Candlelit Smile

Story | Vague Description

Takahashi Minami is a passionate photographer whose life gets flipped upside down the moment she finds out her precious girlfriend Kojima Haruna and best friend Shinoda Mariko have been seeing each other behind her back. Then one day she meets an aspiring actress Maeda Atsuko whom fate has it written down startlingly to fall for her failing charms… and that was all the spark it took to light up a whole new world completely sticky with tangled relationships.

Prologue | Darkness

After setting her umbrella down against a corner, Atsuko walked into the apartment. “Eh?” She quickly took note of her lover’s shoes and those of another unfamiliar pair. ‘Ahh, she’s home already?’ At the thought, a satisfied smile graced her beautiful features.

Following the next second, and without a warning Atsuko’s body immediately stiffened up at the unexpected sound of a woman’s inducing cry. She furrowed her eyebrows, and gripped onto the handle of her plastic bag filled with candles. She froze in place and blinked once, twice, and then finally thrice in confusion.

‘…Did I just hear that correctly?’ She swallowed down the uncomfortable feeling slowly knotting itself into her throat and found her gaze dropping back down to the floor where the unknown pair of shoes currently resided.

The joyous smile she had previously held was now quickly replaced by parted lips, desperate to take in air. Atsuko placed a hand over the sudden pounding against her constricted chest and grabbed at her blouse. Nervous from the fear, yet curious about the truth she slowly picked up her feet and trudged cautiously towards the bedroom.

A heavy presence consumed over Atsuko’s being as she came nearer to the source of the suspicious commotion. Upon reaching the wooden door she extended out a trembling hand to twist over the glossy doorknob and the door instantly creaked open. Ragged breathing and muffled moans from the dreaded side filled her ears.

‘Dokun, dokun, dokun…’ Her heart began to thump painfully from within.

Summoning the last of her courage, Atsuko held onto her breath and peered into the opening. Her heart sank the second her vision was set upon the sight of her beloved pinned against the wall in a heated embrace with another woman. Completely stunned with shock, she slapped both of her hands over her mouth and immediately regretted the hasted decision. The plastic bag that she had held onto so tightly against the palm of her hand hit the ground with a loud thud and its contents began to roll audibly over the floor.

The two unsuspecting people inside the room immediately snapped their eyes open. Minami who was currently pinned under was now instantly faced with the horrible predicament in front of her. As the door fully disclosed itself and Atsuko’s tear-stricken presence had been exposed, she did the only thing she could do in an impulsive panic.

“Atsuko!” The shorter girl called out as she watched the witness take a couple shaken steps back.

Minami quickly broke out of the grasp she was in, but before she could say anymore Atsuko had already dashed out of sight. ‘No, no, no, no this can’t be happening!’ She repeated hysterically in her head. Minami lashed out instinctively to follow the girl who had just run out, but was abruptly halted when a pair of arms locked themselves tightly around her torso.

“Please...Don’t go.” The taller girl begged.

With the last of those words, Minami heard a slam to the front door close shut…

Atsuko ran without once looking back until her legs were tired, and her lungs flamed achingly against the hectic pounding of her heart. With every freezing drop of rain, the cold liquid sunk itself into her clothes. Each dampened spot one after another like a starving beast seemingly engulfing her entire form in merely seconds. The tears escaped from the girl’s bitter eyes and slid hidden amongst the silver threads of rain.

Falling to her knees into a dirty puddle, Atsuko found herself doing what she’s always hated the most. Through gritted teeth the scene she had just witnessed continued to pry itself into her mind cruelly. Feeling weak and defeated, she clutched tightly onto the fabric above her aching heart and let out her anguished cries.

It was only then when she reopened her eyes that something seemed off. Atsuko lifted up a loose fist and rubbed at her eyes as the rain pelted down against her skin. Blinking over and over again waiting for her vision to correct itself, she knew something was seriously wrong. Where there was bright light it was too bright and where it was dark, everything seemed overshadowed.

In a panic she looked up to the sky that continued to soak her, but her vision had only become more and more clouded. ‘Oh no… What’s happening to me?’ Atsuko quickly scanned the area to check her location, but her ability to properly make out her surroundings had already begun to collapse.

A sharp sensation immediately took root behind Atsuko’s eyes, stealing her vision and replacing them with flashes of pitch black torment until…

…There was nothing she could see at all.

At the frightening experience, Atsuko lurched forward from where she was rooted and mauled around until her back came up against a solid wall. With nerves that have begun to soar, she quickly slid down and pulled in her knees.

