Congratulations to the White Sox and the fans of Chicago:

I doubt this will "unite" Sox and Cubs fans but it is a helluva moment for Chicago baseball.

The White Sox just dominated in the postseason, particularly their pitching and defense. Yeah, they had some lucky calls but luck usually evens outs; it's never THE reason why championships are decided.

True...the lucky calls come from the hustle. DAMN look at Uribe for the final 2 outs!!! The Baseball Gods were truly watching. Props to Frank Thomas too. One of my favorites growing up. Truly Hurt Big but he's got a ring now.

So it was the lowest rated ever, this was some quality strategy by both sides and Ozzie Guillen got it done!!

It's the OFF-season! And I am bummed. I was looking forward to two more games this weekend...

Random ramblings:

These start times for World Series games have GOT to change. Don't kids have to go to bed at 8PM? I mean, the friggin' games begin AFTER 8:30! Don't they (MLB and Fox) want to breed a new generation of fans? (That was a rhetorical question; we know that they could give a fuck about the kids and would rather sell more Budweiser and "Prison Break.")

I'm happy for The Big Hurt getting a ring, even though he had zero postseason plate appearences. Monster player in the early 90s. First-ballot HOF.

Leo Mazzone in Baltimore. If he cuts the Orioles' staff ERA considerably then we'll have to consider a HOF nomination. Seriously.

Brian Cashman resigns as GM with the Yankees. Not a big surprise, given the happenings of the last couple weeks.

There are media stories that report LA Dodger GM Paul DePodesta was canned by owner Frank McCourt, which if true shows that McCourt may be the new Steinbrenner. And a small blow to the "Moneyball" movement. (Update: if Bobby Valentine signs on as field manager of the Dodgers, then McCourt and the entire city of Los Angeles will TRULY go to hell.)

Who the hell is going to sign Johnny Damon? Not the Yankees. I suspect Boston might get a discount and resign him. And why do people think Konerko will sign with Anaheim? They have money and a lack of power at that position but the same applies with the Red Sox.

Well, time for the BBWAA awards! I sure hope A-Rod gets the AL MVP and the Rocket steals the NL Cy Young. I think Santana should repeat as AL Cy Young but voters have an unhealthy (read: asinine) fixation on wins and RBI.

The Yanks are completely revamping their coaching staff. I'm surprised Cahsman didn't resign either.

It says something about the state of baseball coverage/fandom/mass coverage that the dealings of front office personnel are fodder for discussion, even on a li'l bbs like this one. I didn't even think to mention it, mostly because of laziness. But also because I never truly realized how many baseball fans really followed this stuff.

I mean, managers get hired/fired all the time. Free agents come and go. But how many MLB fans could name the GM of their favorite team, ten years ago? The field manager was always assumed the leadership of the team; we have seen a PR shift in the last few years.

As for the specifics of Theo Epstein leaving the Red Sox... he's still mum about The Truth, no doubt about it. Nobody walks away from an offer of $1 million-plus per annum without some compelling reasons. There's politics and personal drama in every workplace and I'm sure the fact that this affair made the papers convinced Epstein that he had a choice between the looney bin and his sanity. I'm not sure he made the correct decision but there are a LOT of fans in Red Sox Nation who are PISSED at CEO Larry Lucchino and club owner John Henry for not placating the architect of Boston's first World Series championship club in a gazillion years.

Epstein WILL return to the big leagues, I am certain.

I follow the postseason awards and... well, the baseball "writers" who vote for these things make my toenails ache. They have a stone age intellect that doesn't reflect the great strides in performance analysis that have been in force for the last two decades -- yes, DECADES.

They'll vote for Carpenter cause he has the most wins and give the MVP blindly to whoever has the most RBI. It makes me want to upchuck my Cracker Jack.

Ahh, I'm just bracing myself for disappointment.

Derek Lee getting votes surprised me...since he was on a losing team.

The steroid ruling was brutal...but shit. after 50 games, they still get 2 more strikes? And such a shame to see Raffy and Sammy getting cut like that. They ain't the same and doubt they'd be back in the majors next year.
