Smoke, Alcohol, Lipstick & Leather Jackets
Takahashi Minami wasn't sure why she always fell for the bad ones but there was just something about leather jackets that made her heart skip a beat and pound a little faster. “Bad boys and girls,” Miichan said when she voiced her thoughts aloud, “you like them a bit... unpolished.”
Minami denied that claim, frowning she said, “no I don’t.”
At least she didn’t think so.

Maeda Atsuko didn’t really like walking on the sidewalk, she’d rather amble on the grass lawns or the black asphalt as she enjoyed the rush of cars speeding by. She returned the smirk her friends were giving her as they decided to visit the bar they always went to. The drinks were decent and the price was right - plus the bartender was kinda cute and it was always a riot when she’d hit on Tomochin.
Atsuko grinned as Sae held the door open for them.
“Get in there already, I’m getting thirsty.”
Atsuko raised an eyebrow and rolled her eyes. She sauntered in slowly, earning a playful punch from Mariko, who was behind her, on the shoulder before she moved out of the way, dusting off her favorite jacket.
Her favorite leather jacket.

“You’ve been coming here quite often lately, you new?” The friendly, warm voice of the bartender reached Minami’s ears over the loud music.
“Not really.” Minami said before pausing at the bartender’s look. “Well, kinda, yes. I actually live a few blocks from here but have never came in. My friend brought me here a while back and I’ve just been here I guess.”
The bartender nodded, wiping off a glass before reaching for the ingredients to make another order.
“I’m Tomomi, first drink’s on the house,” Tomomi winked before setting the drink on the table. “But for you...you can call me Tomomchin.” Tomomi added before Minami could say anything else.
Minami oblivious to the flirting sipped the drink, surprised at its taste, a bit strong but sweet.
“An Incredible Hulk,” Tomomi said, fixated on making another order. “I wish I could keep you company but...business is booming right now. I hope you enjoy your stay here.”
Minami smiled tiredly, weary from a day of work.
Somehow, the dim lights and subtle scent of cigarettes, alcohol and sultry perfume that seemed to linger in the place was comforting.
If only she could find someone who could make her feel the same.
---
“Hey Chiyuu, Tomomi’s on shift today.” Sae said slyly nudging the girl in the ribs.
Atsuko laughed along with the others when the girl threw Sae a dirty look. The girl didn’t look like it, but she could pack quite a punch. Atsuko would know, she witnessed how Chiyuu knocked the could-have-been-mugger out with a single blow when they spotting him trying to grab an old ladys purse.
“I’m going to get some drinks, what do you guys want?” Atsuko asked, standing up and looking at her group of friends.
Collecting the orders, Atsuko walked over to a bar and waited for the drinks.
Seeing how Tomochin was occupied by another large order before hers, she took a seat at the bar. Bored, she looked around the place with disinterest until something caught her eye.
The girl sitting next to her.
---
Minami was finishing the last of her drink when she felt someone looking at her. Glancing over to her left, she spotted a girl with shoulder length, dark hair dressed in a leather jacket, skinny jeans, and combat boots. Minami thought she looked like a delinquent.
She certainly smiled like one.
Minami could feel her heart skip a beat and pound a little faster.
---
“Hi, I’m Atsuko” She offered a hand with a smile.
The girl hesitated before taking her hand.
“I’m...Minami, nice to meet you.”
Atuko’s smile grew as she saw the other girl smile shyly.
“How about I buy you a drink after I get my friends’ orders to them.”
Minami looked surprised but Atsuko just smiled reassuringly, “They’ll keep themselves company.”
But the strangest thing happened that Atsuko didn’t expect to happen. She felt her own heart skip a beat when Minami smiled back at her.
“Only if you let me buy you one as well.”
---
“So I guess you really have a thing with leather jackets.” Miichan grinned as she sat at the bar with Atsuko after witnessing the meeting they both just had.
Minami usually visited the bar with Miichan on Tuesday and Saturdays. “BFF nights” as Miichan called it, girl bonding time.
“I go to the bathroom and this happens.” Miichan said with a smile, moving away in a futile attempt to dodge Minami’s well-aimed smack at her forehead.
“It’s not like that!” Minami said with a blush. She could feel her cheeks heat up as she turned and found Atsuko looking at her from the table she sat at with her friends. “It’s not just the leather jacket...”
“Ah, and so the midget says more than she should have.” Miichan’s grin grew wider as she rubbed her forehead. “Did she ask you out yet.”
Minami’s flush grew redder.
“...”
“I’m going to take that as a yes.”
---
Minami helped Atsuko out of the car and walked her to the door.
She stood on the bottom step as Atsuko slowly walked up to her door.
The smaller girl watched as Atsuko opened her door and ever so slowly turned around.
Minami bit her lip seeing where this was going and stepped down to the second step.
Atsuko smirked as she cautiously made her way down to Minami, taking hold of the older girl’s hand.
“I had fun tonight. Lets do this again.”
---
Minami felt soft lips press against hers. Blinking from initial shock, she soon found her eyes falling shut as she enjoyed the sensation of the kiss from the girl she just met.
Atsuko’s kiss.
It tasted much like what she had imagined, smoke, alcohol, and lipstick.
But what made her lips curl in a smile wasn’t that Atsuko reminded her so much of the comfort of the bar.
It was that the other girl’s lips made her heart flutter and fingertips tingle. It made her tip toe and mind go blank.
It made her feel like she was falling in love.
---
“Happy birthday.” Atsuko said, holding out a neatly wrapped gift box.
“How did you know it is my birthday?” Minami asked. The only person she ‘invited’ was Miichan who was now missing after being dragged away by that Mariko-sama.
“I facebook-ed you.” She replied nonchalantly.
Minami looked at her incredulously, speechless.
“I’m just kidding,” the taller girl said with her usual smile, “Miichan told me when I bumped into her at the corner store.”
Minami looked at her skeptically but accepted the gift nonetheless, setting it down on the bar counter before opening it.
“A leather jacket?” Minami carefully lifted the heavy article of clothing out of the box. She inspected the jacket, her back facing Atsuko.
Atsuko grinned as she walked up to Minami and hugged her from behind. Smirking when she felt the other girl tense up, she leaned in to press her lips onto Minami’s ear and whispered playfully.
“You’re not the
only one with a thing for girls in leather jackets.”