Flooded with confusion as to what was happening to her, followed by the overwhelming feelings of what did happen to her, Atsuko bit onto her bottom lip and choked on a sob.

‘Somebody…help me.’ Atsuko cradled herself.

“…Minami”

A/N: Okay, awesome. Sorry everyone if this was seriously confusing to try and read or understand. I know my grammar and all is completely whack so I totally get it. To clarify though this segment is merely the prologue, this will have nothing to do with the first chapter until later in the future updates.  This is also my first akb48 fanfic so any support would be loved <3 … Chapter one will be up tomorrow ‘: )

Oh, and there are a lot of pairings and other major character in this fic as well... Like seriously lol.

Candlelit Smile

Chapter | One | Guilty Flutter

The magnificent sky was covered in a beautiful shade of purple as bright golden rays threatened to spill in contrast over the horizon. As Takahashi Minami viewed the exotic background through the sharp lens of her camera, her peaceful serenity was suddenly interrupted by the ‘clack’ of a door opening and closing. She looked up from the expensive object in her hands and turned to be presented with sight of a young woman.

The two of them stood silently on opposite corners of a capaciously-sized roof. One was simply staring out into the canvas of a sky unaware of the other’s presence whilst the other seemingly curious about the new presence, but unaware that whatever she may be planning to do could possibly lead to unfavorable cross purposes.

‘It must be one of the models scheduled for today’s shoot.’ Minami thought as she decided to use the zoom function of her camera to get a better observation.

Checking out the exquisite frame Minami slightly tweaked on the scale of the zoom function until its clarity was brought upon the woman in question. With the camera focused, she peeked in through the view point and was astonished by the person’s immediate beauty. Studying over the person’s features Minima couldn’t help, but to admire on with her mouth slightly agape.

Although completely complimentary as one with the beautiful sky as her background, it was as though the girl herself was a type of elegant artistry. Minami gazed over the other person’s features from the slightest twinkle in the seriousness of her eyes, to the soft flesh that was lips.

…she gulped unconsciously.

‘Click, click, click…’ Minami began taking mindless snap shots in a futile attempt to capture the rare moment before her.

The unsuspecting girl’s flawless skin glowed radiantly amongst the gentle touches of light and in that moment when the sound of crisp winds had sounded, it almost felt as though the morning breeze had only existed to put a sigh through her silk-like hair.

Minami wasn’t sure how to describe what came over her, but she had figured that perhaps the other girl had a charm about her that must’ve drew others in. She smiled at the thought, until she noticed something about the girl…

Minami blinked slowly as she witnesses a lone tear slid its way down the girl’s cheek. Such a sweet, yet sorrowful expression couldn’t have been described with words as her bottom lip then began with a quiver and soon enough her tears that have been threatening to fall quickly made their escape. At this, Minami lowered down her camera.

‘She’s crying… Should I approach her?’ Shaken with a foreign form of nervousness, Minami inwardly asked herself the question.

Nodding to herself about the chosen decision, she wrapped the strap of her camera over her neck and began walking towards the girl.

“Umm…Are you alright?” Minami asked awkwardly.

The other girl jumped a little at the sight of another person before her, and quickly wiped at the tears that have already been made evident on her cheeks. Taking a couple steps back the girl quickly glanced at Minami’s appearance and her eyes instantly widened at the sight of a camera.

“Who are you? …Are you the paparazzi?!” She asked accusingly.

“Wha-?!” Minami replied in confusion, her face in a dumfounded expression.

“Don’t come any closer o-or I’ll sue you.” The taller girl motioned for Minami to stop in her tracks.

At that last phrase Minami’s mouth closed and her expressions changed into a bored one. “So what if I was a paparazzo?” She crossed her arms and intruded onto the other’s personal space. “It’s not like I can make any money off the likes of you anyways. In fact I don’t have the slightest clue as to who you may even be at all?” Minami finished off the insult with a playful shrug.

What started out as excessive blinking soon turned into the narrowing of her eyes as the girl glared at Minami obviously very offended by the comment. ‘Hey, it was you who started the whole offensive fest.’ Minami inwardly replied smugly as she watched the taller girl silently turn her heal and walk towards the door.

The girl stood in front of the door twisting the knob for about a minute, before letting out a frustrated sigh and at this Minami also face palmed herself. ‘No way…’ She moved down her hand to cup at her cheek and knelt down.

