Dallas Cowboys WR Roy Williams on Monday dismissed the controversy surrounding rookie wideout Dez Bryant and his refusal to carry the veteran's shoulder pads.

"If he doesn't want to take the pads, he doesn't have to take the pads," Williams said, via ESPN. "It's not a big deal. We'll just move on."

The Cowboys discussed the issue on Monday, and coach Wade Phillips said there is no rookie initiations that are sanctioned. Bryant had said Sunday he would not participate in the traditional rookie tasks.

Williams, whose starting job Bryant may target, had originally said he might employ other tactics to bully Bryant, but said nothing of that on Monday.

"We talked about it," Williams said. "He wants to concentrate on football. We're going to let him concentrate on football. But, when we go out to eat, I'm gonna be a little bit more hungry and a little bit more thirsty."

Reports: Brett Favre plans to retire

MANKATO, Minn. -- Brett Favre's spectacular stint with the Minnesota Vikings appears to be over.

Favre has informed the Vikings he will not return to Minnesota for a second season, according to multiple reports.

Favre has sent text messages to teammates saying, "This is it," league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Neither Favre nor the Vikings has confirmed the news, but a statement is expected later Tuesday, the sources said.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Tuesday that he has talked to Favre in the past 24 hours, but was unaware of the reports of Favre's apparent decision to retire.

"I'm not a big hearsay person," Childress said. "I've got to hear it from the horse's mouth."

Childress told the NFL Network that the Vikings would be prepared if Favre didn't return.

CANTON, Ohio -- While being inducted into the Hall of Fame, NFL receiving leader Jerry Rice says he believes he still could play.

The man who holds every important pass-catching record as the game breaker in the West Coast offense for the San Francisco 49ers was elected in his first year of eligibility. He became the top receiver in the pro game's most dangerous scheme, combining with Joe Montana and then Steve Young to establish marks that might never be broken.

Rice caught 1,549 passes for 22,895 yards and 208 touchdowns, easily shattering the previous records. He made 10 All-Pro teams, was chosen for 13 Pro Bowls, and made receptions in an almost-unimaginable 274 consecutive games.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Some years it's obvious when a team whiffs on its draft picks. Other years, it's obvious it connected.

Though training camp is only a week old, the early indications are that the Philadelphia Eagles' 2010 draft class was a Ryan Howard-like home run.

Not only did the Eagles have a high quantity of picks -- 13 in all, including four in the fourth round -- but it appears they landed just as much quality. From their first pick to their last, it seems Philadelphia hit paydirt.

Deffinitely excited that my Pats are practicing with the Saints. Picks up the intensity. I like the Saints, but a fan. Picked up tickets to go see them play against Dallas this thanksgiving. Hopefully they give Dallas a good kick in the teeth (sorry. I hate Dallas). Excited to see the pats in action tomorrow.

Jim Devlin said he was just trying to stir the pot by wearing a replica of Donovan McNabb's maroon Washington Redskins jersey on the sideline at Philadelphia Eagles training camp Wednesday morning.

Instead, he believes he stirred up head coach Andy Reid.

Security guards asked Devlin, a 43-year-old from King of Prussia, Pa., to remove the jersey. He told Philadelphia radio station 97.5 The Fanatic he did so without complaint, adding the guard who asked him to remove the jersey said the request came from Reid.

It really doesn't matter when the draft is gonna be. Most likely I won't be able to make it either way. Probably only Sunday - Wed night. I gotta set up my automatic draft picks.

I'm listening to Ron and Fez (SiriusXM Radio 202) and they're having a discussion on how it's ridiculous that the San Fransisco 49'ers are moving 50 miles away from SF towards San Jose but still called the San Fransisco 49'ers and if it would make more sense to just call them the San Jose 49'ers (San Jose is considered a major city and has a higher population than SF). I personally think it's sad that SF is refusing to build a new stadium within SF. SF is beautiful and an amazing stadium can really compliment the city's skyline or bay area. I understand a team that is located in a suburb of a major city that is 10-15 miles away from it's name city (Dallas played/plays in Irvine and Arlignton), but 50 miles!? I think thats way too much. I know of some 49'er season ticket holders that are selling their memberships due to this move.

Vikings break training camp

MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings held their final public practice on another hot, humid morning Thursday, giving the fans some free entertainment in the form of a high-intensity workout with a brief scuffle.

Of course, the shoving and shouting between running back Toby Gerhart and defensive end Ray Edwards, followed by a spirited knock-it-off confrontation of Edwards by defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, didn't answer any of the big questions marks surrounding the defending NFC North champions.

Brett Favre is still not here. Wide receiver Sidney Rice and cornerback Cedric Griffin are still injured.
