BOTTOM 1ST: Jeff Weaver, former Tiger.  Becoming the new hot ticket in the postseason.  I am still skeptical; however, a good performance here will bring him big bucks.

Edmonds twists and turns, catches the ball.  I swear, doesn't he look like he's making that stuff up on the fly, those jerky moves?

Craig Monroe BOMBS one to left on the first pitch!  Outfielders didn't even budge.  What a shot!  Can Weaver keep his composure?

Polonco grounds out but Ordonez bloops one over Eckstein's head.  Still two down.

Guillen spinned back by one up and tight.  Later knocks one to left center that bounces off the top of the fence.  Ordonez comes all the way around to score.  2-0, Detroit.

If I'm a Tiger fan in that park, I ride on Weaver until he cracks like a potato chip.

I-Rod grounds to Rolen who tags Guillen in the basepath.  Good start for the Tigers.

2-0, end 1st.

TOP 2ND: Rogers is dealing!  Edmonds strikes out swinging and Preston Wilson is wiffing.

Wind chill is in the 30s...   Wilson hits the ball right back to Rogers -- he doesn't strike out!!

NLCS hero Molina hits the first pitch to left center but Monroe runs it down.  Rogers chats with the home plate umpire as Fox goes to commercial.  I wonder if Rogers will get flustered by any of this?  I doubt it.

Pine tar on the hand...  Fox won't let this one slide too easily.

2-0, middle 2nd.

BOTTOM 2ND: With one out, Inge singles to left.

The ninth hitter in the lineup, Santiago, flares one inbetween three fielders for another single.  First and second.

Hard hit ball to second by Granderson and St. Louis turns the DP.  Close play at first, though.  Weaver survives another scare.

2-0, end 2nd.

TOP 3RD: Wow, 3rd strikeout by Rogers.

That super slow-motion camera by Fox is pretty cool...  Eckstein pops up and now two quick outs.

Damn..  I went to the fridge for a drink and Fox already went to commercial after the third out.  Rogers is zooming right along!

2-0, middle 3rd.

BOTTOM 3RD: Monroe caught looking!

Polonco looks like he's in the Winter Olympics!  Wow, another strikeout for Weaver.

Ordonez singles to right...  La Russa is wearing the sunglasses at night again.  Boy...

Oh man, a rainy mist is falling.  Guillen hits a ball just foul down the right side...

What's with the hankies and when did EVERY MLB park issue them?  3-2 pitch low and it's first and second with two outs.

Ivan first pitch swinging...  he must be super anxious to drive in one of those runners.  Wow Weaver is out of the zone now...  A foul on 3-1 and then a broken bat grounder to Pujols.

2-0, end 3rd.

TOP 4TH: Pujols leading off...  Another tapper to Rogers...  Pujols is slow on to first.

Rolen flies to center...  Encarnacion grounds to short.  Jeez, Rogers is working on a consecutive scoreless inning streak in the postseason that could hit 25 or so by game's end!

Not much to say in this game: ground outs, swings and misses.  At least Weaver has settled down somewhat.

2-0, middle 4th.

BOTTOM 4TH: Casey HBP.  Weaver claims he didn't try to avoid the pitch and he's got a beef there but it's umpire's judgment.  Molina was caught by the riccochet..

Gads, another dugout chat by Fox...  Inge lines one past short and they got two on with NONE out!

They're playing "Rock the Casbah" in Comerica...  Pujols can't make the play on the bunt.  Pujols and Weaver mixed up there?

They're loaded up on the error by Pujols...  Granderson swinging for the fences?  Foul tip strikeout!

Now the badass home run hitter, Monroe.  Another swinging strike, Weaver might make it out of the inning!

Pop up, infield fly to Eck!  Two down!

Polanco grounds to short, three outs!  And THREE left on.  Tigers blow a huge opportunity here!  Of course Rogers is pitching like Sandy Friggin' Koufax!

2-0, end 4th.

TOP 5TH: Edmonds up but I don't feel like the Cards can do anything against Rogers, who has posted 19 consecutive scoreless inning, according to the Fox graphic.

Edmonds walks on 3-2.  Here comes Wilson, who has struck out every time I've seen him.  Fly ball to right center.  Great range by Granderson who probably had it all the way.  Lot of pasture out there.

Molina flies to right, two down.

Line drive right to Rogers by Miles.  Three outs.  I gotta lookup the pitch count for Rogers -- I'll be surprised if it's more than 60 at this point.

2-0, middle 5th.

BOTTOM 5TH: Eckstein spears a 3-2 shot to his right and throws out Ordonez.  It always looks like Eckstein's shoulder is going to pop out of its socket with every throw to first.

Guillen lines one down the right and hustles all the way to third...  now I-Rod is up again with runners in scoring position.

0-2 to Rodriguez...  And a sidearm breaking pitch on 2-2 and Rodriguez swings and misses!  Two out!

