Chapter 20 part 2
Mariko woke up to the feeling of something cold on her face. She opend her eyes and saw snow gently falling on her warm face. Mariko sat up but feel back down from the sudden shock of pain. It was then she remembered what had happened. There was an avelanche and everyone got caught up on it. Mariko had to get up and go look for them. After a couple minutes, Mariko attempted to get up again. She was succesfull this time but she was still in a great amount of pain. Mariko looked around for any kind of sign of survivors but so far she found nothiong.
"Hey you guys!" Mariko shouted.
There was no answer. Just cold silence.
"Yuko, Haruna, Acchan, Takamina!"
Again no answer.
"Man where are they?"
The sun was just starting to come up so Mariko decided to start looking. But her feet were buried two feet in the ground which made it hard to move. Yet somehow she managed to walk through. Walking through the snow was really slow and time wasting. She tried running at one point but it was a waste of energy. Mariko looked around some more but still saw nothing. Then when while she was walking, she felt something grab her boot. She lifted her foot and saw a hand holding onto it. Mariko saw this and immediately started digging up what was under the snow. The person who was holding onto Mariko was Takamina.
"Takamina!" Mariko said.
"Mari..ko"
"Hang on Takamina let's get you out of here."
Mariko pulled Takamina out from under the snow with all her strength. Takamina seemed really heavy for some reason. When she pulled Takamina, another body was dragged out. It was Acchan and she was knocked out.
"Acchan!"
Mariko ran over to Acchan and checked on her condition. She seemed alright. A lot better than Takamina. Takamina must have protected Acchan from most of the crash.
"Acchan." Takamina crawled over to Acchand and held her hand.
"She's really cold." Takamina said.
"She's alive though. Can you walk?" Mariko asked.
"Yeah I think so."
Takamina tried to stand up but fell back down.
"I think I broke my ankle." she said trying to hold her cries.
"Alright well I can't carry both you and Acchan. How about this. You and Acchan stay here while I go look for the others. If I'm not back by dark, try shouting for help or something." Mariko said.
"Are you really going to leave us like this?"
"I have no choice."
Mariko stood up and started to walk.
"Follow my tracks if you want to find me."
Mariko walked further down the mountain and didn't see anything. She tried calling out everyone's names but still didn't get an answer. Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw something move. Mariko looked over and saw something move behind a clump of snow. Mariko walked over and found Mayuyu and Yukirin.
"Mayuyu!"
"Mariko?"
Yukirin sat up and was so gald to see Mariko's face.
"Are you alright? Can you walk?" Mariko asked.
"Yeah."
"Then help me carry Mayuyu. Takamina and Acchan are up the mountain. Takamina has a broken ankle so I could really use some help."
"Ok."
Together, Yukirin and Mariko carried Mayuyu back up to where Takamina and Acchan were.
"Treat Takamina's injury and make sure Mayuyu and Acchan are alright." Mariko said.
"On it."
Yukirin reached into her coat and pulled out a small first aid kit. How lucky was Takamina. Mariko went back down the mountain past the area she found Mayuyu and Yukirin. As Mariko was walking, she saw another set of tracks leading off a different direction. She followed them to a log and saw two heads leaned against it. After looking closely, she realized it was Yuko and Haurna.
"Haruna, Yuko!"
Yuko opened her eyes and saw Mariko.
"Mariko?"
"Hey are you alright? Can you stand?" Mariko asked.
"Yeah."
Yuko stood up and stretched a little.
"How's Nyannyan?" Yuko asked.
"I think she's ok. I feel a pulse and she's breathing."
"That's good."
"The others are up ahead. Help me carry Haruna up to them."
Mariko and Yuko carried Haruna back up the mountain to where the others were. Acchan was up and now tending to Takamina but Mayuyu was still out.
"Hey you found Yuko and Haruna!" Takamina said.
"Yeah. Yukirin check on Haruna." Mariko said as she gently set Haruna down.
"Got it. Oh by the way, we found Sae and Sayaka." Yukirin said.
"Where are they?"
"They went further up the mountain to get help."
"Alright which means only Rean and Jurina are the only one's missing."
"Mariko!"
Everyone looked over and saw Jurina carrying Rena who was badly bleeding.
"Jurina!" Mariko ran over and grabbed Rena before Jurina collapsed.
"What happend?"
"When we got carried by the avelanche, we were taken into a woodsy area. We rolled down and hill and when we stopped, Rena landed right on a stick. It's in her side!" Jurina said crying.
"Juri...na?"
Rena had opened her eyes for just a couple minutes.
"Rena!"
"Jurina are you ok?" Rena weakly asked.
"I'm fine. But you got hurt!"
"It's ok. Jurina don't cry."
"You protected me from getting hurt!"
"Calm down Jurina we'll figure this out." Mariko said.
"Yukirin you got gauzes?"
"Yeah."
"Alright then get them ready. Takamina and Acchan I need you to hold Jurina back."
"What are you going to do?" Jurina asked.
"The longer we leave that stick in the higher chance she'll have of getting an infection. We have to get it out." Mariko said.
"We're gonna have to pull it out." Yukirin said.
"No you're not doing that to my sister!"