“No. It can’t be… I have a photo shoot soon.” In a hurry the girl pounded on the door, but there was no response. She quickly checked her pockets, if Minami had to guess… It’d probably be for the girl’s phone.

Failing to find what she was looking for, the girl turned back around with her head hung low and shyly looked towards Minami’s direction. “Umm…May I borrow your cellphone?” She asked, unable to meet Minami’s gaze.

As if it was just on time to answer the girl’s request, a loud ringtone followed by the buzzing of a vibration was suddenly alarmed from within the other side of the door. The taller girl looked from Minami to the door questioningly and then finally back to Minami who held a failed cheesy smile.

“…Your phone?” She asked pointing back to the door with the signaling of her thumb and Minami merely gave a nod in return.

“Why didn’t you have it on you?” She questioned again.

“Didn’t you see that I was using it as a door stopper, before you came out here?” Minami simply replied unenthusiastically.

“Why would you use a cellphone as a doorstopper?” The girl standing had asked in disbelief.

“Doesn’t matter, you should have seen it when you came out.”

“I…” The girl began, before heaving a deep sigh and rather giving up than to explain herself.

They were already arguing about nonsense once again.

“Well, since we’re stuck up here together anyways…I’m Takahashi Minami.” The girl that was knelt down quickly stood up and extended a hand out towards the other.

“….Maeda Atsuko.” The taller girl replied, awkwardly receiving the handshake.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shinoda Mariko sat elegantly in a chair staring at a picture on her cellular phone, as a female makeup artist retouched on her makeup. After the woman made her leave, another had disturbed Mariko.

“Hello, long time no see!” A cheerful girl greeted Mariko as she came to sit in the neighboring seat.

“…Oshima-san?” Mariko asked with a smile gracing her lips.

“Yuko, its Yuko~ Ehe, I see you haven’t changed much Maririn.” Yuko said with a grin.

“Eh, is that so? I’d say you haven’t much either.”

“What were you looking at so deeply hmm?” The catlike girl peered over intrusively onto Mariko’s shoulder for a better view at the picture. In the middle of the photo was the beautiful Haruna Kojima and on each side of her was Takahashi Minami and then Mariko herself.

“Waaaaa~ is that my Nyan-nyan?!” Yuko chirped excitedly and Mariko gave a friendly nod in return.

“She looks even more beautiful than before, I miss our high school days.” The shorter girl confessed.

“So ‘your’ Nyan-nyan is more beautiful after all these years, but I’m still the same?” Mariko joked.

“Well that’s because Nyan-nyan is Nyan-nyan and Mariko is Mariko.” She gave a vague response.

“Aahh…” Mariko sounded as she held in her laughter.

“…So I guess, you guys really did get together after all.” Although there was a small smile on Yuko’s face as she says this, there was also a hint of sadness in her voice.

At the unexpected statement from the girl beside her, Mariko’s smile slowly faltered as well. She never gave an official reply, but then Yuko took it the way she had originally thought either way.

“You haven’t been seeing anyone?” Mariko asked again trying to dodge the earlier question.

“Nope, I’m currently busy traveling here and there with my packed schedule. You know how it is starting out in this career.” She replied gleefully with life seemingly flowing back into her eyes.

“How is it like working alongside Maeda-san for this project?” Mariko asked curious about the two rising co-stars.

“I’ll definitely outshine her with this one.” Yuko responded with a fist pump to the air.

“Ahh…” She merely gestured at the girl’s words.

“I’ll definitely outshine you one day too.” Yuko whispered confidently to the other girl and in return Mariko gave her a just as gutsy one back.

“Haruna doesn’t like overly ambitious people though.”

At Mariko’s words Yuko rose an eyebrow and was about to ask, but they were interrupted by an out of breath person.

“Shinoda-san, have you seen Maeda-san? The staffs as well as her manager are looking all over for her.” The guy wearing a dark collar shirt asked.

“No, I haven’t seen her.” Mariko answered.

“Is that so…Ahh, perhaps she’s still upset about what happened earlier and left for home.” He made an educated guess.

“Why, what happened earlier?” Yuko asked curiously.

“Well apparently there had been rumors of people badmouthing her again,” He shook his head. “The anti-fans are at it again it seems.” The guy finishes his sentence with a great sense of sympathy felt for the rising celebrity.

“I see…” Yuko replies also understanding of the situation.

