Love, this four-letter word is indeed, a complicated thing. How it could bring someone’s emotions sky-high one moment, and down right into the pits the next.
How the past week had probably been Yuko’s happiest times, instantly changed into one that would remind her for the rest of her life, how she could no longer enjoy. How the past week had probably been Haruna’s happiest times since the break-up, could instantly changed into one that she could never visit again.
And how…
“Acchan, let go of me,” Takamina said softly yet firmly. The dark orbs oozed an unknown source of sadness as she struggled to break off the grip on her wrist. The younger girl shook her head and tightened her hold on Takamina, afraid that the moment her hand lightened its grasp, the most important person in her life would be gone. “Why? Why do you still want to hold onto us…or me, when you’ve already cheated?”
/Flashback/
The cool morning breeze hit Yuko’s bare shoulders and the girl stirred slightly in her sleep before a thought rudely interrupted the sweet dream that she was relishing. Opening her eyes slightly, she hoped and wished that what she thought she dreamt was a dream; the naked back that greeted her sight however, threw the hope out of the window.
Clutching her head in agony, Yuko turned her back to the sleeping girl and got out of the bed as gently as she could. The trail of clothes that ended at the foot of the bed traced to the living room as vivid images of what happened the previous night hit the girl. “How am I going to explain to Takamina? Or even before that, how am I going to face Acchan? Fuck, why did we drink so much last night?” Yuko mumbled as she stumbled her way out of the bedroom, grabbing the pieces of clothing that are hers from the floor.
Stealing a glance at the wall clock, Yuko only had approximately 15 minutes to get to the café before Tomochin blasted her phone as usual. The frustrated girl changed into her clothes from the night before and made her way out of the apartment. “I’ll deal with this during break,” she muttered to herself, closing the door quietly behind her.
..
Acchan didn’t know; she didn’t have any answers for Takamina, but what she knew was that she couldn’t live without the other girl. “Please…” she pleaded, without knowing what she was pleading. Perhaps it was pleading Takamina to not leave, pleading Takamina to give her another chance, pleading time to turn back and her to not have made the mistake that she wasn’t supposed to, pleading that everything wrong could be made right.
/Flashback/
The soft click of the door woke Acchan up; the light breeze that entered through the open window made the sleepy girl pulled the blankets higher up, only to be taken aback by the soft material caressing her bare skin. Closing her eyes, the shocked girl willed what she suspected wasn’t true; the messy bed-sheet beside her, the mildly warm bed beside her, the clothes that were hers shed on the floor…
Tears rolled down her eyes as she sat up and drew her knees up against her chest. The night before had been a blur; she remembered feeling very lonely and insecure after a call from Takamina. She knows she shouldn’t, but she heard Haruna’s voice faintly in the call and Takamina was supposed to be in her room. And the other girl had never once mentioned to her that Haruna was accompanying her on the trip…
Everything else seemed to be a hazy impression; getting slightly drunk after a few drinks and faintly remembering Yuko’s chiding voices at the back of her head. She couldn’t even remember how she got home; closing her eyes however, vivid images of her and Yuko from the previous night flooded her senses. Frantic actions – hands roaming around each others’ bodies while engaging in a fierce tongue battle, breaking the kiss for a split second to remove the offending blouse from her body and the light nips that the shorter girl left as she traced down Acchan’s body…
..
“But…you lied.”
As the door slammed behind Takamina, her heart seemed to have crashed into a million pieces or more as well.
/Flashback/
“What are you doing with my shirt?” A voice cut through the silence in the café and Yuko turned around to come face to face with an eerily calm-looking Takamina. Tomochin slipped her hand into Tomomi’s and the pair backed away quietly from the other two; it’s best to stay out of it, Tomochin thought, and she didn’t want Tomomi to get involved, knowing that she would speak up for her cousin even though Yuko was in the wrong.
Yuko bit her bottom lip as Takamina came closer to her, backing away until her back hit the bar table. “Takamina…I-” before Yuko could speak anything more, the shorter girl gripped Yuko’s collar and pulled her closer to herself.
