Ueto essentially confirmed it with her statements at the AOKI event.

Both Ueto's and Morita's representatives declined to comment further on the news.

Ueto Aya talks about getting kidnapped

Actress Ueto Aya gets kidnapped — in the upcoming web movie of navigation system maker ECLIPSE.

Rather than making some plain commercial, ECLIPSE decided to market their new model "AVN 7500" with a suspense web movie starring Ueto Aya. The movie is titled "Ueto Aya Kidnapping!?" and will have a total of 4 short episodes that are going to be released on their special website starting May 21, 2010. They will get released one by one with the last one becoming available sometime mid-June.

Ueto is going to play as herself and gets kidnapped by a mysterious man in a waiting room. Her manager and several detective, one played by Michael Tomioka, now try to corner the criminal and frequently rely on the AVN 7500 while following the traces. Why did she get kidnapped and what will happen to her? Looks like it's going to be a fun little story. Oricon now got a hold of Ueto and talked with her about how it was to film this web movie. Teaser available below the interview!

— Is there any difference between filming a web movie and filming a dorama or movie?

[Ueto] Not at all. The atmosphere, the tight schedule, the determination, everything was the same. The only difference might be that you had to try to exaggerate your actions more, since it's going to be screened at a smaller size in the web.

— How was the filming experience this time?

[Ueto] It was the first time that I've filming something for the web with so much devotion behind it. The large amount of cameras and the high quality standards, there was almost no difference from filming a commercial for TV. I felt really nervous the whole time.

— You are playing yourself?

[Ueto] In commercials I am always acting as "Ueto Aya", unless there is some special setting, so there is actually no difference. I played the way I always do.
