The most well-known pair in AKB48 “MayuYukirin” has revived in Monthly AKB48 group Newspaper. Kashiwagi Yuki (21) who will make her solo debut on February 6th with the song “Shortcake”. Watanabe Mayu (18) who served as the Center which used to be Maeda Atsuko (21)’s position who graduated at the end of last year. We have asked them, the two who have become the most important people in AKB48 in 2013, to have a New Year talk. Please enjoy the full “Lovey-dovey talk♥?” of these two close friends.

M: Waa~ Found you~!, but it’s not in such a long time isn’t it? (laughs)

Y: There was a New Year holiday, so it just since the New Year’s performance, right.

M: A~ If I knew we could meet again like this, I would brought souvenir.

Whenever they meet face to face in the studio, they will be in their own world. Although the gravure shooting has already begun, but they are all frisky and frisky. They mess around with each other, with the smile that just like the lovers’ smile.

Y: Ever since the last performance of the old team B (the team B from October 22 last year), this is the first time we have work with just two of us~.

M: Ah, I see~.

M: As I thought, I feel secure.

Y: Secure and stable.

M: Right, because we can be off guard, so we’re at ease. Ufufu.

Your team had changed, so did your relationship change?

M: Our relationship hasn’t changed at all, but in the dressing room for an instant, we would look for each other.

Y: A~ I was like that at first, too.

M: I was like “Yuki~ A, but here is the team A room”.

Y: Hahaha, I know that. I was the same.

M: At first it did happen a lot right.

They are together in AKB48 senbatsu, but…

Y: The chances when we would say “Long time no see~” when we meet there have definitely increased.

M: Certainly.

Y: If we were in the same team then it wouldn’t be “Long time”, right.

M: Yeah yeah, that’s right. Though the theater performance after the New Year began a while ago, we haven’t met each other until today. That’s why our excitement was large.

How do you see the activity in each other’s new team?

M: B looks peaceful. Harmonious. I’ve asked about their popularity, also I’ve felt their atmosphere. I wonder if Yukirin is doing peacefully too~.

Y: I’ve been feeling “Again Mayu is the center”. I’ve heard from Takamina-san.

In the old team B both of them were the centers.

Y:  Recently I’ve come to feel stronger. I’ve been always saying here and there that “Mayu-chan is amazing” ever since the Waiting stage performance started.

M: What? Why? Why?

Y: Eh, I don’t know either. (laughs)

M: What was that? (laughs)

Y: Ufufu.

I’ve become alone at work in team B.

Y: That’s right.

M: Are you lonely? But many from the same generation and the original team B had returned, right?

Y: Right. That’s why I feel like it has become like the old team B.

M: I envy you~. I have no one from the same generation here… Our team has a lot of kouhais so it has become a fresh team.

Until two years before the two from 3rd generation were at a state that shows a light hesitation even though they were in senbatsu, but now they’re completely the center of AKB48, so their career have become plenty.

Y: We basically whenever enter the dressing room, we would sit in the corner, if we are not together we would be like “Maybe she won’t come~” and wait. If I saw her I would call her “Mayu~ Here!”. Even though the kouhais have increased and they tend to sit in the corner too, but our senses won’t change like before, they are the same. For the 9th-generation girls or so they have a lot members from the same generation, but for us 3rd generation in the senbatsu, there are only the two of us.

We’ve asked you two to be on this New Year issue with the thought that you two would be the keymen (important people) of AKB48 in year 2013.

2 of them: What?! Hey hey! (laugh)

We again felt that you two are the role models for the idols even in the shooting.

M: After all?

Y: After all?

How do you two think of each other now?

2 of them: (in unison) She’s definitely an idol.

Y: For me, I’ve always thought that Mayu is an idol.

M: You must be kidding. No no…

Where do you think she’s an idol?

Y: Definitely because she won’t be shaken. I even think like that myself too, but Mayu will definitely move forward.

M: No no no.

Y: Mayu is an idol in everything, even her appearance, her words and her behavior!

