Shit.  Just found out too that Jirii Fischer went back to the hospital after suffering another abnormal heartbeat.  Get better dude, I've been surrounded by too much death lately.

I guess his career is pretty much over now :(

Gotta worry about Super Mario too. Team Canada's hopes for a repeat gold is in limbo.

Glad he's outta the hospital.

Ethan Moreau is DA MAN!! 2 shorthanded breakaway goals. Oilers win 3-2 over Philly. :D

I read that these heart-problems in NHL could be sign of using steroids and other doping. Maybe Jiri Fischer would use something, but not Mario :)

Lemieux's not gonna be on the team after all. I'm surprised he has such a heart condition but with all the cancer and back surgeries...

I read today that Penguins is going to move from Pitsburgh if they won't get a new arena. Probably just an empty threat to someone who makes decisions about stuff like this. I don't believe they're going anywhere because of crappy arena, if the team's economy is good anyway.

Actually, I don't think the team's economy is doing that well.  From what I've heard they haven't been doing well with fan attendance over the past few years (i.e. attendance has been dropping).   That could be part of the reason why the whole arena thing is a serious issue.  I mean, would you build a new arena if there are no fans to fill in the seats?  The arena that they are using now is around 20-some years old.  Chances are it hasn't seen much in the ways of renovations/maintenance.  But you know what, considering that Pittsburgh is a pretty big sports town, one would think that the issue wouldn't have been drawing so much debate.  When the Pens won the draft lottery and nabbed Crosby, there was talk that it was hoped that all the hype around him (especially playing with Lemieux) would draw the hockey fans back to the games.

The rumors of the Pens moving have been going for some time now.  Apparently Kansas City is looking to get a franchise.  I'm sure the people in Winnipeg would probably like to get NHL hockey back there (though I hear the Moose put on a pretty good show).  At any rate, it's all speculation until an official announcement is made.  Until then, we'll just have to wait and see.

Well I don't know nothing about Penguins' economy. I thought US teams are quite ok with their economy.

It depends. The NHL doesn't have a good TV deal, so they struggle a bit in smaller markets. The Penguins in particular have been on the verge of bankruptcy for years now.

The NFL has a great TV deal and great revenue sharing and a better product, so they tend not to have these problems.

Damn straight the Moose put on a good show.  Ever since they moved to Manitoba from Minnesota, they've been the only pro hockey we've seen.  NHL doesn't come here for exhibition games or anything, so to nab a team like the Penguins would be awesome, although they would definitely preempt the Moose's AHL games.  If NHL came back, I would definitely go and see more games: I guess its one of those things when you don't know what you've got until its gone.

And Bettman is determined to get a Canadian franchise again. Florida or Anaheim had rumblings of moving too. It'd be fuckin great if Winnipeg gets a franchise again. If they wanted rivalries. shit, the ol'Smythe division battles were epic.

Did ya see Jiri Fischer's press conference...shit. not a dry eye in the building. hope he gets back on skates soon.

Thank god for the new NHL.

Despite all that     good comeback by Ty Conklin. Team USA backup for sure but man, too many penalties and Oil drop one in a shootout. I'm starting to hate it now  cuz Oilers lost 2 straight in shootouts.

Poor Canucks fans. Dan Cloutier is out for the season?? 4 months..so they'll be milking the Moose for someone.

Wade Flaherty is the best goalie on the Moose atm, but I don't think they'd take him.  He's getting old and such, but he's still damn good.

And Eddie Olcyzk no longer head coach of the Pens.  Poor guy.  I hope he gets another crack at it.

Yea man. Pens suck cuz ya just don't build a team based on stats. Now Oilers...yea son. We beats Montreal's ass again 5-3!! Fuckin Ethan Moreau brings tears to my eyes with his break neck speed and "put it all on the line" attitude. Reminds ya of #11

thank god for the delay of game penalty. 6 shots in periods 2 and 3 for the Habs! WTF?

Amazing game last nite 5-4 in OT...even better listening to O!P Chans singing while Horcoff was zooming in for the tying goal! Peca! You just earned your 4 million. That backhander was SWEET.

And man, MacT was picking his nose (or was it a scratch?) on national TV XD XD

Trade Rumors:
http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/story/NHL_SC-RUMOR
A big deal could be brewing between the Sabres and Edmonton Oilers, says the Ottawa Sun. Edmonton would send TRW Radek Dvorak, C Marty Reasoner, D Cory Cross and G Ty Conklin to the Sabres in exchange for RW Maxim Afinogenov, D Rory Fitzpatrick and G Mika Noronen.

I want Martin Biron XD XD

Noronen will be moved soon for sure, Sabres have got three NHL level goalies and out of those three, Noronen is the worst. Dude's probably the worst finnish NHL goalie at the moment.

R.I.P. Phyllis "Wayne's mom" Gretzky

Phyllis Gretzky, mother of Wayne Gretzky, succumbs to cancer at 64

TORONTO (AP) - Phyllis Gretzky, the mother of hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky, died Monday night. She was 64.

She was diagnosed with lung cancer late in 2004 and died two nights after her son took an indefinite leave of absence as coach of the Phoenix Coyotes to return home to Ontario to be with her.

"Throughout my career, she was in the background but she was the glue," Wayne Gretzky said at the time of his mother's diagnosis. "She's always been the toughest in the family."

Gretzky, the NHL's career leading scorer, left the Coyotes on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

He also is the executive director of Canada's Olympic hockey team, which is expected to announce its roster for the Turin Games on Wednesday.

It is not known when or if he will return to those jobs.