“Well, I’ll go inform her manager. If that was the case then we’re willing to reschedule.” He was about to turn for the leave, but quickly turned back to face the two girls in suddenly remembering something. “Oh and Shinoda-san, that photographer you’ve recommended to the director has also seem to have taken off to somewhere.”

“Takahashi?” Mariko asked seemingly confused as to why Minami would ever do such a thing.

“Erm.” He nodded, before making his leave.

“I don’t think Maeda-san ever left the building.” Mariko stated to Yuko as she turned towards to the seat Atsuko had been previously seated in and her cell phone was still untouched in place of the countertop.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although there was very little light in the sky, somehow it had still managed to bother the tiresome girl who continued to stir around in her sleep. Minami who was just passing time by staring at Atsuko while the girl was bobbing her head back in forth in her sleep against the wall couldn’t help it, but to chuckle at how tired the girl must have been.

Earlier they had decided to keep their distance, after another lame argument had erupted. Minami had only asked why it was that she ‘Atsuko’ didn’t have her phone on herself, thinking nothing of it until more dumb stuff happened. So there they sat, on opposite ends once again.

Atsuko kept her head hung low to keep the light from intruding onto her face, but Minami could sense that by the way she’d stir every five minutes or so, it was most likely straining her neck.

Minami stood up from her seat and quietly walked on over to the sleeping beauty. She sat down beside the girl fumbling with her fingers for a bit, hesitating on if she should do anything. In the end she stuck out her index finger and poked at the girl’s cheek.

There was no reaction….

Minami then lifted up the taller girl’s head with a small push using the same finger to the forehead. This tiny action caused the girl to swoop her head up and then back down to the side, landing gently with a ‘plop’ against Minami’s shoulder.

Minami smiled and then looked away to her shoes tapping them together, because she was bored. There were no ulterior motives for her action. Simply put, she felt something there that made her want to help the girl out from the kindness of her own heart.

Everything seemed calmed until five minutes later, when Atsuko began to stir again. Minami glanced back at the girl who in her sleep had moved an arm up and placed an open palm over eyes. ‘The light must be really irritating her.’ Thought Minami as she looked up to the sky to find barely any light at all…

In fact with the heavy clouds suddenly coming in, it looked as though the sky would rain instead. Looking back towards the girl who was currently inhaling and exhaling peacefully, Minami found herself reexamining Atsuko’s charming features all over again.  Her eyes were softly closed with thick eyelashes resting cozily against her soft cheeks. The image alone to Minami undoubtedly created alluring shadows.

Slowly Minami carefully reached out for the sleeping girl’s palm and gently intertwined their fingers together for the couple of seconds that it had taken to bring back down her hand, before letting go and then with her other hand… Minami shielded Atsuko’s eyes for her.

Five minutes passed as she stayed in that position...

Ten more minutes passed as she remained in that position…

Minami’s eyebrow twitched at the cramp that she was starting to feel well up in her arm. ‘It-tatai’ she inwardly complained.

Then right about when she was about to give up she suddenly felt the sleeping girl lean in a bit too comfortably into her chest, snaking her slender arms around Minami’s torso into a possessive hug.

“Hyannn???!” She let out a surprised yelp at the other girl’s unexpected action.

‘Doki, doki, doki...’ Minami’s heart immediately sped up in a guilty flutter.

Then right in that exact moment…

“ACCHAANN??!!~” The door to the roof slammed open.

A/N:

OMG, thanks for all the support and comments they really motivated me to update soon! ‘XD I hope this first chapter wasn’t too much of a dragg…things are moving pretty slow at the moment, but of course it’s what I have to do to get enough background info in the story as soon as possible so you guys would be able to understand the story better. Hmm…And with some questions you guys might have. Takamina is a photographer, Haruna is currently a model (Although I haven’t mentioned much about it yet.), Mariko is a top celebrity, whilst Yuko and Atsuko are newer stars rising in popularity. There…Well I tried, sorry if there are confusion as to what is going on…My grammar is pretty bad. So my imagination is sadly limited. -__-" I have no confidence..just hopping it's not lame.

Personal replies:

Flean: As much as there will be ‘Doki, Doki’ moments in this fic, there will also most likely be lots of heart wrenching ones as well. Thanks for reading though ahah, I hope you enjoyed this chap!

Haruko: Ahah, yes Acchan indeed probably will hehe. Hmm about Kojiyuu, I guarantee you that pairing in this fic as well lol.