M: Until now we’d been working on the same field, same stage a lot, but our team had changed, and she got to get in the Janken Senbatsu the time before, so for the first time I’ve come to watch over Yukirin objectively.

Y: We’d always been next to each other, right? You’ve become objective right, recently?

M: Even the time we are together I feel things pleasingly, but when I watch her objectively, I’ve come to see that “She’s all idol~” even in the small details of the performance. I think her movement and dance are amazing.

We’re glad we could walk on the same path

And now, Kashiwagi-san, finally you got your solo debut.

M: It’ll be soon, won’t it!

Y: Yes. I think I have the different atmosphere with everyone who have had their solo debut so far. Mayuyu’s are all idol songs, Tomochin-san’s are dance songs, Wasamin’s are Enka songs. My song “Shortcake” is a cheerful ballad, the lyrics have a pure content which write about the love between the old playmates.

When we watched the New Year’s music TV show, Kashiwagi-san still had the neat and clean appearance like in French Kiss, and you was being yourself so we had a lot of expectations.

Y: Thank you very much.

Now that you’ve had your solo debut, what’s your feeling?

Y: Ever since New Year I’ve been doing the shooting for the drama “Mielino Kashiwagi” (TV Tokyo, every Friday night at 0:52) that I star. Whenever I get back to the group like today, I can enjoy the benefits of both being solo and being in the group, so it’s interesting.

Just like Watanabe-san in last year.

M: That’s right. I’m extremely happy and glad that we could walk on two completely same paths.

Y: Though Mayu’s being my vanguard in everything, but we both have unit, solo work, drama starring ourselves, so we’re on the same flow.

Last year Watanabe-san had made a great leap at once ever since her solo debut. It seems like Kashiwagi-san can make it like that too, right.

Y: I want to be like that too.

Watanabe-san at that time was really busy with a lot of works, but still you always had great concentration.

M: Right, I was able to concentrate. I also got confidence with works that I was able to finish. It was also a chance to reconsider your own self and I also felt that I’d grown up a lot, so solo debut was a good experience.

From Kashiwagi-san’s POV, how do you see Watanabe-san who had undertaken AKB48’s center position at the end of last year?

Y: First of all, I think that was a big pressure. We’ve always been watching Mayu’s back, haven’t we? On top of that, if you talk about my personal thoughts, I was really happy when Mayu was the one that led us. From deep down my heart I want to support Mayu if she would be the center. I think everyone is thinking the same, too.

M: I-I’m happy…

Y: Mayu would do what need to be done, and she’s working hard without any complaints. That’s why, even Takamina-san or Yuko-chan said that “Mayu’s being broken*”. Maybe for now, she’ll definitely not complain anything to any members or anyone. That’s why, I want Mayu to hold confidence and do her best.

M: I’m happy…

*the original phrase is “まゆはなるべくしてなってる”, but I don’t understand what “narubeku shite natteru” means, so I searched Google but there’s no page that explain the meaning, so I try to read some pages used that phrase to figure out its meaning, but they all have bad meanings, like they use that phrase to talk about some bad facts like spamming for example. So I think what Yuko or Takamina meant here in Yuki’s line is that they are too scared because Mayu won’t complain anything (not in a bad meaning), like they praise her. Anyone knows what that phrase means?

When I look back at the AKB48 at the end of last year, even though you had to go through a shocking year 2012, you had been moving forward very nicely like you had no worries or something. I think it’s going well.

Y: Me too. After Acchan’s graduation it should be a rapid development, but it’s not incoherent. In fact the group is being off to a good start. Indeed the year 2012 was a big change, so far we’re still not in our perfect form, but this is how we are now and if you mean by “Please watch over us from now on” then I have confidence about that.

You mean the direction you are walking now is not wrong?

M: At the end of last year, while we got to experience many things, we challenged and did what we could to the utmost. We even got a good result when we won the Japan Record Award, so I thought “Maybe I was able to help the group a bit”.

