Trivia: either Tony La Russa or Jim Leyland will join Sparky Anderson as the only manager to win World Series titles in both leagues.

HAHA!! Good job Sab. WOW!! Whatta fuckin game, Adam Wainright strikes out Beltran, bases freakin loaded. Classic!!

And what's this thing Leyland was under LaRussa in ChiSox days? Cool!

I dunno, I wonder if Tigers will pitch to Pujos...props to Willie Randolph for going against the grain and putting out starters who had some good innings.

Can't wait for SATURDAY!! Cards will win it! GIMME ALL 7!!

Bill Simmons's running account of Game Seven of the NLCS: http://tinyurl.com/ybjatq

MLB.com has a piece on Endy's catch: http://tinyurl.com/yd3lga  First time I have EVER seen a curtain call for a defensive play.  First time, and well deserved.

And now we wait for Saturday...

I'm not a fan of either the Mets or Cards.  A small part of me was rooting for the Mets because 1) my mom wanted them to win, and 2) they'd make a better opponent for the Tigers.  I'm glad Pujols has another shot in the Fall Classic and La Russa probably makes it to the HOF with this pennant, his...  I dunno, fifth?  I think I was rooting against the Cards a bit because I wanted to see a bit of the La Russa lustre diminished by losing another postseason series.  For some reason, La Russa has become Expert Manager for all time, a title I don't think is merited.  He popularized the now-standard system of getting every goddamn platoon edge in the late innings by making a bazillion pitching changes, slowing down the pace of games, and turning off a LOT of fans in the process.  His judgment in choosing ballplayers is also kinda odd to me.  He's lucky to have Pujols, the best player on the planet.  Otherwise his season would be finished by players like David Eckstein and So Taguchi.

It could easily have been New York in five games; sometimes, shit just happens.  Pedro and El Duque go down, Mets roster is assembled without the foresight of a couple rainouts and the rotation is a mess.  I think Mets fans will be tremendously disappointed for the next few days and will probably be in no shape to accept the notion that they may have exceeded themselves by taking the NLCS the full route.  Once upon a time, the Mets had STARS pitching for them in these do-or-die affairs: Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Darling, Gooden, Sid Fernandez (Kaiser High grad!).  Will casual baseball fans be expected to remember the name of Oliver Perez?  I think not.

Yet, this is what Willie Randolph had to deal with.  Absolutely the worst time of the year to play 52-Pick Up with your pitching staff but you know, shit happens.  It's a short week and I think we've learned by now that the postseason is a helluva contest between the league's best teams and sometimes the big boys aren't the ones left standing.  Anyone remember Joe Torre's team?  Sheesh, that LDS series seemed ages ago.

No disgrace for the Mets; this series or the regular season.  They got Wright and Reyes.  Pedro is on the mend, and John Maine could become a solid arm for the next few years (provided he improves his control).

Blah, blah...  OK that's enough postwhoring for the evening...

Carlos probably can't believe it, either.  He'll be replaying it in his mind a LOT this winter.  And in the spring.  And then opening day.

Because nobody cares about buying a baseball cap that reads: New York Mets 2006 NLDS Winner.

Ted Williams said hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.  Eye-hand coordination, split-second impulses, guesswork...  My mom freaked when Beltran ended the game with the bat on his shoulder: "At least SWING if you're going to make (an) out!"

Wainwright just uncorked a big, bad breaking pitch that Beltran just did NOT expect.  Three pitches, three strikes.  Good pitching beats good hitting.

It's all good Sab XD

Pedro is done man, he's on the decline. It's just the baseball Rikas fucking with the Mets this year. Cliff Floyd coming in as a last gasp. CARLOS DELGADO! c'mon man... but Jose Reyes really had that sincere enthusiasm when playing. on the bench, etc.

I kinda side with the Cards only cuz I grew up with A's...so I gotta soft spot for LaRussa. And he made a pretty cool game lol - but yeah. Just good postseason baseball. Youth vs Veterans. LMAO how the Cards fumbled their way in.

baseball Rikas?:D  that's pretty funny.

I watched that catch that Chavez made and my mouth just dropped. Then, to turn it to a double play was pretty cool. Here's hoping that the Series goes to seven games.

Hopefully, the Cardinals will win at least a game. They got swept by the Red Sox last time they were in the Series. I'm kinda pulling for the Tigers to win, after all they've been through for the past few years. It would make a great storybook ending.

I know there are people who INSIST Pujols should be walked EVERY time there's a base open but...  NO hitter is worth putting on base every time: not Barry Bonds, not Babe Ruth, not So Taguchi.  Your job as a pitcher is to GET outs, not give them up.

Pitch to Pujols, you pussies!

Agreed.  Starting Neifi Perez and batting him second in the postseason is proof of this.

It could also be stupidity but that wouldn't be polite to say, would it?

At the beginning of this game it looked like the Tigers were in control, but Reyes and Molina realized the changeup was getting picked off, adjusted, and took control of the Tigers Batters, and then Rolen and Pujols came through with key runs. Solid batting all around by StL with 2 key errors by the Tigers has let them blow this game open to a 7-1 lead in the top of the 8th.  It seems like that week off has let the Tigers' hot streak grow cold, but it could still prove to be an advantage if this series goes the distance.  I'm thinking the Cards will win it in 5, but I'm a little biased XD

No one warming up in the St. Louis pen?!

Hmm....  You never can tell in this game.  La Russa will probably get someone up in a bit.

Indeed, for a rookie to retire 17 straight batters in his first World Series game and go for 8 innings and a 3rd with 2 runs off 4 hits is awesome.  Beautiful pitching.

FORTY degrees at game time!  Yikes!  Was that John Mellencamp and friends I saw/heard?

TOP 1ST: Ground ball out, called strike three to the guy with the red goatee.

Pujols walks on four pitches...

Rolen checks swing, don't get the appeal.  Rogers is fooling the batters...  ground ball smothered by Inge.  Diving for balls looks great on highlight videos but sure cuts down on your range.

Encarnacion looks overmatched...  fooled by pitches, barely fouled the third pitch...  Comebacker to Rogers and that's the first inning.

0-0, middle 1st.
