After two years I've finally started a second play through of Skyward Sword. I would like to beat it before Summer's end, but can't see myself putting many hours into it like I did with the first play through.

Press conferences at Gamescom happened today. Biggest news of all is that the new Tomb Raider will be exclusive to Xbox One. It's difficult to get the semantics down, but the general feeling is that it will be a timed exclusive as the wording is around Holidays 2015. Still, big news and people are pissed about it. Personally I don't see why, all we've seen of it is a CG trailer. And it's a sequel to the TR remake which isn't...ideal. Don't get me wrong, it's a high production, decent playing game, but I definitely had issues with it. The 'tombs', the story and the change in direction to a more action based game than the original TR games were what turned me off. Exclusivity is a two sided coin, for one you're getting a game with a lot of promise as the development isn't fractured if it's multiplatform, meaning developers have more time to work on a single console architecture. On the flip side, if you don't have the console, you're pretty screwed.

But the TR sequel (Rise of the Tomb Raider is a godawful name for the game btw), was shown at E3 as a multiplatform game. So it didn't start off development as an exclusive and literally MS just bought the rights to it. It doesn't really make much business sense either considering that Square Enix said the last game's sales figures of 4m was too low, so how would exclusivity on a less popular console help that? Unless MS literally just guaranteed them a crap ton of money to cover for that?

Also worth mentioning, it is coming out for 360 too, so you don't have to shell out for a new console if you still have that.

Not like my 2007 PC will be able to handle it. But great stuff!

As someone who has gotten really into CS:GO in the fast few months, I found this video entertaining as hell.

On another note, I'm gonna be at PAX Prime this weekend (August 29 - September 1), so you can follow me on twitter if you want random, weird, and perhaps great tweets about the event (@thatonezombie).

After, I don't know, two and half years, I finally could bring myself to finish AMY (with the help of some youtube vids, because otherwise I might still bite my controller in frustration)! I don't know if I should scream for joy or frustration, it's both I guess
To think that I once couldn't wait for that game to be released...
AMY is now officially the worst game I have ever played!!!!
Take this trophy and now GTF off my Xbox harddrive you piece of

^ Ouch. I saw some gameplay from a later section and...geez. I'm sorry! At least you beat it!

Playing more of Fez the past few days and really enjoying it. Figured out the trick behind the tuning fork section which was cool. Seems like I find some little avenue to go down which eventually leads to whole new areas to explore, which is cool. Something tells me you figure out some of the strange symbols correspond to the alphabet but haven't found anything to suggest the correlation yet.

I got my backer code for Mighty no.9 on Steam last night!

It's a beta of the game so it's quite unfinished, but it's really really good. Very Megaman but also not Megaman, if that makes any sense.

You shoot like Megaman until the enemy destablizes and starts glowing, then you dash through them like Zero and collect powers from them like speed up, power up, etc, which last for a little while after you absorb them, you can also do combos when absorbing and this makes the effects last longer.

Also the difficulty is nice! not quite classic crazy Megaman, more like X series hard, and I haven't beaten the end of the level yet.  :cow:

I FINALLY downloaded Shovel Knight for my Wii U and I'm in love! It's both nostalgic and fresh at the same time, while retaining a perfect amount of difficulty. It's almost like they took the good parts of Zelda II and mashed them with Mario 3 and Metroid, honestly.

Just started replaying Borderlands 2 again and man, that game is some serious fun.

Also, for anyone who's played Sacred 3 is that game as big of a flop as some people say it is?

"Game designers are supposed to create play, that is, a particular behavior in players. Proceduralists believe that those behaviors can be predicted, even contained, by the rules, and therefore the meaning of the game, and of play, evolves from the way the game has been created and not how it is played; not to mention when and where it is played, and by whom."

Reading this all I could think:

Yeah, player behaviours can totally be contained by game rules

^ That statement can only go so far if everything else around the game supports it. Dodgy AI, like above, can break player immersion pretty quickly  I think stealth games are some of the most effective in terms of setting player behaviour and they usually do so with the punishment of being spotted. It's up to the player to be as sneaky as they can because they're not as well equipped to deal with situations where they're out in the open and death can come quick, which forces the player to replay the section of the level over again and who wants that?

Tried a PvP match in Destiny there and was disappointed to see my concerns from the beta were not unfounded after all. I'm level 5, got paired up with a level 9 and 13. We went up against guys of level 20, 21 and 23. I think the level advantages were disabled but we were still steamrolled. Despite that, I emerged out of it with 12 kills and a positive K/D ratio and was awaiting to see what reward I got at the end. I didn't get anything. But the guy in my team who got only 1 kill got a nice new sniper rifle which looked nice...

So there's issues of weapon balancing, uneven matchmaking and a random chance of ever getting anything after completing a match that's not determined by how well you do in the match itself. Hmmm yeh, think I'll pass on PvP until I'm a much higher level, cheers.

^ The only PvP that really worked for me was Titanfall (also you had no choice) even with 'randoms' it was doable, although since update 6 I have not played anymore as Destiny came along and the matchmaking takes way to long even on hours they previously did not...
Destiny looks to be more like Halo in PvP with twitch players abound, not really my stile, I am to much of a casual player for that.
I hope Destiny story mode can keep me going long enough until the HALO MCC: never played HALO 2 before.