Casey lines one to right field and FINALLY Detroit gets one of those runners in.  Hanging breaking pitch.  Three-nothing, Detroit.

Weaver punches out Ingle on four pitches but Detroit chips away just a little more.

3-0, end 5th.

TOP 6TH: Wow, I missed that first out by Eckstein.

Spezio takes it to a full count, 67 pitches by Rogers so far...

Spezio takes ball four low and Rogers spins around in frustration.  Pujols is up.

2-0, inside and outside.  Rogers doesn't seem to want to throw strikes to the reigning MVP.

Line drive to Monroe on the warning track.  See?!!!  Pitch to these guys and you'll get 'em out once in a while!

75 pitches...  1-2 count on Rolen.  Rogers is good for another inning, at least.

Foul tip strike three.  Another scoreless frame by Rogers, who has captured something very special this season.

3-0, middle 6th.

BOTTOM 6TH: Tyler Johnson relieves Weaver for the Cards.  Santiago down on strikes.

Granderson hits a 1-2 broken bat grounder to Pujols unassisted...  And here comes the merry-go-round of pitching changes!  This is Tony La Russa's specialty and has done as MORE to kill the enjoyment of baseball than anything steroid-related.  Seriously.

Josh Kinney is in to pitch to the right-handed-hitting Monroe...  He swings on 3-0!  Ball four on 3-1.

Kinney hits Polonco in the back on 1-0.  Cards slowly losing control of the game...

Now Ordonez.  First pitch swinging...  fly ball to left, caught by Wilson.  Close call for the Cards there.  Detroit losing opportunities to score!

3-0, end 6th.

TOP 7TH: Rogers back for another inning.  Encarnacion still fishing for balls low and outside, just like Alfonso Soriano on a bad day.

Another foul tip caught and another strikeout.

Edmonds quickly 0-2...  Rogers throws a ball outside and he's jumping up and down, wanting the punchout.

Detroit better have someone up in the pen now.

Fly ball to center on 2-2 and Rogers is still pumped!

Wilson grounds to short.  93 pitches so far.  What a performance for Rogers in October!

3-0, middle 7th.

BOTTOM 7TH: Flores in for St. Louis.  Guillen first pitch swinging, up the middle for a base hit.

Should Pudge bunt?  Wow, grounder to third and we go around the horn.  Two down.  Rodriguez now in an 0-19 slump.

Full count to Sean Casey.  Fly ball to Edmonds in center.  Quiet inning for the Tigers.

Will Rogers come out for another inning of work?

3-0, end 7th.

TOP 8TH: Rogers on the mound for the 8th.

Molina lines a single way over the head of Polonco to lead things off.  Zumaya, the 100mph+ dude, is up in the Detroit pen for the third time.

Miles grounds into a force, 6-4.  One out.

Eckstein ground ball, 4...  6...   3!  Eight scoreless innings for the Gambler!  What a performance!

3-0, middle 8th.

BOTTOM 8TH: Brad Thompson in for St. Louis.  Looks like Mister Rogers is out of the game, 23 scoreless innings in this postseason.

Inge strikes out looking, Santiago grounds out to second...  and another fucking pitching change for the Cards.  Does La Russa want to get as many people in a World Series boxscore as possible?

Wainwright in with two outs...  strikes out Granderson on five pitches.

On to the ninth, with the meat of the order coming up for Detroit's closer.

3-0, end 8th.

TOP 9TH: Jones in to close out the game.  Worst closer ever?

Spiezio lines out to right.  One down.

Jones throwing strikes to Pujols.  What's there to lose with the bases empty?  Grounder to Inge at third, bobbled slightly, thrown out at first.  Two down.

Rolen in.  He's got the other hit for St. Louis, ages ago.  Here come the hankies!

Line drive to right, base hit!

Wow...  Encarnacion grounds one to Jones who boots it.  First and third, two outs.

Edmonds is the tying run...  flare to left, Rolen scores.  Edmonds hustles to 2nd with a double.  The tying run at second!

Encarnacion HBP.  Loaded up for Molina, the hero of the NLCS!

Ahh, dribbler to short, force out at 2nd.  I swear, Jones is the worst closer in history.

FINAL: 3-1, Detroit.  Series tied one game apiece.

So long screwy, see you in St. Looey!

I think Kenny Rogers and "Tar-gate" is a legit topic.

Umpires, managers...  there seems to be a coverup conspiracy waiting to bust out at any moment.

Why is La Russa so hush-hush on the topic?

Why the FUCK did Kenny Rogers have that same grease mark against the Yanks in the ALCS?  Same dirt in Detroit?

There are several ways to make pine tar work to your advantage if you are pitching in sub-freezing temperatures.

Rogers had better pray that Detroit sweeps the next three games in St. Louis so he doesn't have to pitch again this year.
