Chapter 36

The beautiful woman kept her eyes on the computer screen, consistently tapping the keyboards without stop.  Her colleagues were chatting amongst themselves as they dropped their work during the lunch period.  But the woman preferred to continue working; she didn’t want to risk leaving her work undone.

“Okay, listen up, everyone!” the gym teacher, Yoshizawa-sensei said.  “I’m going to run down to the convenience store and get some lunch for myself.  Anybody want me to pick up something?”

“Oh! Can you get me a tuna sandwich?” Fujimoto-sensei said.

   “I’ll take a coffee, Hii-chan,” Yasuda-sensei requested.

All the other teachers started to make their orders as Yoshizawa-sensei slowly shook her head.

“I can’t bring all that back myself, much less remember it,” she moaned.  “Can someone come with me?”

“I’ll go,” Ishikawa-sensei said, standing up.

“Thanks, Rika-chan,” Yoshizawa-sensei sighed.  “We’ll be back in 10 minutes!”

The two teachers started to leave the teacher’s lounge before Rika pulled Hitomi back by her sleeve.  She nodded at the only teacher who was still seated at her desk, typing away furiously.  Hitomi sighed as she chuckled to herself.  Rika rolled her eyes and also smiled.  She walked over to the working colleague and placed her hand on her shoulder, causing the younger teacher to jump.

“Sorry, Takahashi-sensei,” Rika giggled.  “Did I startle you?”

“Ah, Ishikawa-sensei,” Ai sighed.  “Um, did you need something?”

“Hii-chan and I were just going to run down to the convenience store,” the older teacher said.  “Do you want us to bring you back something?”

“Ah… no, thank you,” Ai smiled.  “I don’t want anything.”

“Are you on a diet or something, Takahashi-sensei?” Hitomi asked, raising an eyebrow.  “Because you don’t need to be, you know?  I haven’t seen you eat lunch in weeks.  When you first came, you had those onigiri from the store.”

“I’m starting to wake up earlier to have bigger breakfasts,” Ai explained.  “I guess it lasts me through the day without lunch.”

“Oh… well, if you need anything, just give us a call, okay?” Rika said, smiling.

   “I will, thank you.”

The two older teachers turned and walked out of the teacher’s lounge.  Takahashi-sensei immediately turned back to her computer and placed her fingers on the keyboard and continued typing.  Her stomach made a low growling sound as her face scrunched up.  Big breakfast?  What a joke.  She always woke up late because of all the dreams of her grandmother that she had at night.  So rather than having a big breakfast, she often ran out with an energy bar in her mouth.  So by lunch time, she was usually famished.

But for some reason, Ai couldn’t get herself to each convenience store food anymore.  Ever since her class representative had started to bring her food, she had gotten way too used to homemade bento.  But since that student had been avoiding her for the past two weeks, Takahashi-sensei hadn’t had lunch in two weeks either.  She would often regret her decision halfway through the afternoon but she still couldn’t help but skip lunch.  So she would often run home and fill her stomach with food in late afternoon, as an early dinner.

And she was way too worried to eat anyway.  All she could think about was Risa these days.  She would wonder about how much she had hurt the young girl when she said she didn’t care for her.  She would wonder about how angry, how miserable the girl might have been that day.  Had Ai made the right choice in the end?  Even if she went along with Risa’s wishes, nothing would’ve come of it.  The end would eventually be the most painful blow of all and the teacher had no desire to put the bean through that.

Suddenly, an ice-cold sensation was felt on Takahashi-sensei’s cheek.  The teacher jumped, letting out a loud man-scream.  She whipped around with wide eyes to spot an unexpected person behind her, suppressing her laughter.

“Gaki-san!” Ai yelled.  “What are you—”

“Shh!” the student hushed, putting a finger to her lips.  She nudged her head to the back, where a group of teachers sitting around a coffee table were staring at Takahashi-sensei, alarmed by her loud scream.  Ai laughed nervously.

“Haha… sorry about that,” she mumbled.

“Mou, sensei, you’re really loud,” Risa giggled.  “And you seemed so lifeless just a second again, with your shoulders all droopy and stuff.”

“Gaki-san, what are you doing here?” Ai whispered, still shocked by the sudden appearance of the girl who had avoided her all these days.

“Well, you seemed a little down today,” the bean grinned, holding up a can of soda, “so I brought you a drink.  You did the same for me last time, didn’t you?”

   “I-I think so…”

“And I brought you lunch,” Risa continued, holding up a bento box in her other hand.  “Mou, sensei, have you been skipping lunch these days?  I always hear from the next door class that you’re so lifeless during lecture.”

“Well… I’ve been… wait, I’m still…” Ai mumbled, still not comprehending this situation.  Was this a dream?  Why was Risa being so friendly towards her?  It was as if the confession had never happened.

“Come on, sensei, let’s go eat outside,” the student grinned.  “If we don’t go now, the lunch period will be over before we know it!”