Wmatsui22: Yes, thankyou so much! I feel the power ahahah I hope you enjoyed this chap and thanks for reading. I will update soon ‘: )

Chibi-nyao-chan: Yes, everyone is in love with everyone! Their relationships get crazy. I can’t guarantee you any no heartbreaks, but I’ll tell you this will definitely have a happy Atsumina ending hehe. Thanks so much for commenting, I hope you like this chap!

Keisthename: Thanks, your compliments are most flattering! But yes…things get very complicated in this fic. There will definitely be a lot of lovey doveyness though, that’s the whole point hehe. Goodluck on your updates as well, I’m totally waiting! <3

Sese: Oh yeah, I like your DP Mariko ftw lol. Thank you so much for the support, my fic loves you too! I hope you enjoy this read ‘: )

Ichikawa: Your comment made me LOL. The emoticons are so cute and funny ahaha, the identity of that woman is a secret…for now could be anyone at this point. && I know all the characters in this fic will have to go through some sort of trauma, but poor Acchan the most..thankfully she will always have takamina though I’ll make sure of it so don’t worry! It will be a joyous ending. Thanks for the comment, enjoy this chap!

“ACCHAANN??!!~” The door to the roof slammed open.

An energetic Yuko jumped out into the open with her hand securely holding onto the door. The minute she saw the other two girls in such an intimate position, her expression quickly changed into a naughty presumptions one. Minami’s face immediately flushed redder than a tomato.

“Oh my~ Please excuse me for interrupting ahehe.” Yuko apologized with a cheesy grin, before darting back into the building.

“W-wait, don’t leave yet!” Minami exclaimed reaching out her hand towards the closing door.

“Yes?” Yuko peered her head back out

“It-it’s not what you think!” Minami tried to save.

“What do you mean?” Yuko tilted her head to the side, thought about it and then replied again. “Don’t worry. I won’t say a word about it to anyone.” She smiled reassuringly.

“No, that’s not it…Actually, we were locked out here.” Minami explained.

“Huh?” Yuko looked at the lock and then back to the girl with an ‘Ohhh’ as she understood with a nod.

“Yes, yes, now thank you so much. Could you please hold the door?” Minami replied happily.

“Sure!” Yuko quickly said, but then added something that instantly removed the other girl’s relieved expression. ‘You know…That still doesn’t clear up my understanding of your ‘current’ state though.” She gave Minami a wink and then came back out to spread open the door in a wider distance.

Minami sighed out loudly with her eyes closed, until she felt movement from the sleeping girl. “Mmm…” Atsuko shifted around lightly, removing an arm away from the stiffened girl to rub at her eyes.

“…Hmm?” The tired girl slowly opened her eyes.

In a mini panic Minami hurriedly stood up from her spot, causing the other girl to lose her balance.

“Ahh~ Itai…” Atsuko yelped out as she whined in pain. The injured girl sat herself back up and grabbed at her arm to look at her elbow that had been scratched upon contact with the concrete floor.

“Gomen!” Minami yelled out in a startle, causing the girl on the floor to look up at her in confusion.

“???” Atsuko blinked up at Minami.

“Are you okay?!” Minami worriedly came back down in front of Atsuko, and her eyes widened the second she was met with the sight of tiny blotches of blood. She quickly checked her pockets to find nothing, before realizing she had left her personal items downstairs and then suddenly turning around on the girl. “Get on.” She demanded.

“Ehh?!” Atsuko sounded still too dazed with sleep piled together by the speed at which the situation was taking to understand what was going on.

“Hurry!” Minami said motioning for the girl to get on her back.

Atsuko flinched at Minami’s persistence and hesitantly complied. The moment she reached a hand towards Minami the girl had taken it and wrapped it around her, before picking them both up and heading quickly down the stairs.

Yuko watched with wide eyes surprised, yet mildly entertained by the tiny girl’s action and strength. She was about to follow them, but was stopped when her foot accidentally skids a random cell phone laid out on the floor. She picked it up, clicked on the home button and was met with a locked screen with a familiar picture plastered on it.

“Ahh.” Yuko let out as she realized Minami was the same girl in the picture with Haruna in Mariko’s phone from earlier, for they both kept an identical photo. She pocketed the device, before heading down.

On the other hand Minami was busily rushing past the curious staff members to the private room she had been appointed to meet up with the studio director in the morning where her belongings had remained. Before they disappeared into the door though, Mariko who had just returned from finishing her portion of her own photo shoot looked up with a raised eyebrow and then shifted her gaze questioningly to Yuko who had casually walked by.

