A bit late in the ff8 discussion but I started playing ff8 again a few months ago and just loved it. But my disc 2 has a deep scratch on it and is unplayable. >_<

I bought ff7 off of the psn since I don't have the game discs and it really just doesn't pull me in as did 8.

I want ff8 downloadable on psn!

I don't really think it's that necessary to flesh out all the characters that much. It's like the people you meet, you don't always have to know their whole life story. It's the personalities and experiences they bring along with them. And I thought all the party members had pretty interesting personalities and little tidbits that you could relate too that made me care. Quistis was the hot young teacher who was conflicted with her role as a teacher and a growing young adult, much like a someone fresh out of school figuring out what to do next.

Lots of people hate the characters of the game, but that's a matter of preference on what kind of people you like I guess. I can relate to most of them, especially now that I'm older than I was when I first played, and I can see their charms.

As far as main plot goes, all FF games pretty much follow cliche fantasy or sci-fi plots. There's not much difference in most other FF games. Though I thought FF8's plot was a bit linear, it was still deep and meaningful. I really don't think one ff plot is really that much better than the other.

The junction system was alright. I didn't really like having to link the GF's for people to do anything. Pretty time consumeing. I like drawing magic though. Gameplay was a bit repetitive like most rpgs, but that's expected. The card game is awesome.

Plus the visuals throughout the entire game are just beautiful. In game or CGI. Had a great soundtrack too.

One of these days I'm going to buy a system so I can play a FF above 6. Haha. I know a lot of people that enjoyed 8, despite it being the apparent "black sheep."

Anyway, do you guys remember the Final Fantasy Legend series for Game Boy (I'm talking before color gameboy, too)? It was technically the SaGa series over seas, I believe... but you know how things like to get renamed.

Anywho, point is, they are remaking my favorite one for the DS:

Final Fantasy Legend II [SaGa 2 Hiho Densetsu] - Goddess of Destiny Trailer

The original was a lot of fun, imo... and apparently they fixed a lot of the problems in this newer one (i.e. no more random leveling up).

I know a lot of people that enjoyed 8, despite it being the apparent "black sheep."

Count me as one of those that love it! For me FFVIII is only behind FFVII and FFX (among the ones I played). It has some things I don't like about it but overall it's great.
The only complains I have about FF8 are:
1. The Laguna segments: I don't know a single person that enjoyed playing as Laguna and his gang, everyone of my friends rushed through these parts so we could get back to the good parts. The way I see it, the only purpose Laguna has in the game is his card that can be Refined in a 100 Hero Drinks (Make character invicible for a while)
2. Selphie and Irvine: They aren't horrible, it's just that since the game has only 6 characters I wish they could've somehow been a little better. It's not like the hate I have for the FF9 characters.

Speaking of FF9 characters, I hated most of them. Especially for the bizarre ones, like Quina and Amarant. Freya isn’t that bad besides looking horrible but the other two … oh my god, Amarant is a rooster, how bad can it be you ask and it gets worse because Quina is so horrible that I don’t have a clue of what it is and besides that, the character is DEAD STUPID.

We’re trying to “save the world” and somehow this retarded character manages to join you ?
You may have started to see a pattern here, that I’m not much found of the not human characters, and well, that’s not ‘entirely’ true. Moogle are nice, RedXIII and Cait Sith are nice too. I don’t mind they being whatever as long as they have some personality. That’s what killed Kimari in FFX for me, he looks cool but speaks like he learned to speak one week before and not only that he most of the time has nothing interesting to say.

To connect all of this with FFXIII, I think it’s nice it has fewer characters than most Final Fantasies because it makes easier for all of them to have some personalities and relate to each other.

It was announced at Gamescom this week that FFXIII will have a simultaneous release on both PS3 and 360.

Quote

Square Enix has finally clarified that Final Fantasy XIII will launch simultaneously on PS3 and 360 in the West.

"We don't have the actual month down yet, but in Japan it's scheduled for a winter release, and in Europe and North American territories it's spring 2010," producer Yoshinori Kitase told VG247 at gamescom.

"For Europe and North American, the PS3 and 360 versions are going to be released simultaneously."

Kitase added that European localisation used to take a year, but should now be "considerably shorter". The European launch of FFXIII, therefore, will be "as close to the North American release as possible".

Square Enix began development on the Western, Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII in April. However, the PS3 code is complete, and - as Kitase mentioned - goes on sale in Japan this winter.

This aroused suspicion that Western PS3 fans are being made to wait for FFXIII simply because of a simultaneous multi-platform-release deal.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ffxiii-out-simultaneously-on-ps3-360

lol at the last line. Yeh a large company wanting to maximise profits on one of it's more elaborate, resource consuming and well established products for the largest market in the world. Go figure...

One of FFXIII's baddies was unveiled too, Jill Nabato.

Looks like FF8's Quistis crossed with TWEWY's Mitsuki 'Iron Maiden' Konishi. Just hope there's a whip too :P In the above link as well, it takes you to a magazine scan where it looks like Lightning is riding on a horse during combat. A summon monster? Odin maybe?