With that, the bean quickly shoved the soda can in her teacher’s hand as she grabbed the other wrist.  Then, she pulled Ai out of her chair and quickly dragged her out of the teacher’s lounge before she could be asked any questions.  She skittered down the hallway, through the doors, and out to the courtyard until she finally reached the big tree where she had been rejected two weeks ago.  Risa let go of her teacher, who was still catching her breath from the running, and sank down to the grass.  She opened the bento and presented her good old homemade food to the teacher.

“Sit down, Sensei,” Risa ordered, looking up.

Still confused, Ai slowly kneeled and sat down on the grass.  The bean inched over closer until their arms barely touched and grabbed the chopsticks.  She reached for the chicken in the bento, picked it up, and held it up to her teacher’s mouth.

“Ah~” she said.  “Come on, Sensei, open your mouth!”

   “A-ah…”

Risa put the chicken in and pulled the chopsticks back.  She carefully watched her teacher chew the food as she bit her lips.

“How is it?” she asked softly?

“It’s very good…” Ai said, swallowing the food.  She smiled a little, unable to help but be pleased with this situation.  Yes, she was still wondering if this was a dream but she didn’t care if it was.  She was happy now and she was going to savor this moment.

“Here, have some more,” Risa insisted with a big grin on her face.

The teacher took the chopsticks from her student and started to dig in.  Everything she ate felt just right in her stomach.  She had missed this kind of food for the past two weeks.  And as she finished up the bento without question, she slowly convinced herself that this wasn’t a dream since the food tasted pretty real.

“Slow down, Sensei, you’re going to be sick later if you keep that up,” Risa chuckled, opening the soda can and handing it to the older woman.

Ai silently took the drink and gulped it down along with the food in her mouth.  She exhaled heavily as she put the empty bento down on the grass.

“That was heavenly, Gaki-san,” Ai laughed.  “I missed your cooking.”

“Really?” Risa asked, her eyes sparkling.  “I’ll start to make them again, everyday.”

“… Why?” the teacher asked slowly, now turning to look at her student with a serious yet curious expression.

“What do you mean why?” the bean said, raising an eyebrow.

“Why are you suddenly like this again?” Ai rephrased.  “Why did you suddenly come with a bento again?  Why aren’t you avoiding me anymore?”

“… I’ve decided,” Risa said, closing the bento box and looking up with a small smile.  “I’ve decided that, even if you don’t hold the same feelings for me, the feelings I have for you are still special, no matter what.  And I want to continue to treasure those feelings.  That’s why I won’t give up, Sensei.  I’m going to chase after you.  I’m going to follow you around in school like a teacher’s pet and get you look at me.”

Ai let out a sigh.  She slowly started to shake her head.  “Gaki-san—”

“Sensei, can ask you a favor?” Risa interrupted quickly, staring at her teacher with determined eyes.

   “… What is it?”

“Will you give me permission…” the bean started, biting her lips, “to continue loving you?”

   “Gaki-san, I already told you that I don’t—”

“I know you don’t have the same feelings for me as I do for you,” Risa said quickly.  “But… I still can’t stop my own heart.  I’m only human.  I… I won’t bother you or anything so please just… just let me love you by myself.  Just let me continue to stay beside you like this.  Will you give me permission?”

“… I don’t want you to waste your time on me, Gaki-san,” Ai said in a low voice.

“You’re cruel, Sensei,” the younger girl chuckled.  “Saying that me chasing my love is a waste of time…”

   “That’s not what I—”

“I don’t need anything from you, Sensei,” the bean said, grinning.  “Just… just know that there’s a girl named Niigaki Risa who is sincerely in love with you.  And that’ll satisfy me.  So can I run after you?”

“… Well, I’m only human too,” Takahashi-sensei sighed.  “I can’t stop you from yourself either.  It’s your choice.”

   “Thank you,” Risa said softly.

She looked down and smiled to herself, happy that her teacher didn’t reject her this time around.  Subconsciously, she reached for Ai’s hand that was on her lap and let her own skin touch with Ai’s.  But the teacher immediately pulled the hand away and even turned her head to the side.  Risa took her hand away as well and bit down on her lips, embarrassed by her own actions.  However, part of her felt angry about how Ai just seemed so cautious around her now.  She wanted things to be normal again.  Maybe it would never be like it was before her confession but it would be nice to get things as normal as it can be.

Frustrated, Risa looked up again and leered at her teacher.  Before she could stop herself, she craned her neck forward and quickly pecked Ai on her cheek.  The older woman whipped around with a soft gasp as she put her hand to her cheek.  Risa could immediately feel her cheeks burning up as she met her teacher’s wide eyes.

“You… S-stop being so awkward, Sensei!” the bean blurted out, frowning.  “Be more normal!  Mou!”

Before Ai could even reply back, Risa picked herself up along with the bento box and ran out of the courtyard.  Takahashi-sensei exhaled sharply, and started to laugh.