Atsuko sat in a chair and waited apprehensively as Minami searched through her bag. She then took out a small clear container and ripped open a small packet of rubbing alcohol pad. Minami looked up into Atsuko’s eyes, “Give me your arm.” She said and Atsuko reluctantly obliged. Gently she held onto the girl’s arm and began to carefully dab the pad against the wound.

Upon contact Atsuko winced and taking notice, Minami eased the sharp stinging by blowing a cool breeze over it. “Does it hurt?” Minami asked as she glanced up to meet Atsuko’s eyes and the girl silently shook her head no.

After the response Minami set the used pad down and applied a small amount of ointment onto the girl’s elbow, before sealing everything perfectly with a cute pink bandage. “There all done.” Minami said as she cleaned up and stood up to throw away the trash into the nearing bin.

“A-arigatou… but,” Atsuko gave her gratitude and lowered down her gaze before continuing. “You didn’t have to carry me all the way here just for that did you?” Her face turned bright red, unable to meet the shorter girl’s eyes.

Equally as embarrassed Minami scratched the back of her head before giving a wry reply, “Well, you’re right… It wasn’t as though you sprained your ankle or anything like that, but I guess it just pains me to see another person hurt regardless of whatever the situation may be.” She gave a light-hearted chuckle.

Hearing the sincerity from within Minami’s voice, Atsuko looked up and responded with a cheerful smile and for the first time it had seemed as if they’ve finally gotten along.

“Maeda-san, is everything alright? Everyone has been searching for you.” The director walked in with concern.

“Yes, everything is fine now. I’m very sorry for the trouble.” She stood up and bowed in an apology.

“You’ve missed your photo shoot.” He said.

“That is…Well, during my tour of the building we were both locked out outside on the roof.” Minami tried explaining.

“Takahashi-san, I’ve also been wondering where you’ve gone off to. If that’s so then I’d also like to apologize. You two must have devastated.”

“Ahh, no…Takahashi here took good care of me.” Atsuko confessed.

“Is that so?” The director walked towards Minami and shook her hand. “I’m very thankful for that, Maeda-san is a very important client to us. It wouldn’t have been a very good thing if anything worse were to have happened while she was still under our premises.” He patted her on the back before continuing. “If it isn’t a bad timing, I’d like to go ahead and proceed with our previous discussion from earlier this morning.” The man walked behind a desk in the room and sat himself down.

“It’s a great time actually.” Minami happily replied as she reached for her belongings and picked up her portfolio. She handed it to the man who reviewed it.

“Do you by any chance have any of your recent work on you?” He asked not looking up from where he looked.

“Actually, I took some photos this morning…” Minami switched on her camera and handed it over towards the older man.

“Hmm…” As he scanned through the images his eyebrows rose up in amusement. Gazing back up to look at Minami he called out to one of his employees working in the hallway. “Could you please get the head photographer in here right away?” He asked the worker.

It wasn’t long until a slender male walked in. “What is it sir?” He asked politely.

“Come take a look at these photos and tell me what you think.” The director directed and the other man quickly did as he was told.

“…Amazing, beautiful, absolutely wonderful, this is the work of masterpiece by a fine photographer in the making.” The head photographer flattered, “Wait.” He abruptly sounded as he looked up to glance at Atsuko. “Is this Maeda-san?” He asked switching his gaze to look at Minami, in which she nodded.

“Huh?” Atsuko furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

“This is…I was troubled by the fact that for her photo shoot today, perhaps our team wouldn’t have been able to pull off the look of her concept quite properly…but this…it fits just absolutely perfect!” The man beamed.

At his exaggerated statement, Minami breathed out a sigh of relief and then smiled proudly. “…And you took these without the use of any other special equipment?” He asked and she nodded. “Where were these taken?” The man asked again curiously.

“All of those photos were taken here on the roof of this building sir.” Minami responded.

“Ehh?? We had such a beautiful place here and I never knew about it?!” The head photographer was astounded with what he heard.

“Well, that concludes it. I’d very much like to have you work for us in the near future. As part of the welcome to our team, I’d like to have your pictures chosen for our contract with Maeda-san’s agency. Thank you for your cooperation.” The director as well as the head photographer shook hands with Minami.

On Mariko’s way out of the building after finishing up her schedule, she bumped into her best friend. “I heard the great news, congratulations Takamina.” Mariko said with a smile.

“If it wasn’t for you that is so, thank you.” Minami returned her gesture.

“Are you heading home now? …Haruna must be waiting.” Mariko said.

