Amen.

Those voters need to open their eyes.

Did you hear what Pujols said about how he should've been the MVP, and that the MVP should take his team to the playoffs? Howard's team was better than his at the end of the regular season so he shouldn't talk.

Pujols needs to keep his mouth shut. Every time he opens it lately, he seems to make a fool out of himself..

My man Big Papi didn't help himself this year on the MVP topic either. But, I forgive him, because he has some of the looniest baseball quotes of recent memory.. My favorite two:

"Don't worry. We're going to drink their beer and kick their ass!"  - Papi, before a Sox/Orioles game

"Don't look at my nipples!!" - Papi, bellowing at reporters after a game, lol

You know what's funny 'bout this?

It's been a while since the MVP came from the team that won the World Series.  And so you get guys like A-Rod saying in late November how, yeah, they'd trade the trophy for a World Series ring.

And now you got a player whose team won the holy grail get into a debate on the merits of MVP voting, like we didn't hear enough of it last week (present company included), like he's going to bring anything fresh to the arena of higher learning.

Don Mattingly had a cow when Roger Clemens beat him out in the MVP vote in '86 and didn't sound very intelligent in the process.  I guess when these guys get upset, sound reasoning kinda goes out the window.  Not to mention that there are no good losers these days (I know, I know: finishing second in a ballot doesn't make him a "loser" but you know what I mean).

Pujols might not know it but most baseball analysts would peg him as the NL MVP for '06 anyway.  He should just get fat and happy this winter, and make sure they measure his ring finger correctly.

Mark McGwire: candidate for the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

I would vote for him.

That is all.

McGwire:

I'd vote no. Did he cheat? Probably. If so, he doesn't deserve the spot. The andro thing never bugged me. The refusing to answer questions in congress was ridiculous. Pete Rose may have bet on baseball using insider information, maybe he didn't.. But either way, at least Pete came by his stats legitimately.. I know the McGwire thing will be a story all year but I think that unless Pete gets in, it's almost not worth discussing. But then again, the analysts need things to argue about, right? ^_^

It seems to me that he did do steroids. He looks so much different now from his playing days. Nonetheless you have to remember that the league didn't ban certain substances back in those days. If I vote for McGwire I'd vote for Sosa too.

Sosa still wants to play, apparently. Wonder if there'll be any takers?

I think Sosa is finished, too.  Kaput.  His last year in Baltimore was pathetic, impatient at the plate and desperate to just jack every pitch into the seats.

Hall of Famer?

Bonds means more to the Giants than any other team in MLB.

That said, I AM surprised that San Francisco put up so much money for a one-year contract.  They might have been wiser to offer $9 million or less, with mass incentives.

Good luck to Barry in his quest for #756...

It would've been cool if Bonds and Pujols were to play together. I think Bonds is gonna play pretty well this year.

How bout Petite going to NY? I bet Clemens is gonna follow.

Pettitte's one-year deal with the Yanks might be a good gamble by Cashman.  The Bombers need all the pitching they can get (I wonder how much that southpaw from Japan will get?), Pettitte was still effective in Houston (a hitters ballpark) and is still popular in Gotham (not sure you can make the same popularity claim for, say, Rocket Clemens).

$16 million for one year sounds pricey but that's the current market price.  Lookit what Gil Meche got from the Royals: $55 million for five years.  Gil WHO?!  WTF, indeed!

Nice to see Bonds back, 2007 will be interesting indeed.

Matsuzaka talks fizzle?? Red Sox off season is looking bad with Yankees getting Pettitte.

$51m bidding rights + $54m contract for 6 years, that's what $17m a year for an unproven rookie.  Crazy shit I tell you.