I’m the one who just got attacked and she’s yelling at me? She thought, chuckling.

She sighed and leaned back against the tree.  She ran her fingers through her hair and smiled sadly.

You’re really killing my resolution here, Gaki-san…

For the pivotal chapter I'm guessing for an encounter by chance for TanaKame at the convenience store where they first met and then Reina will decide that she doesn't care anymore about Eri's gender and go for it :yep:
And then the special chapter will be Eri and Reina getting back together... Gah there's no smiley with stars in the eyes, I need that one

Yeah! Go get your girl pro-active Gaki!

This sort of complete switch of positions was great where we had nervous bumbling Ai and confident Gaki, though I think that maybe Gaki got a bit over confident with the kiss  seems as though she was more shocked than Ai about it!

Mind you, it didn't seem that Ai wasd that bothered by it, infact Ai seemed pleased.......

@Tchips: lol yeah, i have the next 10 chapters planned so...  XD

@Shiawase_Honoo: lol wait one more day?  :nervous

@Haruka: lol no prob~ :lol:

So... I was gonna update tonight.... then I lost track of time... and now, it's only like, three-quarters done :sweatdrop:
So I'll update tomorrow...  :nervous
I'm really sorry, but i have to go to bed now; big day tomorrow :)

So instead, just for chatting sake: I made an error in my plot  :shocked
I completely forgot that I used the buono girls in the Cafe Buono scene from the early chapters, where TanaKame had the couple game... But I recycled Miya and Airi in Junjun's gang by mistake... my bad  :banghead:
From here on out, they're part of the gang, not the cafe! I don't think I'm ever bringing the same cafe back... if i need a cafe, i'll make a new one :nervous
Again, sorry about that :kneelbow:

One more thing: So I recently found out the next e-Hello DVD series person is Reina!  It's untitled but the picture released the exact image I have of Reina from this fic:

I actually imagine her with straight long hair a lot but the bun works too.  The point is that she has a very natural look, unlike the pigtails and glitters and ribbons she usually has on, you kno?  :D

Okay, so that was just my fail rant. I'll definitely update tomorrow! :twothumbs

Okay, so SarangAi, I have to confess, you are an extremely good updater… in a little over two weeks, you’ve gotten about 6 chapters out already. That would be something of a miracle for me  :nervous  but yes, first of all, just wanted to thank you for putting in the effort to get these out very quickly, and keeping the pace up *thumbs up* You always impress me with the rate of your updating…

Well anyway… first thing’s first: about the poll…  XD

I’m a little bummed that everybody is choosing school life again… but on the other hand, I’m glad to hear that you will have more in store for us than just pretty girls in uniform. I personally picked fantasy (I’m a fan, what can I say ). Action, fantasy or sci-fi; any of these would be really interesting to see – a far cry from what you’ve shown us of your stories so far, and that was where my genuine interest came from. K-drama/school life are kind of meh at this point since you’ve already satisfied these genres quite well. ^__^

OK – so 6 chapters. Let’s go through them. YOSH!  :cow: :cow: :cow:

Chapter 30:

Wow. I think this must be the longest of all the chapters you’ve written for this story so far. I loved the length! <3 You should write more lengthy ones like this, it really helps with the momentum, imo.

Anyway… a great update with this one; JunSayu progressing very nicely with their relationship… this is the kind of progression I would’ve personally liked to have seen in TanaKame… but I’m not complaining, I’m totally digging this couple right now!

Sayu taking on yet another challenge.. lol. I’d love for her to go through these tests every week. Nothing like a bit of weekly (or should we say daily? xD) JunSayu bonding, seriously <3

Nice intro’ing some of the c-ute and Berryz girls into this xD For a bunch of delinquents, they sure are a nice group, inviting out loser Sayu to hang and have fun with them ^___^ if they didn’t have that kind of label, I would’ve mistaken them for some kind of peer support group  :nervous  it’s really nice to see Sayu being pushed to come out of her shell a little, and try to mingle…

Quote
“You… you better not be thinking of…” Sayumi mumbled, starting to blush.

   “Thinking of… what?”

“You know… that… I’m not going to do that with you!”

LOL.

Sayu <3
Stop giving Jun ideas <3
xD

And all that karaoke fun!!!! Watching as Sayu slowly joined in, it was a very nice to read about *___*

Quote
As Sayumi watched everybody enjoying themselves, she found herself pleasantly surprised.  All these girls were yankiis in a delinquent gang yet they were still having fun just like regular teenagers.

These yankiis I guess are the gentle kind; I would really like for you to one day maybe write about REAL yankiis, the unforgiving, merciless kind that you really might find in the yakuza

As much as gentle yankiis are cool, they’re not edgy enough to make things as exciting as it could be…

And Jun swinging down floors via a tree?
Now that’s something that would be really funny to read about!

Quote
She quickly looked at the panda next to her, who was drinking some soda out of a glass.  When she put down the cup, Sayumi could see that the bunny band-aid that she had used earlier was still on Junjun’s hand.