Jurina tried to stop them but Acchan and Takamina were holding back.
"Alright Yukirin get those gauzes ready." Mariko said.
"Ok here we go. Rena, Rena listen you're going to feel a lot of pain in a couple minutes to just hang in there ok?"
"Ok." Rena said.
Mariko turned Rena on her side and saw the stick where it had hit. It was in a slanted downwards angle. Mariko knew she had to pull it out at just the right angle to avoid as much tearing as possible.
"Rena get ready."
Mariko grabbed the stick and slowly began to pull it out. Rena screamed in pain and tried squirming. But Mariko was holding her down. If she moved, the stick could do more damage. Mariko continued to pull making blood drip onto the pure white snow.
"We're almost there Rena just a little bit more." Mariko said.
With one last tug, the stick came out. Rena had reached her limit and now passed out.
"Yukirin give me the gauzes."
Mariko flipped Rena's jacket and shirt revealing a dark red hole where the stick used to be. Blood was pouring out of it. Mariko folded the gauzes and began to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. Feeling the sudden pressure on her wound made Rena wake back up again and was now screaming.
"Stop it you're hurting her!" Jurina screamed.
"Do you want your sister to live or die?!" Mariko screamed back.
Jurina stopped fighting and just watched Mariko treat her injured sister.
"Yukirin give me some more gauzes."
Mariko threw the now blood soaked gauze to the side and replaced it with a new one. It landed right near Acchan causing her to freak.
"Ok most of the bleeding has stopped. Yukirin held me lift her up."
Yukirin and Mariko sat Rena up and wrapped the gauzes around her waist. Then she took off her coat and wrapped it around Rena. Having lost so much blood, Rena is really weak to the cold weather.
"Ok that should stabilizer for now. But we need to get back up to the resort and get proper tools. That stick looked like it had penetrated atleast two inches in. We need to make sure it didn't hit any vital organs." Mariko explained.
"Let me carry her." Jurina said standing up and walking over.
"Be very careful."
"I know that." Jurina gave her a nasty look.
"Alright then Yukirin you carry Mayuyu and I'll carry Haruna. Acchan you think you can carry Takamina?"
"Yeah!" Acchan said as she picked Takamina up.
"Alright then let's move."
Together, they all made their way to the mountain. By then it was around noon and Mariko was starting to get what snow boarders call white out. It's when the reflection of the snow from the suns light starts to cause temporary blindess. Mariko's vision started getting blurry and her legs wobbly from the extra weight on her back. Her entire body felt numb from the cold. They were about half way up when something fast was coming right at them. As they got closer, they realized it was Sayaka and Sae on snow moblies.
"Thank god you came!" Mariko said.
"What's the situation?" Sayaka asked.
"Rena's badly hurt and needs to get in an ER stat."
"Alright load her onto mine. I'll take her back up to the resort."
"I'm coming with!" Jurina said.
"That's fine. These snow moblies can fit four people."
"Alright then Sayaka you take Rena, Jurina and Mayuyu. Sae you take Takamina, Acchan, and Haruna. Once you get them up to the resort, come back down and pick up Yuko, Yukirin and I."
"I'll see you soon then."
Sayaka and Sae loaded everyone into the snow moblies and then set off. Meanwhile Yukirin, Yuko and Mariko started walking again. They followed the snow mobile tracks to the resort. It had been an hour later and finally Sayaka and Sae came back down. But this time they weren't on the same snow mobiles as before. These snow mobiles looked like they could only hold two people.
"Take Yuko and Yukirin. I can walk." Mariko insisted.
"Are you sure?" Yukirin asked.
"Yeah just go."
The four took off leaving Mariko all alone to walk. Mariko had continued to walk. It was taking them longer to come back down and get Mariko. Mariko's body began to feel extrememly weak and was on the verge of collapsing. But thenl finally Sayaka came back down to get her. The only problem was, Mariko couldn't see Sayaka. She could only see a blur.
"Get on." she said.
"Where are you? I can't see." Marko said.
"Not good. We need to get you back to the resort."
Sayaka helped Mariko onto the snow mobile and they rode up to the resort where the others were.
"How is Rena?" Mariko asked still not being able to see.
"She's going to be fine." Yukirin said.
"Because you treated most of the wound, we were easily able to finish it. Jurina is with her in the other room." Yukirin said.
"That's good to here." Mariko said not even facing Yukirin.
"Uh Mariko I'm over here. Are you ok?"
"She has temporary blindness." Sayaka said.
"Oh that's not good."
"I don't know how long it's going to last but it should be gone by the time we get back to the facility."
"That's good. How is Haruna and Mayuyu?" Mariko asked.
"They're both sleeping. Haruna had a concussion which we treated and Mayuyu was just knocked out. Nothing serious." Yukirin said.
"How's Takamina's ankle?"
"We got her in a wrap. She won't be able to walk for a while but I think she'll be alright with her wife constantly babying her."
"Of course. Well that's good to hear everything is alright." Mariko said.
"I'm amazed we're all alive." Yuko said.
"I guess someone wished for us to all live." Acchan said.
"Yeah maybe..."
Mariko stood there smiling to herself feeling relieved because everyone was alright.
"I guess wishes really do come true." she thought.
