Chapter 1
My name is Takahashi Minami and I’m an idol that has achieved her dream of performing in Tokyo Dome.
And yes, I’m the leader of AKB48, the biggest pop band in the entire world.
And just to recap, I had met with an unfortunate little accident at Tokyo Dome.
Well… it’s just a small accident of some lights dropping on me, actually Acchan first, but I just have to push her away. She’s the Ace, although graduating, she’s still the Ace and as Leader, it’s my job to take care of everybody right?
And NO… There’s no Astumina! I’m just saving her because it’s my job as the leader.
And the rest is just common sense.
Heavy lights dropped…
I pushed Atsuko away…
I take her place in the hospital…
But don’t you worry! I’m pretty sure I will be well soon! I’m not the Leader for nothing! No stage lights can kill me right?
But do pardon me; I think the anesthesia must be messing up with my brain…
Why?
I am now looking at myself being operated by a group of doctors and I’m talking to Mariko-sama, who has being kind enough to invade the privacy of my dream.
Of all people, why must it be Mariko-sama! WHY….

“…. You gotta be kidding me… Mariko-sama?”
“Ehem… “ coughed Mariko-sama in embarrassment.
“You know… everybody says death doesn’t have a sense of humor and there’s too much complains about me being scary and somber so I’m putting on a brand new image! And here you go! Death now comes in the image of the greatest band on Earth! Hahaha!” laughs the Mariko-sama.
Takamina involuntary gives herself a face palm upon hearing that.
Today’s so gonna be the worst day of her life…
Firstly, it’s the last day of Tokyo Dome, which means Acchan will graduate really soon.
Secondly, faulty rigging of the stage lights, causing one of the parcans to drop during the encore, marred the almost perfect concert and injured her in the process.
Thirdly, she was rudely awaken in her sleep to witness her own operation by Mariko-sama, who calls herself Death…
‘Chotte Matte… if you are Death… then…then… I’m dead… am I?” asked Takamina in realization as tears starts to well upon her eyes.
‘Ah! We have a smart one here! Pretty much soon… You had seen your body. It’s a mangled mess. But don’t worry too much; the mortician will give you your best look during your funeral…’ laughed the Mariko-sama as she extended her hand towards Takamina.
‘It’s time. The doctors won’t be able to stop your internal bleeding. Witnessing your own death is a painful thing. Let’s avoid that shall we?’
‘But… I don’t want to go…”
Despite her protest, Death isn’t one that will take No for an answer. With a quick drag of the collar, Death pulls Takamina away, vanishing through the walls into the waiting room.
“There you go… Out of Sight… Out of mind…”

A loud beep emerged from the operation theater as the red light indicating an operation blinks out.
“Is it the end of the operation…” asked various members in unison.
“Takamina will be ok… right?”
“Baka! Miichan! Takamina will be ok! She’s like a cockroach! She won’t die that easily…” replied Maeda Atsuko, rapping her friend on the forehead.
However, she couldn’t remove the feeling of uneasiness that is growing inside her.
‘I should be the one that’s inside… Not you… Please be safe… And I haven’t…’ the feelings inside threatens to break the dam that is holding back her emotions as her eyes start to moisten.
At this moment, the doors swung open, as the medical team cladded in protective greens walked out, breaking the serenity of the waiting room.
“Could we speak to the guardian of Takahashi Minashi-san please?”
“Yes… That will be me… Doctor, how is she? She’s a tough one isn’t she?” replied Togasaki-san.
“I’m sorry but we did our best. The patient had fought hard together with us but her injuries were too extensive. Please prepare to make the arrangements…”

Time seemed to freeze in the room for the members upon hearing the doctor’s announcement.
Soon after, hot tears and sounds of wailing emerged from each of them as they come into realization that they will never see their beloved leader again.
As they turned towards each other for comfort and solace, one member started to lose control of her emotions as her world rapidly collapse…
“No! I refused to believe this! You promised me! You will be fine! What happened to our promise… What happened… Why Takamina! Why! It should be me inside! Not you…” sobbed Maeda Atsuko as she fall down to her knees, her legs giving way due to the shock.
The breakdown of their ace became the catalyst for more emotional breakdowns as they all realized it’s the end of the journey for their only leader.
“Goodbye… Takamina….”

“No… This couldn’t be happening…” cried out Takamina as she witnessed the scene of her members breaking down before her.
“Mina-san! I’m here… Can’t you see me? You have to stop this! There’s still Acchan’s graduation show tomorrow! You can’t just all just break down like this…” screamed out Takamina loudly as she tried to encourage her members.
“Oh give up… You know they can’t hear you…” advised Death to no avail as Takamina continued to play the role of the leader, even when she can’t be seen and heard by her members.
But Takamina soon realized the futility of her situation. She can’t be seen. She can’t be heard.
“Sou… Sou… Sou!!! This can’t be happening!!!”
“But it is… Time to say your goodbyes. Another world is awaiting…”
“Must I…”
“Unfortunately so… With every beginning, there’s an end… With every life, there’s a death… it’s the rule…”
“But I still have so much that I haven’t done… So much I haven’t say…” replied Takamina as she approached the sunken figure of Acchan, trying to comfort her with words and touches that she can’t hear and feel.
“You like her… don’t you?”
“Me? Her? Impossible… We are girls… And I hate Ls…” replied Takamina, flabbergasted.
“Oh don’t be shy… You can’t cheat Death. I can see deep into your heart. There’s nothing to be shy of… Your emotions… She won’t know anyway… Not anymore…”
“Baka… Acchan… I’m sorry…I’m sorry I took so long… I… Aishiteru…”
“That wasn’t so hard isn’t it? Coming to terms with your feelings. What if I tell you there’s a chance to tell her what you feel? What if there’s a 2nd chance?”
“Nani? A 2nd chance? Really? How! Where! What!”
“Only today! Death is feeling generous! Touched by the feelings of 48 hearts! Death shall give you a 2nd chance! But that’s only if you can win me at a contest!”
“A contest?!? How…”
“That’s easy… If I’m Mariko-sama… then I’m sure you know what it’s gonna be…”
“No way… You gotta be kidding me… Don’t tell me it’s…”
“YES! You’re right! The mighty Mariko-sama shall decide it all on a game of JAN KEN PON!”