ZOMG!
Junjun with a bunny band-aid?!?!? I vote that the cutest thing I’ve read in this story so far! :3

Quote
Junjun started to sing a long solo to herself again as Sayumi danced and bobbed along.  She knew all the girls were watching her but surprisingly, she didn’t feel embarrassed.  She didn’t care if she looked good or bad; all she cared about was keeping this energy inside of her at a high level.  She didn’t care whether she sounded bad or not

….

Junjun sang the chorus, staring right at her with a smile.  Sayumi wasn’t afraid to sing to her this time around either.

   “Only, only, only, only, only!”

 :onioncheer:

Sayu opening up and enjoying life again! <3 I really like the way you described and built up this scene. Nice.  :thumbsup

JunSayu duet FTW! <3 So cute. :3

Quote
Sayumi snatched the cigarette from the panda’s hand but immediately dropped it when her skin felt like it had been burned.  She had obviously grabbed it by the wrong end.  But she ignored her pain and quickly stepped on the cigarette to grind it on the concrete.

“Hey, you have to be careful!” Junjun yelled, taking Sayumi’s hand and observing her fingers.  “You don’t seem that badly burned, thank goodness…”

Both of them caring about each other in different ways *sighs* I really wanted to scream to them to get together already… ‘coz ya know, at this point, they should be butting heads and everything. This is a rivalry, after all. But ever so slowly, their actions are betraying this fact.
Sayu gets bonus points because she damned that cigarette to hell, where it belongs. :)

Quote
“Your welcome,” Junjun smiled.  “But be careful next time, okay?”

“No, not my finger,” Sayumi said, shaking her head.  “I’m saying… just thanks… for letting me hang out here today.”

The first acknowledgement from Sayu that she appreciates Jun. YATTA! <3

All the JunSayu talk later I really enjoyed… getting to know a bit more about each other. Yet again signs that they’re willing to move past their differences…

Quote
“Well, you can say whatever you want to me.  I’ll be listening to you.”

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww~!

*Bee melts into puddle of goo*

Quote
Unconsciously, the panda swooped forward and met the bunny’s lips with her own.  She gently moved against the soft skin, unable to stop her actions.  She wanted to kiss her.  She wanted to kiss her so much, she didn’t care much for the consequences.  But why…?

:mon inluv: :mon inluv: :mon inluv:

Why Junjun asks? Isn’t it obvious? xD

Quote
But unfortunately, her first reaction was to slap Junjun across her face.

Much like the first time this happened, if I recall correctly?  >____<
Sayu just isn’t certain enough about her feelings towards Jun, and her well-built defensive instincts kicking in big time here.
I’m not too worried though. Like you said, you are SarangAi, and you’re a sucker for happy endings. I have a gut feeling JunSayu will end happily too. xD hehe..

Chapter 31:

Yeah, she’s totally hot, the boy thought as he texted his friend in another classroom.  I don’t really care about history and all but I could seriously listen to this shit all day if I can stare at her bod

If I were in this class, I’d fangirl Takahashi sensei with him… :wriggly:
I can’t imagine a soul out there who could think any less of Ai-chan.

Quote
“Thank you,” the teacher said.  “Now please do me a favor and pick up that chalk behind you?  It’s a shame that it broke; it was my last piece.”

“By the way, I wasn’t really going to hit you with the chalk,” Ai said, smiling.  “I just wanted to get your attention a little.”

 :OMG:

*speechless*
Where did THAT come from?!?!?!
I have a feeling Ai’s got more history she’s been hiding from her Gaki-san…
Scary Takahashi sensei is scary… >____>

Quote
She turned to look at Eri, who had a very confused expression on.  Obviously, the turtle was still a little slow at understanding Ai’s character.

I can totally see that face. We’ve only seen it a few thousand times during her time in Momusu. XD
Makes me want to squish her  X3

“I’m sorry to ask you this at the last minute,” the student started, “but will you be able to meet me after school today by the courtyard tree where we always eat?  I have… uh… something to tell you.”

:bleed eyes:
I had the WORST feeling in the pit of my stomach reading through this.
… Ai’s rejection is inevitable, isn’t it?

Quote
So there’s no way to avoid this, she thought, sighing.  Well, one heart is about to be broken… or two.

:farofflook:
NNOOOOOOOOO!!!! Ai-chan ;_________;
So she really, really, really does care for the bean deep down… >_____>
*Bee is sad*

Chapter 32:

Stop babbling, Risa, you sound like an aho.  What are you, Kameha?

That wasn’t a very nice thought, Gaki-san… XD
But thank you for the laugh, anyhow
Oh. Please get ready for your rejection too.  :badluck:

Quote
“What I mean to say is…” Risa hesitated, fumbling with the cluster of words in her mouth, “I think… I’ve fallen in love with you.  No, I know that I’m in love with you!  I really like you and I want to be with you, Sensei… and if you will accept my feelings—”

   “I can’t.”