At the backstage in the Japan Record Award, I heard that Watanabe-san was took over by a terrible tension that you had never had before.

M: Huh? Even though I tried my best to hide it and didn’t talk to anyone about it? More than being nervous, for some reason my tears kept falling down, so anyway I had to stop my tears first. I was in that state at the stage wing just barely 3 seconds before the shooting.

You suddenly had a heavy pressure as the center on a big stage right. By the way, how did you spend your New Year’s holiday?

Y: For me, I started my drama shooting very soon so I only had 2 days off. I did go out to Disney Resort with a member for one time.

I think we have members that went oversea before…

Y: Even in the day off I had to read the script, and I’d been shooting for the drama without any breaks for one week. I thought I envy with everyone else, but even if I were to have a 1-week break, I think I wouldn’t go anywhere. Because I’m a stay-at-home type of people (laughs). Also I would spend the New Year’s 1-week holiday thinking “Maybe it’d be better if I don’t have the break”. If I took a break I think it would be hard for me to change back (to working mode) again. From the New Year, rather than start both solo and group activity at the same time, I had to start my solo work 1 week earlier than the group activity, so I was able to work feeling good and focusing on my work. That was good.

M: I visited the shrine, prayed, pulled a sacred lot (Omikuji), after that I went on a trip with my family. It’s been a long time since all the members of my family were gathered.

Y: That’s right. You always said that it was hard to have all of them gather together.

M: We can even get to go on a trip, so I was able to refresh much.

She has become an existence that always gives me reassurance

Your duties in AKB48 this year have become more important.

M: Last year I was able to release 3 singles as a solo, even in the group it was a fulfilled year. I just simply want to work harder in solo work this year, and I think works in AKB48 have also become more important than before, so I want to move forward and work even harder.

Kashiwagi-san, you said “You want to become an important existence in AKB48” in the AKB’s trailer video.

Y: We have Takamina-san and Yuko-chan for the organizer role, Mayu is the center. I wonder what would happen to me. Of course I’ll always take what I’ve learned in solo works, I want when everyone have an overview of AKB48, they would feel relieve if I were there. I want to become that kind of existence.

Watanabe-san was also feeling like that the first half of last year. While being busy with solo works, she had a strong presence in every important point even in the group activity.

Y: That’s right, that kind of feeling. Of course I can’t in our state now, so I want to put on all my ability. Precisely because I can focus all my ability on my solo works, I have to improve my skills.

Then last question. Point out 1 member you’re interested in nowadays.

Y: For me, it’s Omori Miyu-chan (14). Miyupon. I’ve been watching her ever since she joint the group, but judging from the gaze of an Idol Otaku, I really like her. Though she doesn’t look gluttonously, she always do it well at the position she was given. She was accompanied with team K members in the National Tour last year. From the members’ gaze, she’s a kind of girl who you would feel relieve in whichever position you entrust her, even from the fans’ gaze she has the atmosphere and face that would surprise them, and her behavior is likable. Even though she isn’t in the senbatsu, but I’m interested in her.

M: You also said Miyupon last time too, right. She looks amazing if she puts on her cover.

Y: If she shows her characteristic, then there’s a possibility that it would become strongest.

How about Watanabe-san?

M: Recently I’ve been into Matsuoka Natsumi-chan (16) from HKT48. I love her face.

Does she look like Kashiwagi-san?

M: A, she sure looks like her~

Y: I’m being told like that a lot.

M: But, her personality is completely different. She’s very friendly. I’ve been saving Natsu’s images into my mobile phone.

Y: I don’t understand that part (laughs).

M: Why why, I love her, because she’s cute. A, I also save Yukirin’s weird faces.

Y: Ahaha.

M: Your face when you won in the Janken Tournament! Don’t you think it’s amazing?

Y: Ahahaha.

M: I saved it in 3 patterns, and I see it as the *thud thud thud* continuous frame-by-frame. (Laughs)

Y: So whenever I call you, those weird faces would appear on the screen. (Forced smile)