^ LMAO 5GB for a demo?!

Personally I don't see the problem of disc swapping. Didn't bother me in the PS1 days and even with HDD installs and the like, I still don't see it having that much of an impact on me.

if 13 only comes on one disc on the PS3 version then it might not be too bad, only like 3-4 discs for xbox lol.

I dunno though, FF13 might be a good excuse for me to get a PS3 lol.

Games that come on multiple discs nowadays is stupid IMO. Are you saying that technology can't outright eliminate the need for multiple discs. Yes I know about Blu-ray and all that jazz but multiple discs for video games feels and should be obsolete. Back in the PS1 days that was cool. It was like, this game is so awesome it takes 7 discs! But now, its a turn off.

In any case, I am excited for FF13  XD

My copy of Dissidia: Final Fantasy has arrived today! >_<
The Collectors Edition looks soo beautiful...

EDIT:

And this is the Collectors Edition!! =D
In the upper row, you see the Box of the Collectors Edition, the game itself and the Mini-Soundtrack! In the lower row, you see the two lithography prints, the Artbook of Dissidia: Final Fantasy and the Miniguide from Brady Games!
I can make a scan of the two lithography prints, if you want it~

I was just about to post my Collector's Edition I just got today, took a photo and everything! XD

And you're right, it is a very nice package.

Played Dissidia for about a half hour and was pleased with it so far. Warrior of Light looks like a good beginner character, I'll maybe just start off with him first in Story mode. I took a look at the Equipment and the PP shop as well and thought it was actually understocked, if anything. I just heard so much about the rewards Dissidia gives you that I thought the range would be wider. But then I remembered, there's Summons still to get, Abilities, treasures to obtain in Story mode and probably other stuff not yet unlocked from the outset. Guess I'm just impatient XD Oh and it brought a little smile to my face when I saw Red XIII, Rikku and Penelo's character icons in the Manual :D

*EDIT*

Disregard that negativity I mentioned earlier because while finishing the Prologue of Destiny Odyssey I realised that yes, the shop does expand as you progress, and no, I shouldn't play as Warrior Of Light as he has the highest difficulty story XD Just started off with Cecil instead. Just quickly mentioning, I love the music already, in particular the one that's played as you're at the chessboard stage/going through menus of the campaign mode.

Someone pointed this out to me.  A post made by an irate and well, sad gamer who took the announcement of FFXIII to the 360 a little bit too seriously:

FFXIII Irate Fan

Loyalty? You weren't complaining about loyalty when FFVII was on the PS1 rather than Nintendo!

For all those who haven't gotten the Complete version of FF7:AC...

Quote from: cudencuden @ hk-mtv
At the Tokyo Game Show 2006, Square Enix showed a trailer of a director's cut of the film, titled Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete for release on the Blu-ray Disc format. New scenes will be added to the film. The film also benefits from high-definition video and audio that the Blu-ray format offers. In Japan, it came with a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII. The cut had formerly been expected to be released in mid 2007, but Square Enix announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2007 that they would postpone the product until 2008.[12]

At the 2008 Square Enix DKΣ3713 Party, it was announced that Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete would be released in March 2009 in Japan,[13] but it was delayed soon after and was released on April 16, 2009. A separate bundle was sold that included a demo of Final Fantasy XIII. Both editions included the first HD trailers of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. The film features a 20-minute long extra movie on the disc, which is an anime version of the "Case of Denzel" chapter featured in the On the Way to a Smile short story.[13] Advent Children Complete was released in North America on June 2, 2009[14] and on July 27, 2009 in Europe. However, both the North American and the European versions do not come with the playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII. Instead, it comes with a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII.

It contains a considerable amount of new footage that the original version lacks, as well as roughly a thousand revised scenes. This adds a total of 26 minutes to the film, some of the new scenes inlcude a more in depth look at the Geostigma, Denzel and Kadaj's origins, as well as an extended fight between Cloud and Sephiroth.

The Japanese release of this edition features a new ending track from Kyosuke Himuro called "Safe and Sound," with additional lyrics from My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way. The track replaces Himuro's previous track "Calling" from the original cut of the film. However, in the North American release, the song "Calling" remains, and "Safe and Sound" is absent.

The film was released in Japanese in three bundles. One included a limited edition 160GB "Cloud Black" PS3 bundle with the Final Fantasy XIII demo, another was the film with the demo, and the last was be the stand-alone film. The film also includes an OVA based on On the Way to a Smile: Case of Denzel, along with never-before-seen trailers for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Nomura also said that Complete may be the last installment of the Compilation for some time, but he and Nozue have other ideas and are contemplating another film project.

Currently, gamers who purchase a PlayStation 3 80GB system through Gamestop.com or in store, will also receive a Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete Blu-ray movie bonus.

But I've read other people say the revised edition makes more sense to the narrative so I'll definately check it out. Plus you can't go wrong with more Cloud v Sephiroth