Risa looked up with wide eyes as she got a clear look at her teacher’s face.  Ai’s expression was hardened as she was gently biting down on her bottom lip.  She was avoiding eye contact with the bean but the aura she was giving off was enough to give Risa a hint.

:fainted:  :mon cry:
This… was really heartbreaking. . . . . . . . . *Bee cries for Gaki-san*
Reading through most of this chapter, I felt somehow really embarrassed for Risa. >.<

Quote
“… Gaki-san, you’re a very beautiful girl,” Ai started, stilling keep her gaze to the side.  “You’re smart and kind and pure and everything that I ever wanted to be.  Thanks to you, I think I’ve achieved maybe a quarter of what you are.  But I still don’t want someone like me to be with a girl like you.  You should find a more a suitable person your own age.”

LOOK AT AI-CHAN IN DENIAL!!!!
:mon whine: :scolding:
Gosh… look at what she thinks of the bean ( :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: ), and then to end everything by simply saying she doesn’t want somebody like her to be with Risa. Those kinds of rejections are the worst; they’re frustrating, and sound like excuses. Might as well say, “I don’t want to be with you.”

Quote
* RISA GETS VERY ANGRY AT SENSEI*

Even in her state, she was able to scold her teacher like that. ;______;

Quote
“That’s my main reason for rejecting you.  I don’t have the same feelings towards you.  I see you as my student—a special student, but a still a student—nothing more, nothing less.”

OUCH.
Ai should’ve said that first thing. And save Risa all that embarrassing talk. =____________=

Quote
Suddenly, the short-haired girl felt something wet traveling down her cheeks.  Before she knew it, her entire face felt soaked.  How odd… she was smiling, yet the tears were uncontrollable… because they were tears from the heart.  A young 17-year-old girl could only contain so much emotion.

:gyaaah: :gyaaah: :gyaaah: :gyaaah:
This part really got to me… poor thing.

Quote
She clenched her hand into a fist as if to hold on to something, to herself.
This… is the best way… right?

:tantrum:

YOU DUMMY!

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Chapter 33 & 34:

The gloominess of both these fics (Kamei/Gaki & Reina, respectively) was kinda fun to read, albeit a little depressing. But knowing you SarangAi, you can't leave them hanging all sad and angsty like this for too long.

So... in these two chapters… everybody kinda just @___@ about their situations… but of course, with the sharing of such feelings, and the supportive characters, we have two chapters here where the encouragement of best friends reigns supreme. While it may not have reached out to the reluctant Reina as much, GakiKame are able to give each an extremely needed morale boost. <333

Quote
“We’re really pathetic,” Risa suddenly said, breaking the silence.  “Look at us, we’re being total bums!  The television is on but it’s on mute because we’re too depressed to even watch a show properly.  That has got to be the most fail thing I have done in my life.”

I’m glad somebody noticed.
GakiKame depressed isn’t how it’s supposed to be! These two fun-loving kookies need to be mucking around and joking, that’s the only image I have of them in my head ^^;
But they finally were able to get out of the slump and feel motivated to do something. I’m surprised it was the turtle that managed to give such good advice, to start off this chain reaction of good feelings. Why didn’t this happen a little earlier? XD

Quote
“You have to look at her with your heart, Senpai!” Linlin sighed.

LIN LIN!  :nya:

Quote
“You’re being overdramatic, Jun,” Reina said, laughing softly.  “I’m perfectly fine.  I’ve really moved on now, I promise.  I’ve calmed down quite a bit since… that incident… and I’ve decided to just forget about it.  I won’t be discouraged by this little set back.”

“… Alright, if you say so…” Junjun sighed, giving up.  I don’t even want to argue with this girl anymore.  Sorry, Kame-chan, you’ll have to be patient for a little longer, since this girl is idiotic enough to lie to herself and not realize it.

Perfectly fine… pfffffffftttt.
Reina can delude herself all she wants, but it’s sorely obvious she’s still attached to the turtle.
I am once again, delighted that Jun is such an awesome character. I might’ve given up in such a situation, but she still holds onto the faith that Reina and Eri can get back together. <333

Chapter 35:

 :cow: :cow: :cow: :cow: :cow:

This chapter was a bit of an awwwwww~ chapter for me...

Jun Jun letting play thing Sayu go, finally, realising that that deep down, she cares for the bunny... and bunny herself unsure about what to do with the sudden feelings of emptiness now that she's free. I agree, Sayu, nothing like a few challenges to do a week to keep the adrenalin pumping and school life more interesting than it should be.  :thumbsup

The whole little yankii gang here was really cute!  their little conversations with each other are always amusing to read

Quote
“Aika, we’re going to get arrested if you use that thing,” Junjun laughed.  “Don’t you have something else to signal us?”

“Aw…  But I really wanted to use a gun…” Aika pouted.  “It’s what they do at professional races!”