Takamina was seething, clutching her other hand into a fist, “You what? You slept with my girlfriend? You fell in love with my girlfriend? The fuck has you done to my girl?” Hearing no reply, the younger girl got even more incensed. Raising her fist, a punch was thrown right onto Yuko’s cheeks, “Answer me,” the words were forced out from between Takamina’s teeth. “Answer me!!”
What Takamina needed wasn’t an answer; she knew it herself, she knew what happened just by the look on Yuko’s face. They had been friends for so long that it is impossible for the older girl to lie to her successfully, but at this moment, Takamina wished Yuko could. She wished that Yuko would deny her accusations, would be offended at the allegations and hit her back, would…
Would do anything just to prove that what Takamina had claimed wasn’t true.
But when Yuko could hardly come up with any feisty comebacks that she was so capable of, Takamina knew that what she didn’t want to face, was all truth. A tear rolled down her cheeks, and soon another followed…
“I’m sorry…I’m sorry Takamina. I’m so-” The café door slammed in mid-sentence.
“-Rry.”
..
“You knew that Yuko likes Acchan, right?”
“…”
“Haruna…”
“…yes.”
“…”
“Who was she trying to kid? The look in her eyes when she cast her gaze on Acchan, the gentleness that crept through her actions whenever Acchan’s near her, the concerned looks that she threw in her direction…I’m surprised it took you this long to realize it though.”
“Was that why you broke up with her?”
The pair sat in silent for the next few moments or so before Haruna looked up. “Yes,” she whispered, a look of uncertainty painted her features, “And no.”
A small sad smile tugged the sides of Takamina lips as she stood up, “Thank you,” she mumbled, and she left.
..
Acchan curled up at one corner of her room, eyes swollen and nose red from the crying. She didn’t know how long time had passed; she didn’t know anything else from the moment Takamina stepped out of the door. And heck, she didn’t know what she had done over the past week in fact.
But she knew that she lost the only person that she loved the moment she overstepped the friendly boundaries with Yuko while Takamina wasn’t around. And the worst thing of it all was…she didn’t even know why she did it.
“Minami…”
A soft raspy call escaped Acchan’s lips as she lowered her head onto her knees, drawn up against her chest, and fresh tears rolled down her face once again…
..
“Tomochin, I’m scared,” Tomomi mumbled, pulling Tomochin’s arms tighter around herself.
Nobody said love would be easy, and if that wasn’t difficult enough, all the feelings and the persons involved in a relationship just made it even more complicated. The older girl rested her head on her girlfriend’s shoulders and a sigh escaped her lips. “Don’t be. It’ll work out for them,” she consoled, but at the same time, knowing that it was just a lie that she said to comfort the other girl…and herself.
“I’ll never let us be like them,” she promised.
-END-
Author Note:
11,000 words later, I ended this chaptered fic finally!
The ending might be mehhhh for some, if not many, and it's a far difference from what I planned when I started it out, but I guess that's how I want it to end afterall. There are some unanswered questions that you probably have but we'll just leave them unanswered for now. Who knows, there might be a day when I'll write a side-story, a continuation or a drabble that answer them. Though I won't want you to pin any hopes on it. LOL.
I'm sorry but not sorry about breaking up Atsumina and Kojiyuu. I love these pairings but I guess we need a shake-up around here some times. I don't read much but I don't see a lot of fics that break them up as well. I didn't break them up for the sake of breaking them up (I remember I had a comment/ask saying that before) but rather, I had planned for the fic to go that way -- testing love, giving in to temptations, resisting temptations, lying to oneself, how someone else probably know you better than you know yourself, and finally, how things don't always go your way.
I'm sorry however, to Kojitaka/Atsuyuu shippers. I wanted it to go that way, but halfway I decided not to. At least I wanted to keep Kojitaka until when I wrote the last chapter. I gave up on giving Atsuyuu an ending together like halfway through but as I was finishing up the fic, I decide to not let Kojitaka get together too because I don't think Takamina, with her character (in the fic and not), would ever fall out of love with Acchan anyway. Or rather, at least not anytime so soon.
I hope whoever that followed this few chapters had fun reading it because it sure was fun to write and read comments about it.
