^ You divide a picture into three sections both vertically and horizontally which creates 9 equal sections and 4 intersections and you place important elements of your picture along those lines and/or in those intersections. It allows you to get more of an object into your picture or create better sense of depth. But stuff like portraits do well when centered in your picture so its usually good to go with the Rule of Thirds but never hurts to try centering.

And I think Hara looks good in either picture