 :luvuluvu:

What a cute little yankii this one is... lol

Quote
Junjun looked back at the pale-skinned girl, who was using all her energy to continue on forward.  The yankii smiled, realizing this kind of Sayumi was more beautiful than the non-smiling, antisocial kind.

You’re really doing your best, huh? She thought.  It would be frustrating if your efforts go to waste…

And then Jun gives it up.

Like I said. Junjun RULES. <3

Quote
“… You really cared about her,” Linlin said.

   “Did I?” Junjun chuckled.

“It’s a shame,” the younger panda sighed.  “I really genuinely liked Shige-san, unlike the other girls Jun-senpai hit on…”

“Me too,” Aika mumbled.  “She could be kind of rude but she had her sweet moments.  I really liked her.”

Yeah, Junjun thought, smiling sadly.  Me too…

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.

:mon cry: :mon cry:

Touching little bit at the end here… I wonder how JunSayu will happen now, though XD

Looking forward to it!

Chapter 36:

First of all, YAY for another TakaGaki chapter!

Secondly, I like that this chapter is on a much more positive note; the last few chapters have been kinda gloomy with these two, so it's nice to see Risa acknowledging her feelings and taking charge.  :yep:

You also had very slight undertones of IshiYoshi here, which I always enjoy reading, of course  :inlove:
And a school that has Rika, Yossie, Mikitty & Ai-chan as teachers?!  :dizzy:
I'd go back to school and study just to be around them...  :luvluv2:

Quote
Ever since her class representative had started to bring her food, she had gotten way too used to homemade bento.  But since that student had been avoiding her for the past two weeks, Takahashi-sensei hadn’t had lunch in two weeks either.

Awwwww~

Poor Ai-chan!!! ;_____;
That's quite bittersweet right there... she's obviously missing that great homemade food, made with such love  :(

Quote
And she was way too worried to eat anyway.  All she could think about was Risa these days.

Well, there ya go...

TakaGaki!  :cow:

The next part when Gaki-san does a sneak attack and pretty much drags Ai out of the teaher's lounge - are you sure it's okay for something like that to happen?  XD
Even more so in Japan, where teacher respect is way up there... I kind of found this bit a little strange to read (was expecting maybe a Nakazawa sensei to come out and slap the bean off Ai-chan and spend the lunch disciplining her..  :P).

Quote
“Ah~” she said.  “Come on, Sensei, open your mouth!”

   “A-ah…”

As sweet as that should be, I was again, a little weirded out  XD

I guess even after all my TakaGaki raving, I still can't forget that the two of them are teacher-student... if this was something that happened away from the school grounds, with Ai-chan out of teacher mode, I may have done a bit of squealing :3

Quote
“That was heavenly, Gaki-san,” Ai laughed.  “I missed your cooking.”

Sensei not speaking from the heart!!!!

Quote
“… I’ve decided,” Risa said, closing the bento box and looking up with a small smile.  “I’ve decided that, even if you don’t hold the same feelings for me, the feelings I have for you are still special, no matter what.  And I want to continue to treasure those feelings.  That’s why I won’t give up, Sensei.  I’m going to chase after you.  I’m going to follow you around in school like a teacher’s pet and get you look at me.”

 :nya: :nya: :nya:

OKAY, YOU GOT ME HERE, GAKI-SAN...  :k-inlove:

Quote
Before she could stop herself, she craned her neck forward and quickly pecked Ai on her cheek.  The older woman whipped around with a soft gasp as she put her hand to her cheek.  Risa could immediately feel her cheeks burning up as she met her teacher’s wide eyes.

 :OMG:

WHOA! Bold bean... but I liked it  :w00t:  :inlove:

Gaki-san really taking charge here. Although, when she proposed to Ai that it would remain a one-sided love, I was imagining her to watch her sensei from afar, not attack her with her lips first thing off

Quote
She sighed and leaned back against the tree.  She ran her fingers through her hair and smiled sadly.

You’re really killing my resolution here, Gaki-san…

*stomps on Ai-chan's resolution*

DIE! DIE! DIE!!!

Oh yay, at the end of this commenting spree... *phew*

PIVOTAL CHAPTER NEXT! YOSH!  :onioncheer:

I guess having sat through your earlier story, I've been kinda waiting for a flood of pervs to come in...  lol but looks like it may never happen... or at least, not until things settle down for all our characters. <3

Thanks for your consistent updates, SarangAi. I enjoyed them all immensely

Looking forward to MORE!

