So what does everyone think then? Who's excited for PS4?
For me I thought it was an interesting reveal. Not so fussed on the games they've shown, they're still early in development and need to know more about them. I hope the bigger RAM allows more potential to be had from games and not always just more of the same but prettier (though that can be ok too). I was more excited about the possibilities of the hardware. Putting your console into a suspend state so you can leave, come back and pick up from where you left off? It's impressive. The Share functionality and the cloud computing stuff is cool too, assuming it all goes smoothly, which I know it won't. But broadcasting your gameplay out to the net? Taking control of another player's game so you can complete a difficult section for them? That's really technically impressive.
There are some doubts of course. I don't have a PS3 you see and was thinking of buying one until I heard of this announcement. I was hoping this would have backwards compatibility but sadly that's not the case. I'm in a situation now where I don't know what to do because there are a lot of PS3 exclusives I want to play but I might not be able to. Who can say if they will have Demons Souls or Yakuza 4 available for streaming? How can you guarantee it will all run smoothly and there's no input lag or performance issue? You can't really. So I don't know what to do. (Btw, the PS3 exclusives I'd want to play are Demons Souls, Uncharted 1-3, MGS4, Journey, Yakuza 4, Tokyo Jungle.) Also, did you see the specs of a unit? Unless they scale it back some, there's no way it'll come cheap.
But overall, a very appealing announcement that gave me just enough to get excited. You can imagine they didn't show the actual console, price or release date so they can leave something for E3, most likely to contend with Microsoft. The balls in their court now and I think everyone will be interested to see what they will do to compete. Knowing Sony though, those of us in Europe won't see it til 2014 anyway!