“As much as I want to see her face now, I can’t yet… Tomorrow is her birthday and I haven’t even finished buying everything I wanted to get for her. I’d probably be late until I get home.” Minami explained.

“Oh…What are you planning to do?” Mariko asked nervously, yet her friend failed to pick up the uneasiness in her voice.

“I’m going to ask that beautiful woman to marry me.” Minami gleefully revealed as she turned to look at her friend. “I’m so excited.” She chirped.

The smile on Mariko’s face quickly faltered and her friend took notice. “What’s wrong? Aren’t you happy for us?” Minami asked confused at the older woman’s reaction.

“Ahh…No, that’s not it. I just thought it was kind of sudden, caught me off guard. I’m more than happy for you two.” Mariko half-heartedly replied.

“I wonder if she’ll accept. …Nah, she’ll definitely accept it because she loves me of course!”

“Don’t worry I’m sure she would… Tell me the good news when it happens.”

“Of course I will, aside from Mii-chan and Haruna you’re my best friend after all.”

"Well, I’m pretty busy so I’ll talk to you whenever okay?" Mariko feeling slightly guilty tried to escape by leaving.

“Ah, wait a minute Mariko. Could you please drop my things off for me at my apartment? I don’t want my camera to get damaged or anything.” Minami handed over her possessions and Mariko took them in agreement, before waving goodbye then exiting the building.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atsuko stood on the platform near the curb of the building holding onto the umbrella her manager had provided for her as she watched the rain pour down. Waiting for her manager to get the van and pick her up she looked up towards the sky and shuddered at the thought of being stuck on the roof with the inconsistent pitter-pattering of the rain, but thankfully luck was on her side.

Then her mind drifted back towards whom she was stuck on the roof with and raising a hand to glide over her bandage, she gave a shy smile.

“Hii.”  The voice of an unexpected person startles her.

“Takahashi-san?” Like the falling rain Atsuko’s heart flutters.

“Are you waiting for your manager?” Minami’s voice sent an unfamiliar sensation down Atsuko’s spine, as her voice is warm in contrast to the rain.

Atsuko nodded, but when she noticed Minami’s drenched shoulder she slowly held the umbrella over the girl’s head.

“Ah…Ahah, I appreciate it but I’m already going on my way either way.” Minami replied.

“In the rain?” Atsuko asked sounding a little too concerned that the situation soon became awkward.

They stood silently by the curb until the sound of a van driving closely by hit Minami’s ears. Atsuko didn’t think it was going to do any harm, until the other girl caught her off guard by swiftly moving from the side to face her front and pulled her into a tight embrace.

‘Doki, doki, doki…’

Just seconds later, the careless vehicle ran over the road channel and splattered dirty gutter water right onto them…or more precisely the now very drenched Takahashi Minami.

Atsuko gasped.

Minami wrapped her arms protectively over Atsuko’s body, and gently the sound of just raindrops hitting the umbrella was all she could make out. ‘Pitter, patter, pitter, patter’ she felt Minami’s breath tickle against her collarbone, every exhale like breathtaking waves upon the ocean.

‘Pitter, patter, pitter…’ Atsuko stared into Minami’s comforting face…Perhaps it wasn’t the sound of the rain, but her trembling heart that was making such a commotion.

“Yaaada…I’m all wet.” Minami retracted her warmth from Atsuko, and felt around her dampened back with her hands.

“Gomen-nasai, gomen-nasai, gomen-nasai!” She frantically apologized, feeling embarrassed.

“It wasn’t your fault… Ahah, It was bound to happen anyways.” Minami complained then flashed Atsuko her pearl white teeth.

“But…” Atsuko felt at fault.

“Are you guys okay?” Atsuko’s manager parked his van as he came out to apologize.

“It’s fine.” Minami replied as she smiled at the guy and turned back to the other girl. “Well, have a safe trip.” The shorter girl walked out into the pouring rain and waved goodbye at the girl who just stood there staring at the leaving person.

“…You too.” She whispered in a daze.

As her manager opened up the door for her to go in, a person quickly interrupted her. “Acchan, hold on for a sec!” Atsuko turns to see Yuko making her way on over.

“Here, since you guys seem close you should return this back to its owner.” Yuko nudges a device into Atsuko’s hand and walks off with a smile.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kojima Haruna sat comfortably in her white shorts and tank top while waiting for her girlfriend to return home. With her phone in hand, she picked up a cushion and hugged at it. “Why isn’t she picking up her phone?” She complained with a pout.

