Oh my god, I'm now actually excited about the StreetPass function in the 3DS. I thought it sounded cool, but wasn't getting my hopes up, because people here in Norway rarely take their gaming outside. I don't think I've ever seen someone play their DS outside here (.. apart from friends that I hang out with, lawl). I never really understood these kind of features (a lot of DS games have similar features, Pokemon Black and White as the most recent examples), until I went to Tokyo last summer. In Akihabara you'd find huge areas designated to people playing DS. You could go there just to meet up with other players, or you could get "guests" for your games. Most people showed up hoping for the latter. We joined in by playing Dragon Quest 9 and canvassing for guests. bie got 40 guests for his game in about an hour. We both maxed out the level of the inn (I realise this won't make sense if you haven't played Dragon Quest 9 xD), and we collected tons of treasure maps. Seeing how these kinds of features are meant to work made me sad that there's no culture for this kind of thing amongst gamers or game stores in Norway :/
And that's why the StreetPass function left me a bit miffed when I first learnt about it. I think it's an incredibly cool way to make gaming a more social experience, but I just know that lots of gamers won't really get to use it because people don't usually take their sleeping DSs with them when they go outside.
So~ imagine my surprise when I opened my 3DS during lunch at work today, and found 2 people waiting for me in MiiPlaza. Say whaaaat? @_@ That's amazing! I've walked around with my DSLite on, walking around Oslo canvassing for guests for DQ9 for hours and hours and never encountered a single other player, but 10 minutes on the underground to work.. and there are now two complete strangers in my 3DS D:!
Then later, I encountered yet another person! And that person was playing Nintendogs, so I got a gift from him/her in Nintendogs as well! I was so thrilled! xD;
... though I also learnt the painful way that you'll have to do the MiiQuests/PuzzleQuest/Whatever the heck those games are called in the same sitting as when you register the new arrivals :/ the new arrivals won't count the next time you open the software >_< (though they'll still be in your MiiPlaza).
I just hope this wasn't a one shot kind of thing, I hope I'll be able to stumble across one or two other people tomorrow

!
... this also made me think about the info I put into my MiiProfile. I had a moment during lunch today where I completely flailed thinking "omg, omg two random dudes have my Mii in their DSs D: whaaaat... wait, what does my greeting say again? Shiiiit D:".
Have you guys had any luck collecting people in StreetPass?