@Beecubed: Wow that was... AMAZING.  Have I mentioned yet how much I love you?  If I haven't, well here it is: I LOVE YOU  :mon love: :mon love: :mon firecrack: :gmon love2:  Your comments/critiques/analysis helps soooo much~~ and I TOTALLY appreciate everything you write.  I read every word and laughed at some, nodded at some thinking, "AHH~ Sou ka!"  :glasses: :hehehe: :hee: :bingo:  Point is, thank you for the awesomely long comment  :kneelbow:

And as for the genre of the next fic, I'm not sure what I'm doing yet.  i might just mesh something up together but I hope nobody will be too mad if i just make the poll as a survey rather than the thing that actually makes decisions... i mean, i wanna test my skills too :nervous

Chapter 37

The knock on the door continued on and on at a constant pace, refusing to stop.  It was like a woodpecker finding its food in the morning, stubbornly hitting the tree over and over again.  Soon, it got annoying enough to drag Reina off her couch and send her to the front door.  She had heard the rhythmic knocking from its first contact with the wood, since the television was turned on but muted after all, but she had tried to ignore it.  But eventually, she couldn’t take it anymore and gave up.  The kitten trudged up to the door and opened it.

   “Who is—”

“Konbanwa, Reina-senpai!” three girls said in unison with bright smiles.  “Can we come—”

Before the visitors could even finish their sentence, the ex-yankii slammed the door and shuffled back to the sofa.  She dropped back down and snuggled up inside the blankets again to stare at the TV.  She heard the front door opening again as the loud chatting started.

“Mou, senpai!” one voice complained.  “That was kind of rude, wasn’t it?”

“It almost hit my nose too,” the second voice whined.  “Look, Mittsi!  Is it bruised?”

“So the first thing you do when you see us is you slam the door, Reina?” another voice laughed as it got closer to the living room.  A black-haired girl poked her head in and grinned.  “That’s pretty cruel.  You wound me, my friend!”

“I knew you guys were going to find a way in anyway so why bother locking you out?” the kitten grumbled.  “So the least I could do was take my frustration out on the door.”

“Well, we always bring snacks, don’t we?” Junjun chuckled.  “And Aika and Linlin usually cook something for you too.  So we’re not exactly freeloaders, right?”

“Pay my electricity and gas bills, then we’ll talk,” Reina muttered.

“Then we’ll talk after I get a job,” Aika said brightly, also poking her head in.  “Linlin and I’ll get started on some snacks.  Anything you want in particular, senpai?”

“Ooh!  I’m the mood for some chocolate covered bananas!” Junjun said.

“I was asking Tanaka-senpai,” Aika said flatly.  She disappeared from the living room and walked into the kitchen across the hall as Linlin followed behind her, giggling, with an arm full of groceries.

“Aw, come on, I’m your leader right now, you know?” Junjun called behind them, chuckling.

“Why must you always come to my house to intrude on my privacy?” Reina moaned, clutching her head between her hands.

“Hey look, I was just worried, alright?” the panda sighed.  “You didn’t come to school today.”

   “I was sick,” Reina mumbled.

   “With what?  I-only-watch-TV-on-mute-itis?” Junjun smirked.

   “Not funny,” the kitten groaned.

“Look at yourself, Reina,” Junjun started again, sounding a bit more serious.  “When I came to check up on you last time, I though you looked bad then.  Today, you look even worse.  You’re hair was in a bun before; that’s tolerable.  But today, it’s in a ponytail.  A single, low, plain, not curly, ponytail.  It’s just so… normal.  And effortless.  You never wear your hair like that.”

“It was getting in the way,” the ex-yankii muttered.

“You’re dressed in a tank-top with a hoodie.  And sweatpants.  Assuming you’ve been wearing that for the whole day, that’s not very much like you either.  The Reina I know is the type that can’t get through one day without being fashionable for at least ten minutes.”

“I think hoodies are in this season,” Reina mumbled.

“You need better excuse than that, Tanaka,” Junjun said, smiling.  “Come on, just accept it.  There’s something bothering you.  You’ll feel better after you say it.”

“There’s nothing bothering me,” the shorter girl said through her teeth.  “Now leave me alone.”

“… You know,” the panda suddenly said in a different tone, “while I was getting the groceries with Aika and Linlin, I saw someone familiar.”

“Great story, now go away,” the ex-yankii growled.

“I wasn’t sure who it was at first,” Junjun continued, ignoring her previous leader’s comment, “but I later realized it was actually Kame-chan.”

“You call her ‘Kame-chan’?” Reina asked, immediately turning her head and narrowing her eyes.  “Since when were you close enough to use nicknames on Eri?”

“Since I got to know her a little better,” the panda smirked.  “Why, jealous?”

“Hardly,” Reina scoffed, turning back to the TV.

“Hm.”  The yankii leader smiled as she examined Reina’s seemingly calm face.  “Anyway, I was about to go say hi but she was with someone so I didn’t.  It was a really cute girl, with short brown hair and this gorgeous smile.  I would’ve totally picked her up if she and Kame-chan didn’t seem so… you know, tight.  I think I heard her name was “Risa-chan” or something.  They seemed really close.”

“They’re just childhood friends!” Reina suddenly yelled, glaring at the panda next to her.  “She’s not anything special to Eri in that way!”  The kitten remembered vaguely about Eri talking about a friend she knew since she was young, after she avoided the subject about her “American” mother.  Her name was “Risa”; Reina was pretty sure.  Come to think of it, wasn’t the name that Eri called out when she walked in on her changing also “Risa”?