‘Bzzzzzzzzzz.’ The doorbell buzzed.

With a smile Haruna quietly tiptoes into the hallway and unlocks the front door, before running back quickly to hide behind a wall in a fit of giggles.

‘Click’ she hears the door open and someone making their entrance.

The second the person’s back appears in front of her, she closed her eyes and moved in for the hug. “Takamina! <3” Haruna yells out. The person immediately moves a hand over her own, but with the unmatched height as well as difference in perfume. Haruna snapped her eyes open and backed away.

“That’s pretty dangerous you know.” Mariko warns as she turns around to face the other girl.

“What are you doing here?” Haruna asked slightly uncomfortable as she walked towards the living room to resettle herself down on the couch.

“Takamina asked me to drop her things off. She won’t be home until later.” Mariko explained as she walked on over and placed the items down.

“Oh.” That was all Haruna had replied.

“…Haruna I,” Mariko started her voice trembling.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minami ran hurriedly down the street with her hood up, but it did little to shield her from the harsh rain. With no umbrella and months of saving only barely enough money to buy everything that she needed to, it took her forever to reach the finest jewelry store in all of Tokyo.

“May I help you?” A nicely dressed man asked in a very rude tone.

Minami looked at the man and then panted out, “Yes, please… I would like to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend.” At her statement he looked disgusted.

“Maybe you’d find what you’re looking for at one of the other jewelry stores.” The man said snidely, having something obviously against her.

Now that pissed Takahashi Minami off and she glared at him. “Look here you, no other place can do so just let me come here to do what I came here to do and no one gets reported.” With that said, she strayed away from her usual polite ways.

Clearing his throat the man then complied reluctantly, not wanting to ruin the image of his store. After about thirty minutes and the man becoming seemingly more annoyed as Minami’s wet form dripped all over his floor, she finally narrowed it down to two rings.

One was golden and the other platinum with a small similarly cut diamond situated beautifully in the middle. They were both simple, yet elegant. After a minute or two of pondering she finally picked up the platinum one, “I’ll take this one.” The gold would have stood out too much against her girlfriend’s snow white skin.

The man then wrapped it up for her.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Haruna wiped at the tear that had escaped from her eye. “Stop it, whatever happened between us in the past has already ended a long time ago…I love Minami now.”

“That isn’t true!” Mariko’s voice rang out loudly. She knelt down beside the girl and grabbed onto her arms.

“I’m already happy, why can’t you just leave me alone?” With her voice shaking, Haruna turned away from Mariko.

Mariko tightened her hold on the other girl with tears also streaming down her face and pulled the girl down into a strong embrace. “…For me it had never once ended, never…and it’ll always be that way.” At this honest statement Mariko moved away to face the beauty before her.

With hearts pounding and breathing uncontrollable, Mariko moved her face in swiftly and captured Haruna’s moistened lips with her own. At first Haruna’s eyes widened in surprise, but as the kiss deepened her last bit of tears slid down as she squeezed her lids shut and wrapped her arms around Mariko’s neck. The woman moved her kisses down Haruna’s neck, and slowly their two bodies came down against the floor.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feeling her legs numb from the cold Minami walked up the stairs to the apartment she shared with her girlfriend. She wasn’t feeling too well, completely drenched in rain the only thing keeping her still going was the cozy thought of being in Haruna’s warm embrace. She stopped in front of the door and rang the doorbell, too tired to look for the key.

It took longer than usual, but eventually she was relieved to see the heartwarming face of her girlfriend. “Why are you drenched in rain?!” Haruna asked as she pulled the girl in and placed a hand on her cheek.

“You lost my umbrella remember?” Minami smiled as she placed her own hand over Haruna’s and looked softly into the other’s eyes. Haruna darted her gaze down and removed her warmth from the girl to grab at Minami’s arm and drag her into their bedroom.

Haruna sat her girlfriend down on their bed, then went into the closet and returned with a clean towel. She placed the towel over Minami’s head and patted away at the water droplets. With the towel still clearly covering her face Minami gave her girlfriend a short peck on the lips. The action made Haruna stop in her track.

Pulling off the towel Minami stared sweetly into her girlfriend’s eyes and spoke most arduously. “I love you Haruna.” She smiled softly.

Staring back into her girlfriend’s gentle eyes the tears threatened to fall, Haruna held back a sob as the guilt in her chest welled up. Before her girlfriend noticed the tears though, she quickly pulled Minami into a hug.