“Woah, calm down there, girl,” the panda grinned.  “I’m just telling you what I saw.  And how do you know who this Risa girl is?  Have you met her?”

“Well, no…”  Suddenly, Reina had flashback again, when she was climbing up the stairs to Eri’s place.  There was a short-haired girl who was skittering down the steps who smiled at her as she walked by.  Maybe that girl was Risa… But did she really mean something more than a friend to Eri?”

“Well then, how do you know if they’re not an item?” Junjun pushed on. “It’s been two weeks already, and Eri is a pretty girl.  She can find herself a new girlfriend.”

“… Good, then we can both move on like that.”

Reina turned back to the TV, trying to suppress the overflowing emotions in her chest.  There were so many things to comprehend: anger, frustration, misery, jealousy, confusion… She didn’t which was the strongest.  She tried to tell herself that this was perfect, just what she wanted; if Eri was spending time with other girls, than she was moving on to other people.  And now, Reina could also move on with her life as well.  Everything was perfect…

“Okay, that’s it,” Junjun sighed, frowning.  “I’m not going take a roundabout way anymore.  I did see Eri and this “Risa” girl together but it was obvious they were just friends; no chemistry there, they were like sisters.  My question to you is this: does it really matter that much?”

“Does what matter?” the ex-yankii muttered.

“Does it really matter if someone is a boy or a girl?” the panda yelled.  “Does it really matter which uniform this person wears?  She loves you more than anyone else!  All those other guys you went out with in the past doesn’t even compare to the person you threw out two weeks ago, and you know it.”

“No, I don’t know!” Reina shouted back, glaring at her friend.  “Who the hell do you think you are to tell me these things?  I know what I feel towards that person and it’s only contempt!  You know why?  Because she lied to me!  She didn’t have enough guts to tell me the truth and be honest with me!”

“Reina, you really don’t see yourself clearly, do you?” Junjun said in a low voice.  “If Eri came right out from the start and told you she was a girl, would have been happier then?  You wouldn’t have even considered the slightest possibility that she could be something more special to you than anything else.”

   “That’s—”

“A lie?” the panda scoffed.  “Tell me, would you still have kept Eri close to you like you did if you knew she wasn’t a boy?”

The room was silent.  Reina continued to glare at her friend, fury burning in her eyes.  But Junjun just stared right back with the same amount of force.  The kitten bit down on her lips.  Things in the kitchen suddenly got quiet too; Aika and Linlin were obviously listening in.  But Reina didn’t care.  She knew Junjun was right.  If Eri was a girl… they wouldn’t have even gone this far.

“Eri knew you were close-minded,” the panda said quietly, “and you know you are too.  But she still loved you, Reina.  And I’m willing to bet she still does.”

“… What the hell am I supposed to do?” the kitten mumbled under her breath, looking down at her hands.  “It’s already over anyway.  She’s not calling me anymore and we’re through.”

“All you have to do is answer just one question,” Junjun replied, smiling warmly.  “What do you want the most right now?”

Reina looked up a little as she started to think.  What did she want?  She thought she had spent her whole life doing what she wanted as a yankii: smoking, raiding, getting high… but none of it had satisfied her.  Then she had tried doing what others wanted for once and moved out at her father’s request after her mother’s death.  Yet there was still a storm in her heart.  There was nothing she truly wanted…

Flashes of images started to spin through Reina’s head like a film strip.  The pretty boy at the convenience store… ice cream at the park… competitions at the café… confession at her own living room… kisses at the aquarium… All the things she could remember and the only things she wanted to remember were these memories.  The only happy memories she has of this place, and the person that created it all… Short light brown hair, baby-like complexion, bright smile…

   “Aitai…” Reina whispered, her eyes widening, “I want… to see… Eri… I have to see… Eri…”

The kitten jumped up from the couch and ran towards the front door.  She quickly shoved her feet into her sneakers as she zipped up the sweatshirt she was wearing and put the hood on.

“O-oi!  Where are you going?” Junjun asked, quickly following her out of the living room.

   “Out,” Reina said simply.

“Dressed like that?” the panda inquired.

“I don’t care how I’m dressed!” Reina said quickly.  “Lock the door for me.”

“Can the girls and I sleep over?” Junjun asked, smiling.

“Do whatever you want, I don’t care,” Reina said before she ran out.

Junjun chuckled to herself as she closed the door and locked it.  She turned around to see her two underlings, poking their heads out from the kitchen.

“Is… everything alright?” Linlin asked carefully.

“Yeah, I think it’s cool,” the older panda grinned.  “I had to shove her in the right direction rather than push, but I think the results were the same.”

“You think Tanaka-senpai is coming back for dessert?” Aika asked.

Junjun smirked as she walked over to the kitchen.  “Looks like we got the place to ourselves tonight,” she said, “because I don’t think Reina is coming back any time soon.”
